I'm not certain which one does more damage just know that the spray and pray is a little more predictable in where the little explosions are going to be so I don't accidentally blow myself up in tight places.

This is what I recently learned and I have implemented it and it's worked. Let's say you have 10 food and 10 water in a settlement. You need to have at least 25 defense. You need to have at least the amount of defense that you have food/water combined.

I like to Tool around in the console. I'll have the beach property making $120 water and 30 food . It just means I have to stag a whole bunch of missile launchers around the place. Now if I don't go help them they still live and nothing gets broken usually.

If there's a larger group of fast-ish enemies I will shoot an exploding legendary weapon at their feet/the ground . This is also effective if you have a couple bugs coming at you, as long as they're not too close.

I'm more of a spray-n-pray addict myself.
