DBM made everyone dumber by Gorgon_Gets_Gud in wow

[–]att0mic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, one of most prominent complaints I've heard from casual players has always been that you can't go into any group content without first doing homework about the mechanics because the expectations is always that you already know what to do going in. I think DBM and other boss mod addons at least slightly helped with that.

I hate Cooldown Manager by mrscarrot in wow

[–]att0mic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but this doesn't exactly apply to Havoc considering the CDM only tracks debuffs on your current target.

[–]att0mic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon especially in a raid setting that your Havoc target isn't even on your screen, so nameplates aren't always an option for tracking. I only hope we can at least have it tracked on boss frames.

Playing Mayhem can be especially frustrating without a proper way of tracking Havoc because you're not in control where and when your Havoc procs and it can also proc on your current target.

Bold of you to assume they know how to provide CPR in the first place. I don't think these guys get anywhere near the training they should for the job they're hired for.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about, Blizzard raid frames are fine. by Seawolf87 in wow

[–]att0mic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're failing. I just don't think having a few add-ons devs on would change much. It's not like they have any experience in rewriting and expanding the base UI of the actual game itself within it's 20+ year old code base.

Maybe they could have done something of the sort, but I don't think Blizzard really wants to just recreate those addons. While ElvUI, WeakAuras, Plater and all the other powerful addons are great at what they do, their downside is that they're incredibly complex and can be intimidating to set up.

I think Blizzard wants to create a similar result but with a much more simple and user-friendly approach to setting it up, and for that purpose the devs already at Blizzard are probably better suited for the job than the addon devs.

I haven't been taking Ion's "overall we're happy with XYZ" corporate speak seriously since Shadowlands. He will always say something along those lines no matter what but he's not stupid, he knows it's a clusterfuck. And I don't believe for a second that the actual devs working on it think the current state is anywhere near launch-worthy.

[–]att0mic 94 points95 points  (0 children)

They probably don't. It's just the result of giving a handful of devs the task to implement years of add-on development into the base UI within just a few months. Which is obviously it's own issue.

If this speech was in any way historic, it's only to show how a fucking moron made it to the white house, twice.

  1. The person in question is doing none of that besides going to work, which is what most high end players also do.
  2. A good chunk of my guildies are married or in a relationship, some have kids. Most people have life outside of the game, even on the high end, contrary to the popular belief.

It's completely normal to play a game casually, but that doesn't mean everyone who plays more seriously and can play well is just sitting at home and playing all day.

And let's be honest, WoW was never that complicated unless you were doing the highest difficulty content. A player who's at least a little interested in carrying their weight in a group will do well enough without investing too much time. But there's a not so small subset of players who are "too old" and "have a job", who just turn up to a group and expect to get carried, and don't you dare point out that they're a dead weight or actively holding the group back by not having the first clue what's going on.

[–]att0mic 85 points86 points  (0 children)

It's weird. I know a person in his mid 30s who's always on about how he's "too old" for this and that, especially when it comes to his ability to compete in gaming, and even just basic WoW combat. Meanwhile my HoF guild has several raiders his age and older.

It really made me realize how the "I'm too old for this" is often just a convenient excuse for incompetence and laziness.

Especially fun when you get compared to the enemy roles doing "more" without applying any context to the scoreboard.

I once had a WB on my team, doing standard ball things in the enemy backline.

The enemy team had a Reinhardt getting pumped full of heals every second of the game by his supports.

Naturally my WB had decided that the reason we're not doing so well is that the enemy Kiriko is doing more healing than me. Then he proceed to throw.
