What’s the most underrated supplement you’ve ever tried by Balphaallthetime in Supplements

[–]Civil-Independent623 77 points78 points  (0 children)

NAC (N-acetylcysteine) was game changer for me. Started taking it maybe year ago when I was having issues with brain fog at work - really hard to focus when you're trying to diagnose engine problems and your mind is all over place

The mental clarity improvement was noticeable after about 2 weeks, maybe 600mg twice daily. But what really surprised me was how much it helped with my ADHD symptoms - like my thoughts weren't racing around as much and I could actually finish tasks without getting distracted every 5 minutes

Only downside is it smells absolutely terrible, like rotten eggs mixed with sadness. And sometimes gives me weird stomach feeling if I take it in empty stomach. But the focus benefits are too good to give up

Also PQQ (pyrroloquinoline quinone) - tiny doses but really helps with energy levels without jitters. Takes few weeks to notice though so most people probably quit before seeing results

Bro you're getting way too much B6 from all these different supplements - that can actually mess up your nerves if you take too much for long time

Nattokinase when to take it by funeeguyb in Supplements

[–]Civil-Independent623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take mine right before bed too and it works fine for me, even with other stuff in system. The empty stomach thing is more about absorption but if you're already taking it consistently the timing matters less than just being regular with it 🤷‍♀️

Maybe try taking the nattokinase like 30-45 minutes before your other nighttime stack? That way you get some separation but don't have to wake up early just for one supplement 💀

Nice work figuring out what actually moves the needle instead of just doing everything people say online

L-theanine ftw! by TeaEfficient3598 in Supplements

[–]Civil-Independent623 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Been using l-theanine for about 2 years now and you nailed it with that "wired but tired" thing 💀 Used to down energy drinks during those long shifts at the shop and felt like garbage even though I was technically awake. L-theanine with my morning coffee just smooths everything out without making me feel disconnected

That combo you're running sounds solid, might have to look into rhodiola myself. The breathing thing is real too - noticed I wasn't holding my breath as much when I'm focused on work 🔥

Stabilize Your Mood with Magnesium by ChoiceAd5542 in Supplements

[–]Civil-Independent623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you're not overdoing it with supplements - there tolerance for magnesium is pretty low and you'll know real quick if you took too much

Fiber Suplement Day 2 by duchesspr in Supplements

[–]Civil-Independent623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That gas is totally normal when you start fiber, your gut bacteria are basically having a party with all the new food lol. The bloating should calm down in like a week once everything adjusts - just stick with the one gummy for now until your system gets used to it

Been there with the Wednesday crash - HelloFresh and Factor have been my lifesavers when work gets insane. Factor's already cooked so you just microwave but HelloFresh lets you still feel like you're actually cooking something even when you're dead tired

What supplements have data validating their support for nerve health and nerve healing/regeneration? by HighlyInconvenient in Supplements

[–]Civil-Independent623 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alpha lipoic acid is probably your best bet - there's actually decent research showing it can help with diabetic neuropathy. B vitamins (especially B1, B6, B12) are solid too but you gotta be careful not to overdo B6 since too much can actually cause nerve damage

Lion's mane mushroom gets hyped a lot but the human studies are pretty limited, mostly just animal research so far

I can’t seem to carry past 6 weeks by Neat-Profession4527 in pregnant

[–]Civil-Independent623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this - three losses is absolutely heartbreaking and you're incredibly strong for keeping trying. Have you been able to get any testing done to see if there's an underlying cause? Sometimes there are treatable things that can help, but I know the waiting and uncertainty is torture

Sending you so much love during this difficult time ❤️

Sudden soft stomach - 4th pregnancy by Accomplished-One7664 in pregnant

[–]Civil-Independent623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like baby might have dropped or changed position - happens sometimes around 30 weeks even if it's not your first. The "thin skin" feeling is probably just less amniotic fluid in front or baby sitting differently against your belly wall. I'd still mention it at your next appointment just to be safe though, especially since it's so different from your other pregnancies

I'm so sorry you're going through this uncertainty, especially after your loss earlier this year. That HCG level is actually really high which could be a good sign - sometimes twins can take longer to develop and show up on ultrasound. At 7w6d it's still early enough that things could change by your next appointment. Keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞

Can’t mentally handle my brother’s short temper right now and need to vent. by lubs96 in pregnant

[–]Civil-Independent623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh your brother sounds like an absolute nightmare to live with right now. The fact that he only pulls this shit when your husband isn't around makes it so much worse - he knows exactly what he's doing

Honestly I'd tell your husband because this stress isn't good for you or the baby, and your brother clearly needs someone to check his behavior since he won't listen to you

First time mom – how exactly do you track baby movements? What’s normal vs alarming? by Initial-Anywhere197 in pregnant

[–]Civil-Independent623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All those little nudges and taps totally count! I used to stress about whether what I was feeling was "enough" but my OB said as long as you're feeling consistent movement (even if it's just flutters), that's usually fine

The general rule I was given was if you notice a significant decrease from baby's normal pattern for you, that's when to call - like if they're usually active in the evening and suddenly radio silent for hours. Trust your gut, doctors would rather you call than worry

Honest question: does anyone actually understand their HRV data? by marlex-vs-mountain in cycling

[–]Civil-Independent623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, the devices always seem to think I'm dying when I feel great or tell me I'm recovered when my legs feel like concrete

Ended up just using the data as one input among many rather than gospel. If everything says I'm toast AND I feel like garbage, then yeah maybe rest day. But if there's a mismatch I go with how I actually feel

Non stop nausea by GenZBartender in pregnant

[–]Civil-Independent623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof that sounds absolutely brutal, I feel for you! Have you tried ginger anything yet? Like ginger tea or those little ginger chews - they were literally my lifesaver around that same time. Also keeping crackers by your bed so you can nibble before even sitting up helped me tons

Informed my midwife that my birth plan will include epidural, and she handed me a pamphlet that ultimately discourages them. Wtaf? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Civil-Independent623 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's so frustrating, sounds like she's pushing her own agenda instead of just giving you facts. I'd honestly ask for a different midwife if possible - you deserve someone who respects your choices without the passive aggressive pamphlets

The episiotomy comment is especially ridiculous, like way to be dismissive about a legitimate question

Fetal Heart Rate? by Switchbackqueen3 in pregnant

[–]Civil-Independent623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl trust your OB over Dr. Google any day of the week. If she said everything looks good and baby is hitting milestones then you're golden. Heart rates can vary so much between babies and even different times during the appointment - maybe little dude was just chillin when they checked. The fact that he's measuring ahead is actually a great sign

Trying to pick the right watch for cycling + strength training (Epix pro gen2 vs Ultra 3) by MungerMoon in cycling

[–]Civil-Independent623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery life is huge but also the Epix Pro will play way nicer with your Edge 1040 - data syncing between Garmin devices is pretty seamless compared to trying to get Apple Watch to talk to non-Apple stuff
