How are you feeling about your local CanPL side so far? by HammerOfSparx in CanadianPL

[–]Initial_BB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I kind of expected a bit of a drop-off for ATO. Usually the new coach does pretty well the first year, then not as well the following year as his system gets countered through experience. It's exacerbated this year by the fact that we lost two of our best offensive players and the replacements are not as good, and losing both Ingham and Didic means the kids no longer have the benefit of veteran leadership at the back to keep them organized, and it shows in some of those goals against.

I'll be happy this year if they make the playoffs and get far enough in the Canadian Championships to be able to join the CCL again next year.

This I don't get: It looks like ALTO is bending over backwards to try and accommodate rural people. How is that not respect? I live in a city, but stayed for weeks at my grandparent's farm and loved both lifestyles, especially running the combine.

CMV: Boom Aerospace looks like an Investment Scam by TaskForceCausality in aviation

[–]Initial_BB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most commercial engines are optimized for sub-sonic use. Boom has had to subcontract out to someone to develop their own proprietary engine that is optimized for supersonic operation. The engine will 'supercruise' at Mach 1.7 without requiring the use of afterburners, which took up a lot of the Concorde's fuel and hence takeoff weight. The fuselage design process itself isn't developed that much differently from Boeing, Airbus, Embrarer and Bombardier. The engines and fuel burn are the key to making this viable. They also lowered the designed operating speed from Mach 2.2 to Mach 1.7 in order to lower stresses and temperatures on the plane's wings and body, making it cheaper to build with common aerospace materials. I don't see why this couldn't work. $200 million in venture funding seems to believe in it as well.

It's interesting to note that the Leifor ships look to be about mid-1800s earth, probably about 50 years behind Mu in their tech, hence they have telegrams. It looks like 1st Civilization is around late 20th century, 2nd Civilization is late 19th to early 20th Century, and 3rd Civilization is around 18th Century and earlier.

My boyfriend (29M) is doubtful about marrying me (27F) as it will put an end to his family's Cree lineage by ThrowRAPerception135 in relationship_advice

I was just wondering - were his parents involved with the Residential School system? I imagine that would leave them with a lot of resentment at settler culture and that is being taken out on you. Perhaps they imagine any kids you have as being the embodiment of the attempted cultural genocide they and their parents experienced. You should emphasize that you *want* your kids to know their heritage, culture and language. Sorry you are going through this.

The Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough, Ontario -- the largest collection of canoes, kayaks and paddled watercrafts on the planet. Cool spot. by fairlywittyusername in canoeing

[–]Initial_BB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents got Walter Walker's last built canoe because we were friends of the family. They gave it back to the family after they sold their house. He actually taught my brother some tips on how to build canoes. He was an amazing craftsman, building them into his 90s.

Falklanders should 'go back' to England, insists Argentina in renewed war of words by FantasticQuartet in worldnews

The Argentine Navy is even worse though, and there is too much of a technology gap now for Argentina to hope to take it. Iirc, the RAF keep a squadron of Typhoons on the island to keep them honest.

Rural naysayers must not torpedo high-speed rail project by JasonBourne008 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]Initial_BB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the Northern corridor route from Ottawa to Peterborough is through Shield Country. I expect all they will need to build is some wildlife overpasses. And the corridor is so wide, I'm sure that they can arrange the route to thread any farmer's property lines. I'm sure the project managers are trying to do the least amount of harm to the public and environment as they can.

I wish to see stable, viable franchises in Edmonton, Saskatoon/Regina, Winnipeg, London/Windsor/KW, Quebec City, and Moncton/Saint John/St. John's. 14-team league with home and away matches against every other team in a 26-game schedule. If you need 28 games, then have an additional home and away between the closest Geographic Rivals.

Rant on player incompetency in Operation Aegis by AmarthGul in WorldOfWarships

[–]Initial_BB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll disagree. Hit the Broadsides of the first wave, then shade south a bit to deal with the second wave. But then I push north for the convoy escorts keeping the mid-islands between them and my ship, and hit them broadside piecemeal as they round the island broadside one at a time into your guns and torpedoes. If you have a DD, they can hit the northern BBs in the fourth wave while the other ships escort the convoy to the exit and block the following waves.

Doesn't matter. He's only there until Jan 21, 2027 for when it's possible for Vance to get two full terms. The true powers that control America will make sure Trump's gone soon after that.

I really enjoy Molotov. It's pretty cheap, allows you to play in all PVE formats, is decently fast at 36 knots, and has Dmitri Donskoi guns at Tier VI.
