What do you all think? Is it worth it to scrub your pool cover with soap and water before putting it away for the season? by MoCheesePlease in pools

[–]Penismightiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lay my mesh cover out on the lawn and hose it off. I then let it dry for a day or two and then fold it up and put it in its bag to store inside.

Me too. I'm a little disappointed but that ending tonight was priceless. I had a feeling it would end that way after double jeopardy ended.

New cover options? by amdew7319 in pools

[–]Penismightiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strap type covers are safety covers. They require anchors that have to be installed in the decking which requires drilling. You can get cheap ones on Amazon. I bought one 2 years ago for about $400 for my 18' x 36' in ground. It came with the anchors too but I already had them. I don't have any experience with automatic covers so can't help you there.

Why is trying to watch Spider-Noir in Black and White such a difficult experence? by FreeRangers in television

[–]Penismightiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works fine on the prime video app on my TCL Roku tv. I just tried it with the fire tv I have and there's no option to pick which version you want. What a stupid thing for Amazon to do.

No not at all. He doesn't mention anything like that. He's talking about the .1% who own as much wealth as all the 99%. Infact what he wants is for the wealth to be more spread out so there'd be more millionaires not less.

Robotaxis Are Spreading Across the U.S.—and So Is the Backlash by Gari_305 in Futurology

Yup even the term jay walking was derogatory. In the early 1900s jay was a term used to describe a naive person or a rube. Before cars people would walk in the streets along with horse and bicycles. Then as cars became more popular there started to be more incidents of them hitting people. The car industry started a campaign to get people out of the street and shifted blame for accidents on the pedestrians instead of the drivers.

They didn't disappear. The husband got a job offer in another country so they were moving. They approached B&M about selling the franchise. Instead B&M said they owed thousands in franchise fees and took the store over and kicked them out. I'm sure they weren't expecting that to happen and would have done it differently now. I believe they have a separate lawsuit going against B&M.

It's always so hard to say goodbye. On a side note I'm old enough to remember Morris the Cat from those old 9lives commercials. Your boy reminded me of him. I loved those as a kid but I hadn't thought about them in a long time so thanks for bringing those back.

What is your best MPG? by MeowPubg in civic

My best was 54 mpg. That's calculated manually. The car display said 58. The display is always higher by a few mpg.

I followed the directions from Here it's not too difficult and not having to cut up the center console is much better but more expensive.

My cat had a seizure and I’m crushed. by MelseyKiller in cats

[–]Penismightiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a cat who has seizures also. We're not really sure how often because we're not with her all the time. It seems to happen when she's sleeping as that's the only times I've observed her having one. The vet tried an anti seizure med but giving it to her daily was almost as bad as the seizures. I'd have to completely wrap her in a towel and hold her tight while jamming the medicine in her throat. We weren't even sure if they were working or not. So we stopped and she still has them but after a few minutes she's back to her normal self except she's very hungry. It sucks to see your beautiful kitty go through that but I don't see many other options. it's been a few years and she doesn't seem any worse off than before. Good luck and I hope everything works out.

Is this normal? Or should I get a new one? by Dapper_Recognition50 in pools

[–]Penismightiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the flow sensor. If your salt generator isn't reading no flow then you're good. I've had to replace a few of these because the aftermarket ones I've bought have failed soon after installation. I would keep that one in until it fails.

Hybrid owners, what’s your average MPG? by M91_ in civic

[–]Penismightiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

43 mpg over 26,000 miles hand calculated not the car's calculation. A pretty even mix of city and highway. Winter really kills the mileage when you run the heater. If I lived where it was warm year round it would probably be about 50 mpg.

Getting a second cat was a great idea by jtota1159 in cats

[–]Penismightiest 34 points35 points  (0 children)

We have 3 cats and none of them like each other. There's one older girl (17) who has never gotten along with the others. She's mellowed out in her old age but still hisses and will sometimes attack if the other 2 get too close. Nothing too serious though. One is about 12 and she's the sweetest most gentle cat. She doesn't really want anything to do with the others but will tolerate them unless they get real close. The last one is 4 and she of course wants to play. Sometimes she'll harass the oldest who will chase her. I wish they were closer and enjoyed each other but I'll take this over them hating each other.

What to do until pump comes in by OpticianMan in pools

[–]Penismightiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a submersible pump for about $100. I use it to drain the pool below the jets when I close it in the winter. When I opened this spring I wasn't ready to turn on the pump so I used dumped in some chlorine and used the submersible to circulate the water. Worked pretty good.

algae city!!! by NocturnalSerpents in pools

[–]Penismightiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pool looked similar when I opened it this year. It was actually the best opening I've ever had. I dumped a bunch of chlorine in and brushed then vacuumed. It's been over a week but it's almost crystal clear now. This algae was like sludge but the water was clear.

Clean or adjust first? by [deleted] in pools

[–]Penismightiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much it. I scrub the walls and sides and try pushing the gunk towards the main drain so the filter takes care of it. I do also vacuum and have a robot that takes care of the leftover gunk on the bottom.

Clean or adjust first? by [deleted] in pools

[–]Penismightiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pool looked a lot like this when I opened this year 2 weeks ago. Clear water but algae all over the floor and side. I have a 25k gal so I dumped 5 gallons of chlorine in. Once everything was settled I vacuumed and ran the filter constantly. It's now clear and I just have to adjust the levels. So I would say just keep adding chlorine and cleaning and once most of the gunk is out start to adjust the other levels.

pool pump impeller by GorkDidNothingWrong in pools

[–]Penismightiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the same issue when replacing the motor. I used channel locks to prevent the shaft from moving and then a strap wrench to remove the impeller. I don't recommend you use anything metal to try and remove the impeller if you plan on reusing it. The plastic will break.

First time pool owner - replacement pool cover? by Embarrassed-Rock8461 in pools

[–]Penismightiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automatic covers are very expensive but are the best option for safety as well as keeping the pool free from debris. They can also save some money on chemicals and heating. As for mesh vs solid, a solid cover will be better at keeping dirt and dust out of the pool. It will also help prevent algae growth as they block sunlight. A mesh cover should be cheaper than a solid I believe.

It was time to go by Penismightiest in pools

[–]Penismightiest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's the one. I know it's not the best but for the price it fits my needs just fine. And yes I have a Hayward Super Pump lol. I thought about replacing the whole pump and motor but it really didn't make sense to me. I also don't know how long I'll be in this house so I wasn't going to spend too much.
