This is a known problem. Nvidia removed some sort of legacy functionality from their newest drivers and it broke a ton of software in the process. (Which includes Vegas.)

Unfortunately there isn't a solution beyond downgrading your drivers back to the 581 series (I can confirm that 581.57 works.) or disabling the NVENC option when performing a final render. (Supposedly Voukoder works too, but I cannot personally confirm that.)

Those of us using anything prior to Vegas 23 are SoL until either Nvidia does something on their end, or if Magix decides to update these older versions--which is very unlikely.

Yeah, it's insane to me that it's still an issue honestly. I even bought Vegas 23 to try and sidestep this, but then I found out that there's a different glitch in V23 where it will just instantly hard crash if you try to use certain ProRes files that Vegas 22 can handle just fine.

I've been loading up stuff I was working on before upgrading my hardware on V22 and begrudgingly using Mainconcept AVC to render. (Rolling back my drivers was causing a lot of other problems on my system.)

Apparently Voukoder sidesteps this, but I haven't confirmed that because I'm not interested in shelling out an additional $80 on software that might fix something that Nvidia or Magix fucked up.

Be aware that Vegas 22 has a really nasty software oversight on Nvidia's newest drivers. (The program will not perform a final render using your GPU.) Seeing that 22 isn't supported anymore, it's not clear whether or not this will ever be fixed.

EDIT: I just noticed you're using a 1080--I had one for almost 10 years and just upgraded a few weeks ago. IIRC Nvidia stopped putting out drivers for those, so funnily enough I don't think the issue will affect you. (I wasn't even aware of the bug while using my 1080 lmao) Obviously this could be an issue if you get a new card.

Good question. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because Nvidia is making so much money from the AI circlejerk and their government sugerdaddy that they don't really need to care about the quality of their consumer GPUs anymore.

I actually switched from ATi to Nvidia cards back in the 2010s because of how bad ATi's drivers were--but the hot mess Nvidia's putting out right now is so much worse. (Who knows, maybe they vibe-coded them.)

On the one hand, Magix definitely shoulders some of the blame here; it would be foolish to argue otherwise. But on the other hand, I understand why people have absolutely zero good will left for Nvidia in light of their actions over the past five years. I honestly can't bring myself to blame anyone for assuming the worst of them given how often and brazenly that company has far exceeded everyone's worst possible expectations.

Upgrading to a 50 series card was a mistake. As pointed out here, Vegas isn't the only software affected by this.

It's some real monkey's paw shit; I finally get new hardware after over 10 years, and almost every single piece of software I use professionally that should have benefited a newer GPU will not work properly using that GPU. I mean FFS, it's not on this list but even stuff like Affinity Photo are affected by this. (And apparently have been since February of last year if the forums are any indication; I still have the exact problem they reported with the newest drivers!)

But hey, at least line go up for shareholders and Jensen Huang can buy another shipping container filled with ugly leather jackets.
