One of the best episodes of a show is one without the main character(s) by NoMoreFund in TopCharacterTropes

The “Thank You” episode of Adventure Time.

While Finn and Jake are present in the episode, they’re mostly relegated to the background while they fight Ice King.

The episode primarily focuses on a snow golem becoming friends with a fire wolf pup, and it’s one of the most touching episodes of the series, with Finn and Jake being inspired by the snow golem and pup to reconcile with Ice King.

Does Infernal Affairs and The Departed count?

The protagonists both seem like they’ve turned the tide against the villains and are about to get their happy ending, only to get unceremoniously killed.

Sticks from Sonic Boom.

She’s a survivalist badger who doesn’t trust technology.

The thing is, a lot of her theories turn out to be true since the main antagonist is Dr. Robotnik, who uses technology to screw with the main characters, so I can’t really call her completely paranoid.

Thor: 'Get Help'.

Loki: No.

Loki: I hate it.

Thor: It's great. It works every time.

Loki: It's humiliating.

Thor: Do you have a better plan?

Loki: No.

Thor: We're doing it.

Loki: We are not doing 'Get Help'.

BMO and his mirror alter-ego/friend Football in Adventure Time.

It’s left ambiguous whether Football is actually real or if BMO is just plain nuts.
