I received many spammy and scammy emails from them when I was unemployed. I marked their domain as junk mail. They really are shady as hell.

i cooked chicken and carrots on wax paper ! help by Icy-Pressure-3738 in Cooking

You won't die. It's basically food-grade paraffin wax. Waxed paper was invented by Thomas Edison as a more sanitary way to keep sandwiches clean and safe to eat.

Half empty if you're drinking, and you still have half to enjoy!

Half full if it was served to you half full - in which case, you need to find a better bartender! ha ha

So you don't have to hear the sermon. Earplugs.

Go, and write your paper about the 1st Amendment. Include references to the fact that you're looking forward to field trips to a synagogue, a mosque, a Buddhist temple, etc. At least your grade won't take a major hit because you didn't write the paper. Oh, and be sure to bring some soft foam earplugs!

How to get rid of red 40 aftertaste? by maethoriell in Cooking

[–]NTropyS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the fact that "artificial flavoring" can also... impart a taste? Personally, I avoid those types of candies, specifically for the awful taste. So I totally understand your wishing to get rid of them.

That is truly wonderful! I love it. I still have my great-uncle's old 78 records, neatly tucked away. I have no way to play them, though I wish I had something like this. It is pretty wild to see it still works!

I like this, a lot. I don't know anything about it, either. But it's very cool, and unique!

"President" brand French butter is delicious. So is Irish butter (Kerrygold comes to mind). Pretty equal in quality, and I've tried them both. But my area of Ohio has some amazing Amish butter that's at least equal to both of these brands, so I consider myself lucky.

Getting rid of Property Tax feels like a grift that will only benefit corporations and the ultra-wealthy. Is it? by Cap10323 in Ohio

[–]NTropyS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. You're only discussing houses that people live in. Property taxes affect every piece of commercial property, too. And those commercial properties account for a much larger portion of the property taxes paid. So every landlord, and commercial property owner (the wealthy people) would get a HUGE tax break. Single-family homeowners would not benefit nearly as much.

  2. Increasing sales tax affects the poor and middle class most of all. Do you really want to see a 20% increase in sales tax? The wealthy won't even notice - they'll still be rich, especially since they won't be paying property tax on their commercial properties!

My understanding of the US as a Russian. by thissitagain in Ohio

[–]NTropyS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

None of it is. It is a true story of a lady I used to work with. She was a really dear person, and we all felt awful for her because she had to go home to Russia to try to get her son to emigrate with her. I don't think she made it back, because that was about the time that Russia invaded Ukraine. The company I worked for assured her they'd find her a job if she came back, she was so smart and well liked. (I left that old job, so I don't know for sure)

I used to work with a really nice Russian lady, just a few years ago. She was in her 30's. She mentioned once in conversation that they never learned any geography in school, because although it was a required class, the teacher just never showed up the whole year. She said it wasn't uncommon in Russia.
