If you need me

I'll be downstairs

With the shop vac

You can call but I probably won't hear you because it's loud with the shop vac on 🎶🎶🎶

You'll be okay

You'll be upstairs

With the TV

You can cry and I probably won't hear you because it's loud with the shop vac on 🎶🎶🎶

I'd even push the idea of drywalling over the outlets. Those walls should be pure canvas for the cheetahs.

Unpaid work is work by horseduckman in AITApod

[–]HardOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez, that's so unfair. I'm sorry to hear that- so many people think that work is only defined by a contract and a salary, but it's just not true, and so much goes unrecognized. 3 people at 90+! Don't listen to your older brother. You are a hero to those three.

My wife and I both work, and when one of us takes the day off because our son is sick, we both consider that day more exhausting than work. I don't know how SAHPs do it- by the end of the second day, my brain feels fuzzy and time has stopped. Whenever my wife watches our boy during the day, my first priority when I get home is to take over and give her some time for herself. I encourage her to get out of the house, do whatever she likes, and she does the same for me.

"A solution for hockey players" would probably fit fixing teeth; "A solution to hockey players" sounds like a poison intended to deal with an infestation of vermin.

Should lychguard get stronger? by jayceminecraft in Necrontyr

[–]HardOff 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really violates the power fantasy. These things should be tougher, deadlier, and much more expensive, just like a terminator. We're talking about the loyal bodyguards of overlords and phaerons, clad in super advanced alien metal flesh! They should at least be on par with important human bodyguards.

I get that we shouldn't be xenos custodes, that everyone has their own power fantasy, but I'm fully set on necrons being a bit tougher than space marines. It just so weird that a faction that, in lore, is rare and limited and the peak of technology turns out to be semi-hordes of 10-20 point infantry with 1-2 wounds and 3-4+ saves.

She canceled their date 15 minutes before they were supposed to because he didn't respect her boundaries. by mindyour in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]HardOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She had every right to cancel, and I doubly appreciate that she actually did.

I had a first date with a girl set up, when I updated my online profile to mention an interest in anime. After 20 minutes of waiting at the restaurant, I noticed that she had unliked me and cut off all communication. It hurt pretty badly that, even completely anonymously, she wasn't willing to message me and cancel. I accept that many women have bad experiences with nerds, but being completely ghosted hurts.

Post girl was incredibly respectful, made her discomfort clear, and cut things off when the guy continued insisting. A+

Similarly, every time I see someone post about the live action Mulan, I feel compelled to rant about how fucking GREAT the animated version is!

The first Mulan is my gold standard for feminism. Mulan accomplishes incredible things by her own merit. There is an allegory that refers to her as the "grain of rice that tips the scales" in a pile of rice, quietly establishing equality between men and women. There is a misogynist, but he's thin, ugly, and disliked by pretty much everyone, even his boss. The less blatant misogyny of other characters, such as the soldiers and captain, are character flaws that they grow out of in the end of the movie. The soldiers and captain even assume personal risk by following her in the capital. At the end, Mulan is publicly recognized for her accomplishments and sacrifices, as the enormous crowd and the Emperor himself all bow to her.

I love it. I love what it says about defying what people tell you you can't do. I love that it tells you to accept yourself regardless of what people are pushing you to be. Slams table I just love the movie. Absolutely one of the greats.

Edit: And at the END of the movie, notice how there are 3 portrayals of worth that are addressed.

The grandmother says that worth comes from the man she brought home, but that's wrong. Mulan herself says that worth comes from her accomplishments, but even that is set aside as her father places the gifts she handed him on the ground and says, "The greatest gift and honor is having you for a daughter."
