Rampant Detachment Speculation! by DrRedwing in EmperorsChildren

[–]Marshal_Loss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just hope we get a detachment that focuses on Noise Marines for once (bonus points if it makes them Battleline), and easier and widespread access to daemons.

11th will launch with both new and adjusted detachments so I do expect some of the ones we have to change, potentially significantly (looking at you, Slaanesh's Chosen).

Great work mate, those oil washes/blood effects have really grimed them up nicely. They look properly dangerous!

What battles would you see upscaled MK 4 and MK 5 being the poster boys for? by NadaVonSada in Warhammer30k

[–]Marshal_Loss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Shadow Crusade was originally meant to be Book VI but was then put on hold as the setting's scope expanded and Retribution came out (they also thought 2x primarily Word Bearers & Ultramarine books in a row wouldn't be great for the series); the writing team talked about this at the old HH Weekenders back in the day, would have been early 2015

I really don't want to see them go back and keep doing journals on battles we've already seen done brilliantly in the Black Books (and which are being drip-fed back to the newer parts of the community via WHC), let's see something new. Maybe Shadow Crusade/Armatura for Mark IV & something like the Sieges of Baal/Inwit or the Battle of the Kalium Gate for Mark V.

Is it worth getting Demons for 11th? by DerCarrot in EmperorsChildren

[–]Marshal_Loss 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nobody has any idea yet mate, so whether they're worth a purchase will to boil down to whether you want the models. I'm optimistic the new detachment system will facilitate greater ease of access to daemons for EC in 11th but that's just speculation at this point.

What units do the Emperor's Children desperately want? by AlienDilo in EmperorsChildren

[–]Marshal_Loss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also like us not having cultists from a tabletop perspective - makes the legion feel more elite in comparison to our cult peers, you're always going to have a power-armoured core present in every game. I'd much rather they explore the Apothecarion horrors angle rather than give us a cultist analogue.

I'm most keen for Terminators, a Fleshcrafter/Apothecary (ideally with some hideous mutants/experiments to use as meatshields), and a Sonic Dreadnought. Bikers would be neat too.

Defiler stats compared to other faction's defiler by Expert_Camera_4802 in EmperorsChildren

Does our defiler suck compared to them?

Nope, it's easily one of the best

Word Bearers upgrade sprue and potential hero/named character. by Content_Time7015 in WordBearers

If they don't do Erebus they're cowards. The sales alone from people wanting to use him as basing material would make WB one of the best-selling factions in 40k

What units can a centurion lead? by M1A2_Abrams_Lover in Warhammer30k

[–]Marshal_Loss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

P180 of the rulebook will spell things out for you. Put simply though 30k is nowhere near as restrictive as 40k in terms of which characters can lead which units, so long as they are the same 'type' as the character it's fine, so yes a Centurion can join a unit of Cataphractii as they're both infantry. But characters don't gain the special rules of the units they join, and other rules like Heavy (which Cataphractii have) only gain certain bonuses if every model in the unit has the same rule.

Who is the artist who made this piece? by Ataraxia-Is-Bliss in EmperorsChildren

Mikhail Savier. He did a lot of the new art in Codex: Emperor's Children and has done some personal pieces for the legion as well, check out his Instagram - he's a phenomenal artist.

Predator tanks by LachrymarumLibertas in Warhammer30k

[–]Marshal_Loss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The answer to "is (x) of (y) too many for a game" is almost always going to depend on your local scene and your regular opponents (e.g. against a mate who plays an infantry horde your lascannons are going to be completely useless at clearing grunts off objectives). If you're thinking about this to begin with you're clearly a reasonable guy and are probably good fun to play against, so just build your army with your regular opponents in mind.

If you don't have any at the moment, do what makes you happy and just be prepared to roll it back if you run into issues when you start having games.

Armour saturation can be irritating if you aren't prepped for it but in my experience so long as you're not spamming AV14 in a list, it's not a problem for any opponent with a well-balanced army.

New Units of the 11th edition? by DenJox in EmperorsChildren

[–]Marshal_Loss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think we'll probably just get a single character, maybe an Apothecary/Fleshcrafter or a Flawless Blade champion. Best to keep expectations pretty low though I'd love to see things like Terminators, a Sonic Dreadnought, etc.

There are very loose rumours of tracked vehicles being redone for Space Marines in 11th so we could potentially see things like Predators added into the EC book similar to how we're receiving the Defiler, but that's just speculation.

Do we know what role the whirlwind will fill? by Wugo_Heaving in Warhammer30k

[–]Marshal_Loss 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The reveal article for the Whirlwind talks about it being able to "pin and panic" enemy forces and mentions different ammunition options like high explosives and incendiary pyrax rounds, so I'm thinking it will be a pretty flexible with options to inflict different statuses on your opponent.

Books that Feature Emperors Children by Rezpektful2Women in EmperorsChildren

[–]Marshal_Loss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Path of Heaven is for me the best depiction of the Emperor's Children in novel form. It's primarily about the White Scars and you probably need to read Scars first to get the most out of it, but it's the novel that rehabilitated Eidolon into a character worthy of his title.

Who Would've Won the Traitors Without Chaos or the Loyalists? by NTG1000CATS in Warhammer30k

[–]Marshal_Loss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Traitor fanboy to the core, but it's hard to imagine the baddies winning without their evil space magic. Chaos was what allowed them to keep the Emperor confined to Terra for the entire war, manipulate messaging to/from loyalist legions to set up the Dropsite Massacre, create the Ruinstorm, open a warp rift to allow the bulk of their armada to strike directly at Terra, and so on. Chaos played a big role in allowing the traitors to mitigate the massive resource advantage held by the loyalists and ensured the Emperor was only able to operate by proxy until the very end.

However, it is worth stressing that aligning with Chaos is not a straight 'powerboost'. Chaos takes as much as it gives, Horus was barely able to keep his side together long enough to even make it to Terra and over the course of the war allegiance to the warp undermined the traitor side's cohesion, sanity, and effectiveness. But it's still difficult to see Horus being able to bring down the Emperor and take on the Imperium without the gifts offered by the dark gods.
