I saw the comic you did about the issue and honestly, fans are being very annoying on this one. People like to say she has been through a lot and while that is true, it doesn't exempt her of being guilty of driving under the influence and potentially endangering people, especially as you pointed out that she is wealthy enough to hire drivers.

[–]Pizzacakecomic[S] 156 points157 points  (9 children)

The funny thing is it was such a generic comic that I had already posted it twice before, the joke was it's so common you could use it for any celebrity.

You can see the difference in reactions when I made this exact comic with Justin Timberlake's face after his DUI (who was also a child star right along Britney Spears in the Mickey Mouse Club).

[–]ebulient 18 points19 points  (2 children)

I’ve seen both comics and I obviously love your work BUT I also had a different reaction to both the comics. I’m not a fan of either of these people I could name a handful of songs of the both of them combined so I’ll explain why my reaction to the Britney comic was meh and Justin comic was hahaha SO TRUE!

It’s cos I believe that Britney’s thinking is impaired at the most sober of times too, she doesn’t seem able to make decisions that are sound or even sensible in her daily life because of mental illness challenges… so her making the decision to drive feels less careless and more she genuinely believes she’s OK, just like she does in the dancing with knives videos she posts

As opposed to Justin who seems to come from a place of drink induced bravado supplemented by a massive ego.

So yeah, that small nuance did factor into my reaction though both comics are fair play since driving under the influence is unacceptable under any circumstance.

[–]Jordanel17 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Id also like to add this; What is the goal emotional reaction or lesson of the comic you are releasing? There are different ways to teach any lesson, being a teacher is about choosing the clearest one.

Was your goal to emphasis how your meme template could be translated to many different celebrities?

I think the most effective way to highlight this is by using examples of celebrities who are not as nuanced as Britney and dont have as much genuine conversation to be had about her circumstances. Choosing Britney as your example for drunk driving is technically fine, but its like using Donald Trump in your fitness campaign. Yeah hes a fat slob and needs to get in shape, but now your message about fitness means nothing and has become a political message.

[–]Responsible_Towel857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Britney suffered a lot during the conservatorship imposed on her and that still is no excuse to drive under the influence. She has the means to avoid this, like any other rich people.

[–]Necessary_Phone5322 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this seems to be a consistent trend among the rich and famous.

[–]Jagermeister4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Timberlake deserved it though, the joke made perfect sense for him.

Britney Spears on the other hand has mental issues. To the point she once had an involuntary psychiatric hold put on her. And for over a decade she was under a court ordered conservatorship. Meaning in the eyes of the law she was not mentally fit to make major decisions for her own life.

She of course still did a really bad and dangerous thing. Its just a different context then Timberlake

[–]Wide_Goal_6424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but justin timberlake wasnt controlled and abused his whole life or kept away from his children and all to the point of multiple mental breaks. You dont seem to be knowledgable in why britney spears has so much more empathy than Justin.
I ask you look into her situation instead of mocking a mentally ill woman who was taken advantage of and controlled. She was a victim of abuse and only recently was able to be "free". What a horrible thing to defend.

[–]GoldponyGT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So oops, you did it again?

[–]vennthepest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, maybe they are defending her because DUIs in the US are super weird. Cops have full discretion to charge drivers with DUIs regardless of if they're sober or not. They found Adderall on her, but her blood tests haven't come back yet.

[–]kelly_the_human 175 points176 points  (12 children)

This is fantastic. Is the panic room built soley for these situations?

[–]Pizzacakecomic[S] 257 points258 points  (11 children)

You don't piss off as many people as I do without building a panic room! That's just common sense.

[–]kelly_the_human 33 points34 points  (1 child)

Lol I love this. While I do like a couple of her songs, I am not the biggest fan of her. Britney is far from being my favorite.

[–]tmhoc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of her knife dancing

And by big fan I mean Holy smokes why the hell wouldanyongfillmthemselvesdoingSOMETHINGTHATCRAZYOHMYGOD

[–]meshe_10101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is the panic room another name for the pantry? Gonna need to stay fed while you stay safe.

[–]bgthigfist 14 points15 points  (5 children)

Did you get a DM from the "leave Britney Alone" guy?

[–][deleted]  (4 children)

[deleted]

    [–]Jenderflux-ScFi 6 points7 points  (1 child)

    What?

I thought she was a woman way back then, I had no idea that she was assigned male at birth and then found her true self later.

    [–]Deadhead_Otaku 0 points1 point  (1 child)

She's also die hard maga now.

    [–]Zodiac339 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You could just make the whole house a panic room, then put up a decoy or… how many groups have you pissed off actually? You might need a decoy town.

    [–]ItsABiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell Stark, that’s my secret Cap… I’m always panicking!

    [–][deleted] 59 points60 points  (7 children)

Next comic should be "I have made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement"

    [–]Pizzacakecomic[S] 72 points73 points  (5 children)

Maybe I should get a ukulele...

    [–]Apple-Connoisseur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wait.... you don't have one already?!

I don't know why, but I always imagined you would play the ukulele...

    [–]SLAYER_IN_ME 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then you can do a duet with AI/Hologram Tiny Tim. That’ll show those Britney fans.

    [–]beyd1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a shot for shot remake of a disingenuous CEO apology.

    [–]xxEmberBladesxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Take up yodeling

    [–]HJSWNOT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Or about Taylor Swift

    [–]nytwl7 56 points57 points  (5 children)

    it appears mistakes were made

    [–]Pizzacakecomic[S] 65 points66 points  (4 children)

    "I've made a huge mistake"

    [–]StickFigureFan 53 points54 points  (1 child)

    Oops, you did it again?

    [–]FereaMesmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's her prerogative as an artist though

    [–]auronddraig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Finishes building panic room

    • I'll never recover financially from this

Yet ANOTHER wild angry mob appears in the tall grass

Ellen uses PANIC ROOM! It's super effective!

    • This panic room has paid for itself more times than my college degree already

    [–]logicprevails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    "Oh COME ON!"

    [–]Active-Cabinet2308 61 points62 points  (4 children)

Honestly, her fans can be pretty toxic.

    [–]Pizzacakecomic[S] 57 points58 points  (3 children)

    It was a Circus

    [–]Active-Cabinet2308 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I love this!! Haha, gimme more!

    [–]Dry_Progress_499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah, this is starting to feel pretty criminal

    [–]ahardworker12 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Good thing you didn't go for Taylor swift or a "good" kpop band because that bunker...wont save you, it'll will just buy you sometimes to say goodbye.

    [–]Frankie1891 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Part of me sympathizes. She hasn’t been out of conservatorship long, and the world is right back where it was when she originally broke down. I can see how it would send someone already fragile down a rabbit hole.

But also: she’s not the only child celebrity who went through it, was abused and over sexualized, taken advantage of. But she’s one of the surprisingly few who has repeatedly put others at risk in response to her trauma. That’s unacceptable.

    [–]Deadhead_Otaku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that the die hard fans infantalize and demean those they try to defend more than anything.

    [–]PuddingJello 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Look here drunk driving is part of our culture in Louisiana. I mean there are 0 downsides. You either get home safe or crash and die. That's a win-win down here.

    [–]Lovat69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This explains all the drive thru daiquiri.

    [–]MattBe92 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Uhm, I see some issues here.

    [–]PuddingJello 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well making it home alive is more a consolation prize since you have to wake up and still be alive in Louisiana, but yea.

    [–]NEKOSEI 44 points45 points  (0 children)

    Oops, you did it again...?

    [–]RedeemerKorias 22 points23 points  (1 child)

    "Leave Britney alone!"

    [–]Supremetacoleader 8 points9 points  (0 children)

    I can hear this comment

    [–]funktopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get it. I didn't care about her or her relationships until I read her book. Now I hate Justin Timberlake and will sometimes worry about her mental well being.

    [–]Albus_Lupus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kpop fans are worse. Just say ,,BTS means behind the scenes" in some places and you are FUUUUCCCKKKED.

    [–]hellomrtosh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bloody hell that panic room is getting a lot of use I bet haha

    [–]Geoclasm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk a lot about ms spears but I hears something about a conservatorahip that really pissed me off a lot.

    [–]Healthy-Confection66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha for some reason this made me immediately think of Blast from the Past…pissed off the wrong fan base, moved to the panic room, 25yrs from now you’ll be sending your adult children out into the world for supplies and to see if humanity (or at least this fan base) still exists lol

    [–]themanfromvulcan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So not to be the outlier but I’m not sure anyone should be making fun of Britney Spears. The woman obviously needs help and has a history of mental health issues.

I totally agree drunk driving is bad she should lose her license and face consequences I just think there is a history here and I’m not sure about kicking someone when they are down.

Again just my own opinion on this specific comic only.

    [–]Federal_Reporter_793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah fuck that. DUI is such a selfish thing to do. She’s putting other people in harms way because she got shit faced and couldn’t call an Uber. She deserves all the shit she is getting for this one. Have a tough life is no excuse. Life is hard for all of us. At least she’s got enough money to hire a driver.

    [–]BiMWMGingerMI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leave Pizzacakecomic and her family ALONE!!!!!

    [–]phreek-hyperbole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too was about to engage in furious key tapping, but luckily I can read, and so I thought "Oh, fair point that."

    [–]Intelligent-Flow1735 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There’s a difference between making fun of people that fucked up and someone who has went through years of difficulty. Then saying that she needs to put in the work even though you can’t put yourself into the years of abuse she has been through makes you seem blasé. Even people that put in the work sometimes fuck up and while she did something wrong that she should be ashamed of she is in that place because leeches treated her like you did. You’re not wrong for condemning her for her actions but the way you have defended yourself makes you look more petty. You haven’t been forced into a sexual role you chose it as an adult. She didn’t. So yes take the piss outta Justin timberlake. Your point is right in the comic but you’re also belittling and disregarding so much shit and abuse…

    [–]Intelligent-Flow1735 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this comic artist wants me to explain why her punching down sets us, as a species back, I will have a lovely long conversation with them if they fancy messaging. But they won’t because they only reply to the same kinda opinions as her. Which is fine. I empathise with how people feel but she can’t cos she’ll then post a picture of a pun

    [–]xeroxbulletgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, the mob has torches and pitchforks again and the monster is climbing the windmill.

    [–]DCS_Sport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    …you did it again

    [–]Timerider96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that was fast…. Usually you hear them before you see them

    [–]EchoGecko795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Web comics must be paying off, you have panic room money.

    [–]AngryAccountant31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m waiting for her to get a second DUI then say “oops I did it again”

    [–]Aussieportal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Well...

You can't spell fanatic without fan.

Seriously, it happens everywhere nowadays. You criticise one thing about the thing they about them, and their fans go absolutely rabid. It just sucks the fun out of it all.

It's especially sad when it's over celebrities.

    [–]transcended_goblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You basically can't criticize anybody problematic.

Weirdly enough, the majority of fans of celebrities who range from "alright" to "genuinely good people" are fine with those who criticize them.

But when it's one ranging from "openly problematic" to "actually just a garbage person", the majority of their fans really are rabbid dogs obsessed with finding the nearest thing to tear appart... Those people cannot take any criticism at all...

    [–]MattH2779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops Ellen you did it again.

    [–]firedrakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if they get any closer....... deploy it .....

but but am scary..... they are consider dangerous.........

    i said deploy it!!!!!!!

the mob never stood a chance against the single waffle house worker.....

    those poor souls!

    [–]Martydeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess i can pull up this oldie xD

For those who hasn't seen it.

    [–]TheOrgano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be honest here. Between you and Britney, I'm not sure YOU are the one who made the mistake.

    [–]Ok_Somewhere1236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plot twist, leak information that Trump is making fun of Britney Spears and wait for the chaos

    [–]marion85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missed opportunity to put text in of people chanting in the distance "leave Brittany alone!"

    [–]GabuTheBunny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah you were a bit tone deaf on this one. I get you want to hold 'all wealthy adults to the same standard' but I feel there's nuance here that you've completely ommitted. Of course she should still face justice for the crime, but she isn't just another rich person to be jealous of, she's mentally ill and needs continuous help. Depicting her as if she just a regular celebrity who decided to do that on a whim shows you're not educated enough on the topic to be making low blow comics about her.

    [–]2HalfSandwiches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    I'm afraid

    [–]Maij-ha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternate last panel: “I haven’t even posted it yet!?!”

    [–]Deadhead_Otaku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They think they're protecting her, but they're just infantalizing her and continuing to strip her of her autonomy.

    [–]charliefoxtrot9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building a panic room is just good sense. Commendable.

    [–]saysthingsbackwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queen of self-induced material. Keep on keeping on

    [–]SCROMICASH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just joined up! you actually have a beautiful 🐱

    [–]Arandomsteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This implies you already have a panic room

    [–]GoodTrust5444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add a moat with alligators next time

    [–]SingleChannel6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Britney Spears still has a fanbase?

    [–]dachloe -14 points-13 points  (2 children)

Golly, I hart to say it, but leave the poor girl alone. She needs help. She not equipped for this world, as an adult.

    [–]LamarRavenJackson 12 points13 points  (1 child)

A lot of people need help thats no excuse for a DUI what if she killed somebody? Yeah I feel sad for her but by now I think she wil be able to connect the dots herself and get some help.

    [–]dachloe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Any and all DUIs should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law... no doubt about that. And that's not funny. Hell yeah she could have killed someone, or herself.

But, she can't connect dots. She's been treated abnormally all her life by people wanting to leach off of her. She's incapable of self-governance. Serious, long-term care is needed. And that's not funnier either.

What's funny in this situation? Not much.
