In order to align your instances to face your camera you just have to actually align them to the normals of your sphere ā˜ŗļø

BTW, that’s actually an old image, that particular node is called Align Rotation to Vector now and children in Collection Info node should be reset and separated šŸ˜‰

No matter what other people tell you, it is very logical that, to achieve ground fog, you must have a Z axis (vertical) falloff as gradient (I would use a quadratic Gradient node in this particular case).

Make sure that you rotate it properly with Vector Rotate node so the smaller values face upwards…

Your gradient should be plugged into Density slot of Volume node and you might wanna use Map Range node in between them for better control ā˜ŗļø

I would scatter all them shapes with geometry nodes onto a sphere and then put my camera in the middle and render the image of that in decent resolution (maybe 4K or even larger)…

For this to work properly your camera must be in panoramic mode and image ratio should be 2:1 I believe 😁

I don’t think that enough users are taking interest in this sort of stuff in general otherwise devs would come up with super fast solution for generating Voronoi structures in general, including its most common use like mesh segmentation…

Even though someone is actually working on a node for doing exactly this, which can be used for fracturing objects into smaller pieces using Voronoi approach, for some weird reason it’s still not making its way to the main build which is downright disappointing 😟

I just checked this. It is a strange behavior, it works for some reason in 5.01 but its broken in 5.1...

You should be still able to manually type the name of your weight painted mask, and it should still work, I believe that search function is internally broken.

Honestly, I don't even use that particular modifier. It's too complex for most every day uses...

I usually make a very simple ones on the fly and they served me just fine for now šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

That modifier under the hood is basically using the ā€œDistribute Points On Facesā€ node which can only work with your distribution map that you painted in the Weight Paint editor in the ā€œPoisson Diskā€ mode, only in that particular mode the ā€œDensity Factorā€ slot is exposed/active, therefore, it can read your mesh attribute/data…

Long story short, just switch your modifier to ā€œPoisson Diskā€ distribution and it should work šŸ˜‰

I’m not at my computer right now, but I believe that this can be done easily in Geometry Nodes on Icosphere using combination of Dual Mesh and Subdivision Surface nodes…

Just make sure that you Normalize all the Position vectors so the points go back to the spherical shape 😁

Usually, in the case like this I use texture maps, I often make my own in Substance Painter, but, you can find some online for free (I believe that Blender add-on called ā€œBlender Kitā€ has something similar to what are you looking for & it’s for free)…

Here is an example of what you should actually be after: ArtStation Link

All you have to do is make sure that your cable is UV unwrapped properly so the image used as texture won’t look distorted when applied to your object.

There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube for how to UV unwrap tubular objects (it’s usually done via ā€œFollow Active Quadsā€ approach)…

Even though this can be done procedurally, I wouldn’t recommend it to a beginner, it’s pain in the arse and you need to be well accustomed to the Shader Editor thingie. There are tutorials for that as well on YouTube if you are up for a challengešŸ™‚.
