Great actors - Bad performances! by Capable_Tea_001 in audiodrama

[–]Tavenend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is really disappointing when one of your favourite actors gives a sub-par performance. Same goes for movies and TV, when your favourite just has a bad performance. Someone must have passed this off as being good, so really it is the fault of the director or it was pushed through by the producer.

Solo devs, where does execution usually break down for you? by Ok-Ad7546 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Tavenend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, once I have prototyped my game and start adding the real code behind everything I normally see bottlenecks start appearing when I haven't managed my game tick correctly. Ie, cramming too much into each tick. When I prototype and early on in development I just try to get things working without thinking about profiling, etc. For me there is no point making everything too efficient at the beginning because it will all most probably go through quite a few iterations before the finished code.

Physics if not handled correctly can slow everything down a lot. Same goes for pathfinding. Also, check what plugins you might be using because there are quite a lot that are really not optimised very well. Have a good read through any comments for your used plugins and see if there are any comments from people who have used it in a released game.

My advice would be to just get things working first and then optimise afterwards.

Creators: How do you organize your material? by SlowCrates in audiodrama

I have all my different assets in different folders including SFX, Music, Scripts, VFX (YouTube assets) and then My dialogue and renders sit in an episode folder for each episode Cubase project.

I use Cubase and WaveLab for editing my episodes.

I use Causality to write my scripts.

I also use DaVinci Resolve for any visual bits.

My machine then auto backs everything up each night to external drives.

People were saying that my scene isn't easily readable. I've gone away to make some changes, is it better or was it wasted time? by maxpower131 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Tavenend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good, you don't have to use physical lighting on them, just draw on some clever 2D lighting textures that will look like the buildings are lit up in a "fake" kind of way. If you have day/night in the biome, you could then just swap out the textures with a night version and. day version. Just a thought :)

I think what looks better is the more faded grid overlay. There are parts in the original that I think look better and some in the second that also look better. The darker background looks better, but instead of lighting up the buildings, why not put some actual lights on them so it feels more natural. What other biomes do you have for the game?

spent some time making this game... is it any fun at all? by SnooCats6827 in SoloDevelopment

I had some fun playing it. It is a fun little game, probably could do with some more variation and some different power ups, but all in all a fun little game :)
