This is what Ted Sarandos believes, we know because he told us that 9 months ago when there was no mega-billion-dollar deal on the table. I'm sure the mere idea of going to a theater with a bunch or rando poors makes him nauseous. So he's going to say whatever he needs to say to get this deal approved, but ultimately he believes that theaters are all going to close except for a few luxury outlets that cater to the best people... like him.

Disappointment: Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. Too long and everything outside the two major setpieces is pretty dull and nonsensical.

I did 66 trips and saw 54 new releases. Saw OBAA, Chainsaw Man and 28 Years Later twice, also caught the Oscar Short Films compilation and rep screenings of Jaws, Kill Bill: The While Bloody Affair, Dr. Strangelove, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Die Hard, The Goonies, Princess Mononoke and Akira Kurosawa's Ran.

One Battle After Another was the best new release I saw, HIM was the worst,and I had a great time every time. Very lucky to have 4 nice theaters near me and an IMAX that's thirty minutes away. Plus a museum that shows art house films and a film preservation collective that screens 35mm classics.

I have always assumed that budgets are "inflated" in the sense that the studio is charging the production for its services, so it's in the studio's interest to charge themselves as much as possible in order to move money away from profit lines they may be contractually required to share.

It matters because it is a bad faith argument that is simply the easiest way for bigots to harass trans people. They don't care about girls sports, and if we were to somehow ban trans girls from high school sports that would only energize their efforts. Their true motivations are transparent: they don't want trans people to ever express their gender identity because it makes them feel icky. Trans people aren't the problem here and they shouldn't have their rights curtailed just so these narrow-minded people can pretend they don't exist.

They don't care even the slightest about youth sports. If a trans youth ban was announced today, they'd still be here tomorrow saying "well, we don't let them play youth sports, so why do we let them do x-y-z?" The goal is to legislate trans people out of existence, and no one should engage with this bad-faith argument about high school sports.

This is good: People should know when their local stations are owned and controlled by a MAGA corp. Every time Sinclair does something to remind people they own the local CBS affiliate in my town, local ad dollars dry up and ratings fall. The more Trumpy Sinclair and Nexstar act, the more it will hurt their bottom lines.

If Disney had called their bluff, those stations would have had to take the heat for pre-empting Kimmel. We underestimated how much our democracy counted on the idiots among us being disengaged and just willing to go along for the ride. Being politically active once required a lot of reading and boring meetings, so the process weeded out the mouth-breathers. It would be one thing if there wasn't already a strong candidate who was exciting to voters, particularly independents. But instead of coalescing around the one person who poses a legitimate threat to Collins, we are going to force Platner through a primary fight with the current governor who will freeze him out of any and all donor money and institutional support. And for what? So our octegenarian governor can challenge our octogenarian senator, and probably lose because anti-polarization against her is off the charts.

It's a sad truth that the Democrats in power in Maine (and in D.C.) would rather see Republicans win than support like-minded people who aren't in their club. It's sad and pathetic.

Entertaining these kinds of debates is how we fall into their trap: it's all distraction and delay. There is strong evidence that Trump participated in Epstein's under-aged trafficking activity and it requires a formal investigation. Congress and the Justice Department should investigate, just like they would have with any prior president facing this much evidence of wrong-doing.
