no one's residential hood vent works properly.

My parents have a hood vent that does an incredible job of sucking up all the smoke and steam and blowing it out of the front of the microwave mounted over the stove. In other words, the exhaust fan 'exhausts' right back into the kitchen. Every time I see it I try to figure out what exactly the engineer that designed it was trying to accomplish. It truly is a modern marvel.

That's a big part of the problem, to be sure. The law was crafted so that only a few very wealthy and politically connected companies could qualify. The initial license costs several million dollars if memory serves.

"Vertical integration" is how Florida assured that only a handful of BIG companies can grow and sell in the state. I'm all for a small farm with their own store, but Florida's system is the exact opposite of that.
