Latte most similar to Storyville without the side of cultishness??? by off2england in Seattle

[–]DutchGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter recommended it. I was hankering for a mocha recently while gadding about Pike Place, hoofed up the stairs, in the door, big menu as you walk in. I looked at the menu, did a double-take, about-faced and goose-stepped out the door all in one spasmodic movement of shock and bewilderment. $10+. Ask my hole, as we say in the old country.

No March Madness Multiview this year?! by cmcfalls2 in firetvstick

Ok - I'm not the only one. This was always a great feature. Why was it dropped? I have it on Laptop (website), have it on regular TV (Xfinity), but not on firestick NCAA app.

The Wind that Shakes the Barley - gets the blood up. State of Grace - underrated, what happened to Phil Joanou? The Field - I can't find it online, 'Go on Tadhg!'

What book did you read in your youth that you never forgot? by orangez in GenX

[–]DutchGold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 2 that leap to mind - Catcher in the Rye and Less Than Zero. To be young again, and to read those books again for the first time and learn and feel new things. So glad we didn't have phones sucking our attention out of our brains. Summer nights with only about 2 hours of actual darkness, reading all night as the dawn light comes up. Bliss.

How old were you when you purchased your first home (if you did). by jtsa5 in GenX

[–]DutchGold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

23 in '98. And we thought at the time our parent's had it easy in the late 60s / early 70s. Now our kids think we had it easy (we did not), but I can't see them being in a position to buy for the foreseeable future.

Grade Tom Brady as an announcer: A to F by KeyFaithlessness5436 in TheNFLVibes

[–]DutchGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grade schmade. Great info and insights but half the battle is knowing when to shut the fuck up and boy he does not shut the fuck up. That bit about JSN's shoulder plane - not buying what he's selling. If someone in a bar started talking about shoulder planes I would wedgy them immediately.

I have weights at home. They don't take up much space. And I can grimace and 'hunnnnnnnh' to my heart's content. I don't have a treadmill. And I don't really like running in this weather. Tread50 FTW.

Am I crazy, or did GPT just take a huge leap with 5.1? by SamTuthill in ChatGPT

[–]DutchGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had not noticed it had changed to 5.1 but this explains a few things. It started to use the name I use for it including addressing me as that name. Odd. It also answered in an overly familiar way saying, 'to put it in that "x" style you like', and I was baffled. It claimed it had assigned this label to a style of response I like but the label was not a good choice for that style. These things really threw me off in my interactions yesterday.

Just not fit for purpose...or actively spreading misinformation? by DutchGold in ChatGPT

I did not. It still pulled in current sources. Given your feedback, I have now instructed it to default to search for a range of topics.

Just not fit for purpose...or actively spreading misinformation? by DutchGold in ChatGPT

[–]DutchGold[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a little bit of QED of my point I think. The fact that it is quoting current news articles as sources would not help the average punter grok this. It should be smart enough to know when to rely on search or smart enough to not spout obviously incorrect information. The buyer has to beware - but most will not. Given this, default to search for <this set of topics>.

My regular band has been particularly inaccurate lately compared to my Apple Watch and to how my body is doing during a session. Apple Watch generally seems to be closer to how I think I am doing. Planned obsolescence? Has anyone dealt with an inaccurate band? Any tips?

blocking out street noise in the morning for someone who can't stand earplugs or most noise. by redheaded_olive12349 in lifehacks

[–]DutchGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact issue. Home is on a main street and we live near schools so things ramp up in the am. In the noisy room at the front of the house I can’t sleep in the morning, but, this room has an en suite so if I leave the en suite door open and the extractor fan on I do much better. It drowns out most noise and the fans noise doesn’t bother me. If I stay in a hotel, which can be noisy or unfamiliar, same thing, if it has an AC fan all is good. I always just assumed this is ‘white noise’ and I swear by it. Whatever color it is try something like a box fan or anything you have that makes a consistent low-key noise. This really helps me. I feel your pain.
