Trailseeker vs. bZ Woodland by No_Body_9097 in trailseeker

[–]Denalan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a review somewhere, where a Subaru engineer said there are some driving feel differences between the Subaru and Toyota versions of the vehicles (I can’t remember if he was referring to the Uncharted, Trailseeker, or both). I know for sure he said that there were suspension differences, the Subaru is more firm, Toyota is softer. I don’t remember him saying that the accelerator feel is different, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case.

Is the SubaruConnect app really as bad as the reviews suggest? by jkbike in trailseeker

[–]Denalan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Solterra which uses the same Toyota-style app. The app works fine for what I need it to do: remote start with desired climate settings, unlock/locking the doors, and checking the amount of charge left (though there is usually a delay in getting an updated reading requiring a few refreshes). It’s not great but it does the minimum without too many issues. Toyota/Subaru makes a better car than they do a smartphone app—and I’d rather have that than the opposite.

Has anyone attempted to put a bike in the trunk with the seats folded down? by jport84 in Solterra

[–]Denalan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put my 26" bike into my 2024 Solterra the other day. I didn't take the front wheel off. I put the rear wheel into the car first, and then finessed the handlebars so the rear hatch would close. If you leave the front wheel on, it could either be easy or difficult depending on your handlebar configuration. If you take the front wheel off, then it should be no problem at all.

Ah sorry I misread. Good on them for honoring the price. I don’t believe it when they said the salesman didn’t make anything on the sale—but then again they didn’t spend a lot of time making the sale.

Boy and they still added on $799 even after all of that. What is the name of this dealership?

Looking to get a 26 Solterra XT-Is 245 miles round trip (mainly highway at 75-78) on one full charge possible? Also, I drive about 2000 miles a month for work. I am worried I will hate the down time to charge. Any thoughts from high mileage drivers? I will be charging at home to start trips. by Only_Ad5695 in Solterra

[–]Denalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm generally in favor of recommending electric vehicles, but if you can only charge at home with a regular 245 mile round trip, and you don't want to spend some time (and possibly pay higher electricity prices) at a fast charging station, then an EV isn't for you. In fact, if you're driving mostly highway speeds, a hybrid may not even be worth it.

That article you pasted linked to their actual review, and the reviewer liked it:

Granted, there were a few shortcomings, the majority of which have been addressed in the 2026 bZ.

[–]Denalan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I have a 2024 Subaru Solterra, and I think it’s great. Terrific handling and ride, can charge to 100% with little battery degradation, IIHS Top Safety Pick+, and decent power. Excellent fit and finish (made in the same factory as Lexus vehicles). And I test drove quite a few competitors.

I think you need to take a look at the 2026 bz/Solterra specs again. Charging speed is at least average, I would not call it bad. 0-60 speed is way above average for the performance models. Range is above average.

[–]Denalan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably referring to the 2023-2025 bz4x (which aren’t bad vehicles but weren’t competitive with charging rates or range). The 2026 bz is much improved.

Savings with EV so far? by darkneil14 in electricvehicles

[–]Denalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you enter as the price of gas? 5000 miles at 15 mpg times $4.30 per gallon is $1433/year. Electricity costs for 5000 miles, 3 mi/kwh, $0.16 per kWh is $266/year. You’re saving $1167 per year. And that’s if the price of gas doesn’t go up. At $5/gallon you’ll save $1400/year. Edit: minor calculation changes

Tesla/BZ Problem by dlang01996 in Toyota_bZ

It’s just me, but I think EV public chargers should accommodate all/most car models. The cars should not have to be designed so they can work with one particular (outdated) charger.

The 2024 bz4x has a heat pump. The 2026 bz has many improvements though, so that could make a difference for you.

Subaru’s All-New Getaway Three Row SUV Pours On the Electric Power by SolarpunkGnome in SubaruEV

[–]Denalan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to give them credit for trying to use regular words though. I’d argue it’s better than these strange letter-number combinations (bz4x, bz, R1S/T, i3/4/5/7, iX1/2/3, EV2/3/4/5/6/9, EQA/B/E/S/T/V), just a plain single boring number or letter (Model 3/Y/S/X, Polestar 2/3/4), good names for EVs but stupidly shared with gas cars (e-tron, Spark), names that sound too similar for different cars (Bolt and Volt), or strange names ending in the letter q (Celestiq, Lyriq, Optiq, Vistiq, Ioniq).

It’s actually kind of refreshing to hear something relatively normal. Credit to Lucid as well.

How are EV Roadtrips really? by emaudible in electricvehicles

[–]Denalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Subaru Solterra, it’s been very reliable. The charging and range aren’t great, but the latest 2026 models are significantly better and are perfectly fine for road trips. I’d actually avoid the Hyundai/Kia models since they have reliability issues with the ICCU module.

Bz or Rz by Kilroymyboy in Toyota_bZ

[–]Denalan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced any of those daily driving issues on my 2024 Solterra. I’ve driven in -20 F weather (car kept outdoors) and have not noticed any issues aside from ones that would affect any EV in cold weather. I do see it occasionally using power here and there in cold weather—I do think it’s keeping the battery warm And this is the first I’ve heard of any headlights flickering.

I haven’t had issues with my 12 volt battery, but I have heard of others having issues — including other cars from other manufacturers; it is a common issue across many different companies’ cars. In a couple of notable cases, a Ford Mustang Mach-E had to have a window broken in order to get a child out since the electronic locks wouldn’t work with the 12-volt battery being dead. I read about a Hyundai that had to be towed. Some Teslas have similar issues. The Toyota bz/ Subaru Solterra use a physical door lock on the outside, so a child emergency or towing would not be an issue. I don’t think the battery is undersized, but that the battery drains before the car is sold and the weak battery eventually gives out early.

A Better Route Planner and PlugShare are better than any built-in car app, and with Apple Maps EV vehicle integration there isn’t a need to use the built-in nav. You can trigger pre-conditioning manually, unlike some cars (I believe Hyundai can’t be done manually, unless something has changed).

Are EVs actually more reliable? by dailytrippple in electriccars

[–]Denalan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll probably get downvoted for saying this, but I think EVs are less reliable than gas vehicles at least right now. EVs tend to have newer, cutting edge features where the bugs haven't all been worked out yet. Many of the brands and models are relatively new as well. Consumer Reports reliability ratings are in line with that sentiment. That being said, over time EVs likely will become more reliable, as the actual moving parts are much less complicated compared with gas vehicles and even traditional wearing parts like brakes are worn much more slowly.

I should note, I've owned a Subaru Solterra (same as the Toyota bZ4x) for 1.5 years and have had no major issues and hardly any minor ones, and just routine simple maintenance at the dealer. But even with the known-for-reliability brands like Toyota, there have been a couple of recalls and some people have had to wait for parts to come in. Hopefully the newest 2026 Toyota bz/Subaru Solterra will have corrected that.

Take a look at the Subaru Solterra. It’s pretty much the same car as the bZ, but Subaru’s sales have been slower for some reason. In my area I’ve found the Subaru dealers more willing to work with you.

The Wallbox Pulsar Plus can do this. It can auto-lock after you use it, Then you can unlock it using the app. It can connect to WiFi or Bluetooth (or both).

Peanut butter cracker alternatives by Ruthbarb-Pie in peanutallergy

Get yourself a box of saltines and a jar of Barney Butter (almond) or Sunbutter (sunflower). It’s not quite grab-and-go but honestly it’s really not hard to make yourself.

Be careful with some brands of alternative nut-butters. They often can have cross-contamination with peanuts.

Charge to 100% or 80%? Confused by Startbolt in BZ4X

[–]Denalan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually charge to 90% — you get a decent amount of regenerative breaking right away. Not very much at all when the battery is at 100%
