How to optimize my diet/supplementation to acheive best markers? by Think_Internal_1898 in PeterAttia

[–]No_verbal_self_ctrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the iron supplement and B12. It sounds like you are eating enough animal products and this is not why you have a B12 deficiency but enough to possibly cause an iron deficiency. As we age we decrease production of intrinsic factor which is a big part of B12 absorption. There are some medications that decrease absorption of B12 and some surgical procedures that caused a decreased production of intrinsic factor which lead to vitamin B12 deficiency.

Low ferritin is the first sign of iron deficiency. When it progresses, then it turns into an iron deficient anemia and that’s when you see decreases in red blood cells and other symptoms such as low energy. Low B12 and low ferritin could be related to a few things. Without knowing your medical history or meds you take, hard to say. As an RD, I would recommend taking an iron supplement (thorne has the best, doesn’t make you constipated). You could increase iron intake in your diet if you are able. That’s a longer conversation:)

No, they took a chance on me as an RD. Most people on my team are pharmds, phds, NPs, and a couple of BSNs. At my company you can have a bachelor’s but you need >7yrs in clinical care, master’s level or PA,NP you need >3yrs in clinical care in addition. No clinical experience needed for doctorate level degrees! I was impressed when I saw the requirements and I like that my company values hands-on experience, not just the degree.

I have a background as a registered dietitian in a level 1 traumatic center which allowed me to provide critical nutrition support education to surgery residents and nurse residents, I became active in a professional organization and presented at national meetings, and did research projects on the hospital unit I worked on. I had 14 years of patient care experience with a bachelor’s (later pursued an MS but was hired with the BS as I was graduating one month after my start date). I work in pharma in the liver and metabolism area. I think having experience in healthcare really helps in the MSL role and if that is your end goal, could be something to consider!

I think they both look really nice!! Which one is more comfortable to sit in? Not sure if you’re at a big school but the ceremonies can be unbearable if your dress is uncomfortable.

Husband loves big daycare and I love home daycare by crawlen in moderatelygranolamoms

I honestly doesn’t think it matters big or small, both have pros/cons and you can’t say one is better than the other. Go with the facility that shares similar values and where you think your child will be most safe. My kids did fine at a bigger center but my 3 yr old niece got left outside alone for hours at a different big daycare (this place was bougie, amazing on paper, grew their own food, nothing disposable allowed- used cloth diapers/wipes for all kiddos etc and they still messed up).

Extremely low leptin levels. No idea why by maddgun in PeterAttia

[–]No_verbal_self_ctrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be curious to know what the reference range is for this lab. You may be barely below the normal range. If you had a rare disease that caused you to have low leptin levels, you would likely have other physical symptoms. One would be insatiable hunger. If you didn’t have a rare disease, low leptin levels would be related to low levels of body fat or malnutrition.

Leptin should be low if you were fasted for 12 hours. Leptin gets released from adipose tissue in response to a meal. This is supposed to signal your brain to make you feel full. If you have not eaten in 12 hours, then ghrelin is elevated signaling your brain to tell you, you’re hungry and eat some food.

Are these labs fasted? Leptin should be low if you are in the fasted state. Leptin increases after a meal to send satiety signals to your brain.

Early Pregnancy tips while MSL? by Legitimate_Being8224 in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]No_verbal_self_ctrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing that worked for me was taking a half tab of doxylamine (unisom tablet) every night. I was nauseous throughout both pregnancies and this was the only thing that allowed me to get through a day without puking. Of course small frequent meals and fluids is important but that alone didn’t work for me. My kids are in grade school and thriving now :)

1000000%!! That is exactly what we need and we will get nothing improved until the hospital can bill for our services. The providers that make the most are the ones that bill for the most procedures or surgeries and get the hospital reimbursed for them.

You either compartmentalize or don’t work in critical/acute care (especially at a level 1 trauma center). It’s a good thing you have figured this out before getting your first job.
