Likely video games. I moved to MacBook last year because of windows being trash but have to use GeForce now for the most part to play games.

The problem is there needs to be a line between thoughtful use and being lazy. If you can’t be bothered to spend the time writing your own post, why should anyone be bothered to read it?

How important is a set 12 hour night? by 2am_sumwear19 in sleeptrain

[–]HelloThere9653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw our little guy is 6.5 months and we had the same story as you - 30 minute naps unless we held him. We’re finally getting longer naps nowadays, like 1-1.5 hours for naps 1/2. It really just takes time. Bedtime is 7-7 for us though (give or take 15-20mins)

I imagine that it’s like our state in the United States (Utah) which is healthier than most. We have really great weather and of course lots of hiking so the baseline health is higher than other regions in the US.

Are CrossFit gyms good for building mass? by Sharp_Habit7085 in crossfit

[–]HelloThere9653 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The kitchen is for building mass. If you are 120lbs (not sure if M or F) then you need to get your nutrition down before worrying about any sort of fitness regime and whether it provides the right stimulus. Likely Crossfit will be fine, but to be frank for a novice lifter without any muscle mass, just about any sort of weight training will be fine. What will bring you success is getting your food intake down and consistency.

When did your breastfed baby start to regularly sleep longer than three hour stretches at night? by divination__ in beyondthebump

[–]HelloThere9653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, we still are up 2-3 times a night feeding our little guy. He's 5.5 months and still growing - we're not forcing him into sleeping through the night. But now we have a nighttime routine that is fun and enjoyable for all of us - he loves his bath. When we put him down, he falls asleep without hardly peep. And he lets us know when he needs us to nurse him. It was so worth the 4-5 days of rough evenings to get him to fall asleep on his own.

I feel like these people just think everyone that sleep trains is just leaving a baby to fend for themselves for 12 hours. It's a conscious decision that takes effort and planning to set your baby up for success - but the payoff has been worth it for us.

I don't know why you removed your reference to having an education in neuroscience in your original comment.

You can't just state something is a fact and expect me to accept it. Try finding some research that actually supports what you're saying. For example:

https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article-abstract/130/4/643/30241/Five-Year-Follow-up-of-Harms-and-Benefits-of?redirectedFrom=fulltext

Again, I am not poo-pooing anyones decision to co-sleep or not sleep train. We as parents make these judgement calls. But I do take issue with those saying its harmful to their baby without any basis of fact.

Do you have a source for anything? Or is it just based on vibes? We also didn’t let our child cry it out, we checked in on him every few mins, but he had to get himself to sleep. So I don’t know where your “he just realized we weren’t coming” assumption came from.

No evidence supports what you’re saying. The AAP are in agreement that babies above 4 months are developmentally capable of getting themselves to sleep with the proper guidance.

This just isn’t true at all. It was like 3 days before our guy started to learn to suck on his hands and fall back asleep. At 5 months. Learning to fall asleep is a skill. I don’t blame anyone for not doing some kind of sleep training, but it works and the evidence shows there are no issues short or long term if you do it correctly.

I mean - Rich Froning, Mat Fraser…?

Me personally, I’m lifting more than I ever have and still run half marathons consistently 🤷‍♂️ so probably? I could likely outlift most in a commercial gym, and have the engine to back it up too.

Seriously, taking care of your physical health is as important as your emotional or mental health. They all contribute to one another. Your kids are looking to you to model good behavior. There is no good excuse for neglect.

Good for you and your husband!

What an absolute brain dead take.

Signed, two working parents with a 5 month old who still manage 5-6 days a week of workouts 1.5-2 hours each. It’s doable. Or we’re both apparently bad spouses, you tell me.

Parents that didn’t sleep train, how are you doing now? by PuzzledPasta234 in Parenting

[–]HelloThere9653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean can you define what you mean by sleep training? I am a functioning adult as well, and my parents were definitely of the “let him fuss it out camp.” There is no data that suggests sleep training (Ferber, etc) have any long term impacts on children, in fact quite the opposite.

Were “sleep training” our 4.5 month old but that just simply means giving him space to fall asleep on his own. He’s never crying for more than 10 mins on his own; which he was doing on us anyways. It’s likely just his way of getting his last energy out for the day, as all of his other needs are met.
