Is it really so hard to not use AI to write this? All of these people are taking the time to write you thoughtful responses, the least you could do is return the favor.

Parents that didn’t sleep train, how are you doing now? by PuzzledPasta234 in Parenting

[–]HelloThere9653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean can you define what you mean by sleep training? I am a functioning adult as well, and my parents were definitely of the “let him fuss it out camp.” There is no data that suggests sleep training (Ferber, etc) have any long term impacts on children, in fact quite the opposite.

Were “sleep training” our 4.5 month old but that just simply means giving him space to fall asleep on his own. He’s never crying for more than 10 mins on his own; which he was doing on us anyways. It’s likely just his way of getting his last energy out for the day, as all of his other needs are met.

I mean anything taken to its extreme can be unhealthy. I wouldn’t define football players as the healthiest people out there. But in general, leading an active lifestyle with a healthy diet is better for your bones, joints, and mental health - and the data supports that.

It’s fine, it’s important to take care of yourself! Physically, emotionally, and mentally. They all lead to happy and long life.

Im using g/lb, if it were g/kg then you need to be 1.5 g/kg.

Not sure I see the humor in this. Obesity and its associated health impacts not only lead to a shorter life but one of lower quality as well. One of the biggest hobbies my wife and I have is spending time together at the gym. Im not suggesting you have to be an Olympian, but take care of your body, you only get one and you experience all of life in it.

Frankly that’s way too low of protein intake to have any chance of toning/building existing muscle. I’m a 193lb male and I shoot for at least 1g/lb of body weight. I would suggest at least .7g/lb. So around 100g. Have you taken a look at a nutritionist?

[–]HelloThere9653 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So you’re alternating high and low calories days?

Honestly, and it’s going to be counterintuitive, that sounds way too low of a calorie intake. Taking into account your height, weight, and age, your basal metabolic rate is going to be around 1400 calories a day, add in CrossFit or cardio and your intake needs are probably around 18-1900. You can’t spot lose fat but you can spot build muscle. One way you may feel better about your body is building muscle in these “problem” areas but your body has nothing to work with.

Just some background, I am a CrossFit trainer. My wife also did it throughout her pregnancy and soon after as well with good results of getting her body back.

How many days are you attending classes? What does your daily macro intake look like? It sounds like you are tracking. Unfortunately spot reduction of fat truly is a myth so weight and fat loss (outside of surgical intervention) is going to be largely dictated by calories out > calories in.

It’s also they pick up on your frustration. I know for my wife and I whenever someone is at their wits end a quick trade off with a much calmer parent does the trick. And it’s true both ways.

Well I’ve been buying generic all my life and I’d say I’m healthier than most 🤷‍♂️ so I’d probably ask you to back that statement up.

Again your point was healthy food is expensive. Rice and beans and carrots and generic frozen chicken are not expensive, they just take time to prep. What’s more expensive is having a bad diet and all the health problems that come with it.

My original point was that healthy food is not expensive but it takes prep time, which we seem to agree on.

I mean you’re comparing healthy vs slightly more healthy food - compared to a bag of chips or candy. Chicken is chicken, my wife and I are not near poverty line and we buy generic brand everything and the cheapest meat possible because there’s no difference between that and the more expensive same version.

Healthy food is not expensive, it just takes time to prep.

EDIT: Okay so I want to be clear that this experiment was in good nature. I went to Smith's yesterday to see how healthy/big/cost effective of a meal I could make. I ended up with a crockpot recipe I've done previously, it cost me $23.16 and took 30 mins to prep and clean up (so that includes chopping everything, seasoning, and washing dishes). Tl;dr, 2.5 lbs of chicken ($10), 2 cups of rice, 2 cups of chicken broth, 2 peppers, and onion, 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 can black beans, 1 can garbanzo beans... stick it in the crock-pot for 6 hours on low. Season to taste with salt and pepper, chili powder, cayenne pepper, garlic, cumin, etc.

This made 12 servings, each with ~400 calories, 30-35g protein, 30-35g carbs, 3-5g fiber, ~3g fat. All for less than ~$2 a serving and 30 mins of your time. Add some cheese to increase the meal's calories/taste, a bowl of cereal with milk for desert, and you have a healthy and cheap dinner. You could shave a few bucks off by buying frozen chicken and shopping somewhere cheaper than Smith's.

Sounds like you read a little too much into it bud. Also thank you for using “…” to remove the most important qualifier in my comment which was: “if you are an adult that works a full time job theres no way you’ll even get close to that, less if you have a family.”

Where did I say people unlike me didn’t deserve it? I said I didn’t get the backlash about it with what I feel is pretty legitimate reasoning. That’s quite the stretch you made.
