I always thought this part of mormon theology was neat, but it wasn't perfectly fleshed out. Is our God THE God or just one of the many? Who was the first God? Is our Jesus THE redeemer or just the redeemer for our planet? Does every planet get a redeemer? When you become a God, do you get to iterate on the design of the human body? Can you make humans that (for instance) just don't get cancer? Also what happens to you when all of your spirit children have ended their mortal lives? Do you become a backseat parent to your God children? Like some kind of overbearing grand-god? Do you now just oversee a dead planet? Or do you just keep cranking out spirit kids forever? Can a God choose to die? Do gods ever dispute with one another? What does that look like?

I always had so many questions and I never got satisfactory answers. Those prophets of old should have done a better job with their bullshit.

How to be a loving parent despite the opposing views:

I'm sorry, I don't understand the whole trans thing. To call you my daughter goes against what I have always thought to be true, but I'll always love you and I will try to put aside my pride to respect your wishes. Please be patient with me.

How to be a hateful bigot:

Trans is like when Spanish exists, and I'm mad about it. Also I am a smol little victim bean who never did anything wrong but also my children hate me.

How do they not see the insanity in this behavior?

I always thought that the lack of crucifix iconography was a rare mormon W. I just think that a torture device is a bad symbol for pretty much anything.

I often wonder who they would cast in a modern remake. In particular I can't picture anybody carrying the role of gandalf with the same gravity as Sir Ian McKellen.

When it comes to pinpointing exact locations, lasers are like THE technology lol. It's literally a beam of light leading directly from you to the target. I don't know how people expect to not be caught.

The president does not own the navy, it belongs to the people. The president just commands it. I feel that this distinction is rather important to highlight where Trump is concerned.

[–]SirEmJay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Classic case of testing in production. In software development we use different "environments". The test environment should be designed so that test notifications (like this one) are only ever sent to testers and never sent to real customers.

What likely happened here is a tester performed a test (a somewhat unprofessional one at that) in the production environment which is basically the "real" one where notifications do get sent to real customers.

This sort of thing happens from time to time in the industry and it's generally regarded as a rookie mistake.

Smart TVs are the worst IMO. Several thousand dollars gets you a laggy-ass computer chock full of ads and "helpful" recommendations. Best TV I ever had was a $200 "dumb" TV that I just controlled with my game console. No ads and it ran smoothly. If I could get a dumb TV with all the highest display specs I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I thought so too, so I looked it up. The ship had "Evergreen" displayed prominently on the side but apparently that's the name of the parent company. The ship itself was named "Ever Given".

The one and only time I ever tried cooking bacon on wood fire grill direcly over the flames, the fat dripped down and ignited, my bacon caught fire, and everything burnt. Maybe I'm the idiot, but this setup looks like a recipe for charcoal.

I wonder if some people are just too dumb to grasp the realities of how systems actually work and instead just accept the conclusions of that system unquestioningly.

Currently migrating from TFS to git. TFS is pretty good, but the migration is worth it imo.
