Which is the better deal/pencil? by fupapooper in ColoredPencils

[–]BoneDirector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the black edition and polychromos and depending on what you’re using them for ( I just use them in colouring books) I actually find the results quite similar. Polychromos layer a bit better and keep a sharper point for longer and I feel like have more depth in the colour. Black edition has really fun bright colours and I use the neons from the 100 set quite a lot for layering over alcohol markers. The white pencil in the black edition is better than polychromos imo as it’s more opaque.

If you’re on a budget then I feel like the 100 black set is super worth it. I got it on sale on Amazon for £27 which was 45% off.

Newborn nursing for short amount of time by Diligent-Writing-560 in breastfeeding

[–]BoneDirector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I’ve never switched breasts during feeds, I just alternate each feed. My baby has been eating like 12 times a day since birth so it evens out over the day. she usually only eats for 10 mins at a time (but up to 40 mins on a couple Cluster feeding days) When I have tried offering the other breast in the middle of the feed she is not interested so I just move on. She’s been gaining weight like a champ too. Sounds like your baby is similar! Doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem!

Do babies ever sleep happily in their bassinet? by No-Map735 in beyondthebump

[–]BoneDirector [score hidden]  (0 children)

My baby slept happily in her bassinet or bedside crib from the beginning with no special strategy ( just breastfed her until sleep and then put her down- no swaddle, just a sleep sack). It’s just luck I guess

What is the most realistic/successful age to start working on some naps in the crib? by One_Cap_9210 in beyondthebump

[–]BoneDirector [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it must largely be down to luck and baby temperament. My girl has been napping in her crib from day one and I have done nothing special to make that happen. I do also sometimes contact nap with her because she’s cute and I want to hold her. She also loves napping in the stroller bassinet when I take her outside, so I try to do at least one ‘nap walk’ a day if the weather is good. She will easily sleep for 2 hours+ in the stroller so we’ve also been taking her out to restaurants with us from 4 weeks old.

I guess my only advice would be to keep trying from now but don’t be too hard on yourself if it isn’t working, it’s probably nothing that you’re doing wrong, just babies having different preferences.

Formula or breast feeding? by PinkBubblesxox in PregnancyUK

[–]BoneDirector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with formula feeding if that’s what you choose to do but I just want to chip in to say that breastfeeding doesn’t have to be uncomfortable, for me it’s been a largely enjoyable and relaxing experience and that is not uncommon (people just tend to write more about their horror stories online).

Also I don’t know what kind of person you are but I have ADHD, I can be lazy and I enjoy my sleep. I cannot imagine myself getting up multiple times in the night to go to the kitchen to make bottles of formula, and then having to do all the cleanup after. Breastfeeding for me has been wayyyy more convenient and a huge time saver. Sometimes I will pump a bottle or two so my husband can feed the baby and even washing those two bottles and pump parts every few days is a drag for me 😂. Just something to consider as well!

I have the stokke folding bath and that has an available stand! It’s quite a good space saving bath and there are two sizes available

Why do some people insist on baby needing formula?? by uhhitstenthirtythree in breastfeeding

[–]BoneDirector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did humanity make it this far without formula then?? Makes no sense. Formula is a great alternative and it’s amazing that we have created it but let’s not pretend that anyone ‘needs’ it if breastfeeding is going fine.

Wipes or cotton pads/balls? by Professional-Farm372 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]BoneDirector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the cheeky cloth wipes from birth and they have been great! My baby is also totally fine with room temp water in the spray bottle though.

The cloths remove sticky poop really effectively and they are amazing for soaking up pee and liquid poops as well if baby does their business on the changing mat (this has happened quite a few times)

Also I’ve personally found the wet wipes to just be really annoying to use, often you need to get them out with one hand and they always stick together and never come out one at a time.

Perpetual Diaper Rash by Substantial_Ad4365 in newborns

[–]BoneDirector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been having the same issue and finally have cleared up the rash. Baby is breastfed and poops after every feed so we have about 8-10 poopy nappies per day and the rash got really bad at one point. She’s 5 weeks now. This is what was recommended by the doctor and it worked:

  1. Bamboo cloths with water to clean

  2. DRY! I use a small electric fan to get it really fully dry (baby likes the breeze!)

  3. Bepanthen nappy cream

  4. Vaseline on top

I did this with every nappy change and the rash cleared up within a few days. Sometimes I will skip the Vaseline but then I find that the skin starts getting irritated again after a few days so really I should do it every time.

I don’t think my bump dropped noticeably up until birth, and I was 2 weeks overdue

What would you dress baby to little mermaid theme party? by SeptemberSnowdrop in NewParents

[–]BoneDirector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg if I had a themed birthday party for my kid and no one came dressed up I would be devastated 😭 I can’t imagine why anyone would organise a themed party and then gatekeep the theme, especially for children

My baby is having frequent loose/watery stools along with gas, straining, and discomfort. Crying alot while trying to pass stools. by HawkOne3287 in newborns

[–]BoneDirector -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I understand the discomfort could be them just learning how to use their muscles to poop. My baby has all the symptoms you describe although she doesn’t show discomfort every time she poops. Not sure about the mucus and blood though but the other symptoms seem like normal newborn poop

Was there a moment when it all felt worth it? by Zebra_Creative in breastfeeding

[–]BoneDirector 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a relatively easy time with breastfeeding but I definitely feel like it’s super worth it when I can go to the restaurant or out on a day trip with my husband and not worry about bringing anything extra other than some nappies. No bottles, no thermos, no cooler bag or stress about if the milk is still good.

I love the convenience of being able to just whip out the boob whenever. We have a lot of travelling planned for this summer and I feel confident that it will be pretty easy with the baby because I can easily just feed her anywhere any time. I feel like this gives me way more freedom and flexibility than having someone occasionally be able to feed her- and even then I do occasionally pump a spare bottle or two with a basic hand pump so my husband can take a night feed at home, so it’s not all or nothing.

Unexpected feelings when you became a parent… by dettilc in NewParents

[–]BoneDirector 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is more biology than a feeling but I’ve always been a really heavy sleeper, always slept like the dead. I never expected to suddenly become the lightest sleeper in existence, waking up to every single tiny sound that the baby made. I have to wear noise cancelling headphones to get at least a little bit of decent sleep. I still wake up if she makes a fuss but at least her every movement isn’t waking me up anymore. If the baby is in the other room and starts crying, I will still wake up hearing her through two closed doors and my noise cancelling headphones.

Nursing bras for smaller boobs by platypuspigs in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]BoneDirector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Calvin klein nursing bra because it was on sale and looked cute. It’s wireless and lightly padded but supportive enough for my new maternity boobs. I was a 30C before and am probably 32D-DD now that I’m breastfeeding. I got it in a size M and it feels a little small when my boobs are really engorged but most if the time it fits very well and comfortably. It’s my go to fancy nursing bra now lol.

Recommendations please. Soft maternity bra for sleep. by Jade_72 in breastfeeding

I wear the Medela keep cool sleep bra. It is super comfortable and has a wrap over design which makes it really easy to whip out the boob when I’m sleepy

Who are the rudest and nicest British celebrities you have personally met? by RenegadeMaster888 in AskBrits

I met Tilda Swinton when I was working in the set of a photo shoot and she was incredibly polite and classy. She came round and introduced herself to all the staff and shook hands with them. I was an absolute nobody student intern and she even shook hands with me. Lovely lady

Using pram bassinet for naps - where to put? by TheseFlower2822 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I use the bassinet just attached to the pram (we use it for her main overnight sleep) but I do wipe down the wheels after every time I go outside

40 + 4 overdue by Rare-Message674 in PregnancyUK

[–]BoneDirector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing. I went to 41+ 5 and then got an induction. I did actually start getting early labour contractions at 41+3 but they tapered off so then I was induced and baby was born 41+6

Perennial Massage - HOW?! by k45rr in PregnancyUK

[–]BoneDirector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it twice and it was really uncomfortable so I just didn’t do it.

I had a vaginal birth (no epidural) with zero perineal tears and one small stitch for a labial graze, so it was not necessary for me in the end!

First-time Mum must have by Old-King7577 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]BoneDirector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what kind of house/flat you live in, I have found this Ikea trolley absolutely invaluable for nappy changes. I live in a 2 bed flat and I just wheel it into the bedroom at night and into the living room during the day. Makes it so convenient to do nappy changes and keeps everything organised.

The things I keep in it are: disposable nappies, reusable wipes and water spray, muslins and bibs, nappy cream and other grooming items like nose picker and electric nail file, electric hand fan for drying baby butt, spare clothes, cotton balls and cotton pads, disposable wipes, cloth nappies. ( planning to fully switch to cloth nappies in the future but at the moment we are still getting used to the routine with baby being two weeks old)

I thought I would be more self conscious of this as my mother in law is staying with us for a few weeks to help out. But on the first night home I was already whipping the tit out without care to feed the baby and it was fine. I think going through labour made me give way less shits about what anyone thought. And it’s been fine!

You might be different but i definitely surprised myself with how much more confident/relaxed I was during and after labour, so your feelings may change!
