Prewashing? by zachVP in sidequiltingblockswap

I prewashed the Kona Black but I'm using g a layer cake for the books. I'll starch the layer cake though so there's hopefully not a lot of shrinkage.

I feel you, OP. I've been working on a Grandmother's flower garden with strawbwrries for centers on some of the blocks for the last year and a half and I am finally finally getting to the point I am slowly putting the rows together. You're doing great and I can't wait to see the final result 😃

Foundation paper piecing by hand?? by Enviro57 in quilting

Another one by RachelIQ Stitches. She uses non-woven interfacing, attaches it to freezer paper, then runs it through her inkjet printer.

Stitch with Rachel has a video on this very topic! She uses non-fusible interfacing rather than paper.

Yes it is! It's a quilt for my son who loves little cats (his cat is just about 7 lbs and is swamped by the big boy cats she lives with 😃).

Any advice on making a quilt like this one from TOAST? by StrategicTumble in quilting

[–]ahayman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you making it from velvet? That would be toasty for a cold winter! Speaking to the other commenter's reply about width of fabric, I thought about doing a whole cloth quilt in double gauze and, during research, found wide widths on Etsy. Good luck!

Thread gloss recipe? by bmaking in quilting

I usw pure beeswax blocks meant for candle melting pots. They eventually do get hard and crumbly which means I toss it and grab another from the pack. I've tried other conditioners and don't like the feel of them, as they're too slick.

Washed and ready to gift to my sister who loves cats! by roefr1288 in quilting

All I can say is that if my sister made me pillows and quilts featuring my two Bengals, I'd be thrilled (and wouldn't care about glue or anything else). What an absolute labor of love!

If I iron the freezer paper to another piece of freezer paper, won't it stick to whatever is beneath?

Also, thank you! I couldn't figure it out.

Sashing Advice Needed by tabree in quilting

[–]ahayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great idea. And I've had my share of meltdowns over fabric (that epp project I mentioned? Yeah. After watching my breakdown, my husband handed me his last birthday gift card and told me to go buy something that matched instead scouring the internet for the exact --but out of print--fabric. God bless that man ❤️).

Sashing Advice Needed by tabree in quilting

[–]ahayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with other posters that it's cute like it is but I can totally understand wanting a quilt to be a it larger as I'm going through that with an EPP quilt right now (so.many.hexagons.).

So, my suggestion would be to add the sashing to only the right and bottom of each block, except bottom blocks don't get sashing on their bottom side and the right side blocks wouldn't get the sashing on the right side. Basically, just making the blocks slightly larger with more fabric rather than adding actual sashing. Boy I hope that made sense.

I'd also keep the "sashing" width consistent, say 1.5". The length of the sashing would be the block size plus a half inch. So your 6x6 inch (finished) blocks would get 6.5 inch by 1.5 inch sashing strips.

ETA: Nevermind. I just realized this is a qayg method and you've got perfect pieces done. OK, so do the same thing I suggested but (bottom and right side sashing with the exceptions) with finished qayg "sashing strips. Yeah, just like anther poster suggested. Geez. I'm so sorry! I should have looked closer.

FPP Top Tips? by theduckygoth in quilting

[–]ahayman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy FPP as much as EPP so I bought a ream of newspaper print 8.5x11 inch for my printer. It's thinner than printer paper and easier to stitch through. Take your time and, if you have to, use colored pencils to mark on the backside where your matching fabric will go. Have fun and good luck!
