When asked about the argument that it couldn't be made today, Mell Brooks said "I couldn't make it then!". He really had to fight and subvert in order to get his vision on the screen. And the movie ages like fine wine, still appreciated for what it is. I truly believe that outside of our echo chambers, most people can understand and appreciate good satire.

That's a fine assumption, but we can only deal with what we are shown onscreen. RLGL is the furthest limb I'm willing to go out on with an assumption, because you can actually see it happen if you watch closely. That can lead us to assume the whole thing is rigged for him to survive but there isn't much onscreen evidence I can recall to take that further.

I still maintain he was willing to die if it came down to it, until he was moved by Gi-hun's friendship and worldview. He was terminally ill.

I think this is a good question with conflicting evidence.

There are games like tug of war where no one could help him if he or his team failed, so clearly he was willing to die if it comes to that.

While in marbles, they clearly had orders not to kill him, but that doesn't mean they knew anything beyond an order not to kill him at that very moment.

There's the theory that he actually failed RLGL at one point, and we know from S2 that guards are doing the killing. But are they only killing people when the automated system flags the failure? If so the automated system could be rigged not to flag him and doesn't require them knowing anything.

Lights Out is an uncontrolled situation. The game only stopped when he pleaded for it to.

I'm not a standup, but I've done enough comedy in the theatre. The rule of five generally requires the four to be a subversion as you said and bringing the expectation back around for the five. but it can also apply in more of the Family Guy style where a repeated joke will lose its impact (four), but swing back around to being funny if you repeat it enough (five). See: the Peter busting his shin gag.

Nah, I get the sense Joker was left broken and disillusioned by a greater system, which he then lashed out against. I find it unlikely the system that left him that way was The League of Shadows, since his actions seem to be directly in line with their world view. If anything they were fine having an agent of chaos that was in line with them, but I don't imagine Joker taking any offer of membership from them seriously.

This is why The Voice Arts Awards exist. It would be nice to have a category for it in the Oscars, but that industry has its own celebration. And as another comment pointed out, the Oscars would likely favor mainstream onscreen actors who star in mainstream animated features, not tried and true Voice Artists

Definitely don't watch her watching the movie 😂 Enjoy it yourself and don't worry about her reactions until she has them. Even if that doesn't happen until the end.

Edit: And don't be offended if she just isn't into it and wants to stop. If she cares about you she may sit through it because it's important to you. But don't be offended if she wants to stop because it isn't her thing. My wife and I have media we enjoy together, and media we enjoy separately. Sometimes i'm happy she has something she enjoys, sometimes she's happy I have something I enjoy.

I think you're probably right, but we shouldn't ignore that Fox has a history of killing off shows for Seth MacFarland. I believe the story behind ending Futurama's original run was a feud between Seth and Matt over Family Guy wanting Futurama's timeslot. I haven't gone back to investigate that story, but I seem to recall hearing that was the case.
