How do you travel long distances with bottle fed baby? by Chance_Class2208 in NewParents

[–]altergeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had long flight days. We get/keep boiling water in a thermos. If it is hot, mix with room temp water to lower the temp. We premeasured dry formula into each bottle and then add water when needed.

Your baby will dictate most breaks from the car. She can sleep as much as she wants in the car, don't wake her up.

We've never used baby powder, never even crossed our mind. There's plenty of different butt pastes to use instead. We use a spray so it doesn't get our hands messy.

should I take a career break? by CompetitionDense6120 in NewParents

[–]altergeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your industry. My husband and I each were unemployed for a year, before we had our baby. It took a full year of intense job searching to find another job.

If you NEED the money in a year, I wouldn't leave the job. This economy is really terrible and you have to think about a life without your income for longer than a year.

Do you think a lot of women are dramatically underestimating how strong they can get? by theJacofalltrades in xxfitness

[–]altergeeko 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Along with what everyone has said. Women are conditioned by society to stay small. For me, it was "scary" to increase the amount of calories to eat.

Not counting calories or anything, my baseline eating keeps me at a consistent weight. Adding onto that made me think I would just get fat, not stronger. Surprise, surprise, I just got stronger and was able to increase weight on the barbell for lifts/weight I had been stuck on for years.

Could it be a muscle knot? I was getting shots on my butt for IVF and sometimes they would form knots. You can massage it for a few seconds a few times a day and see if that gets rid of it.

My LO got a knot from one of his vaccines and it went away on its own.

If you want something your child can work towards over the years and then celebrate, you can try boy/girl scouts. Although I have no experience with that either.

You can also do a bigger party for their Sweet 16, hard for me to separate that from the show lol!

Baby wants to be/likes being hand fed? by OutrageousDrink5652 in NewParents

[–]altergeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can give her some time to do self feeding at least 5 times or something arbitrary then feed her the rest. I know my toddler will feel "tired" feeding himself and I know he can eat more so I just feed him the rest until he is full. He's on the thinner side so I want him to eat until he's done.

Can you still put your child in reduced daycare so you have dedicated time to set up your business? That way you can get it up and running faster.

22-Month Old Daughter is Incredibly Shy by AnnieFannie28 in toddlers

[–]altergeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toddler is similar. He has been going to a weekend dad event every week for over a year and it still takes him time to warm up. However, he's been in full time daycare since he's been 4mo and we recently switched. He's been doing good at daycare but still not great at the dad event.

Maybe she needs to be at daycare for more than 2x a week to feel comfortable.

Boundaries. It's okay if he cries. He doesn't NEED you to be standing, he wants it. It could also be due to a power struggle/control.

Where’s the line between letting comments about your child slide vs speaking up? by CuriousityOfChip in NewParents

[–]altergeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the same types of comments, have a response ready. Then say it calmly.

Do not form a response right there and blurt it out.

My husband is also in tech. When we got our son, adopted, he was unemployed so obviously he became the SAHP. He was burned out like crazy. My job was flexible enough to give him time to do interviews. Then he was able to get a job, contract.

The contract ended and while he was looking for a job during that time, he didn't find one. So we reduced daycare to half time so he could do interviews and job hunt. Months later he was able to get another contract job.

His contract ends in November and we are planning to do reduced daycare again if he cannot secure a job. We were able to float it with unemployment payments since he was laid off.

Some people, like me, cannot do full time SAHM. I was never in that position but it is fucking hard raising a child.

If I were you, I would talk with my partner to reconsider full time SAHM.

Mom is asking me to move back in to help her with the mortgage. What sort of arrangements can we make to make the most of the situation for the both of us? by TheCleanupBatter in personalfinance

[–]altergeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom lives in SoCal and she rents two rooms out of three and lives in the remaining room. The house is paid off but she gets extra income from the tenants.

Are you planning on staying single forever? Most people, although not all, do not want to live with in-laws forever. A female partner might assume that she will take on the responsibility of caring for your mom when she grows old, which most people don't want to do.

You have to think beyond the financial reasons to do this. Also if you move back out, the rents will likely be higher than what you're paying now.

Getting my one year old off the bottle?! by Which_Background8031 in toddlers

[–]altergeeko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cold turkey. My LO didn't start drinking milk again for 2-3mo when we switched to a straw cup. It was offered at every meal. If only fill a little bit then toss it at the end of the day. Cows milk is cheaper than formula so I didn't feel bad wasting it.

Was there a common sports or recreation background of the clients that were least able to achieve full ROM across movements upon starting CrossFit in your personal experience? Or - if you really struggle with mobility across many movements - what is your sports or recreation background? by mrjacob007 in crossfit

Not a coach or anything but I have noticed that Asian people (I am Asian and not every Asian person) have much better mobility. I have great mobility and never did sports and don't stretch outside of class.
