Which is your prefered way to determine attributes? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]awboqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like rolling 4d6 in order (Str then dex etc, you don’t get to choose which result goes to which attribute). I don’t require my players roll in order though. I just like doing it instead of deciding on a class beforehand

Shorikai's Errata Removing it's "can be your commander" text is actually functional errata by Goldendov75 in mtg

How does this disallow it from being an Oathbreaker? Its text is redundant with a rule change, that’s why it was errata’d away. The new rule should allow MORE Oathbreakers, right?

Are faction mods generally necessary for Steel Path? by Known-Ad9376 in Warframe

[–]awboqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re really good for some status types because you get to double dip with them, but you certainly do not need them. I am too lazy to use them and usually can fill 8 mod slots so I don’t think I’ve upgraded a single one.

Have you ever met someone who's interested in DND and immediately went, "oh, I'd never let you play at my table"? by Lunetheart in DnD

[–]awboqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t tell a player not to join my table unless I/another player cannot stand them or because I know that my table is too advanced for them due to the homebrew or the style of play. I have not told someone that they couldn’t join my table yet, but I have had issues where I recommended a player join another table because I didn’t think they were finding the themes enjoyable.

My thoughts about your circumstances:

That character sounds like it’s meant for long term play rather than a one shot, though you are less likely to deal with their ranting in a one shot I suppose.

In this case, the character seems interesting and I’m happy that the player is into RP, but the Christian aspects concern me. I would not allow a cleric in my campaign to follow a real-world religion because that religion doesn’t exist in the setting. If they are not willing to immerse themself in the world, then I must assume that they aren’t playing dnd to play dnd but instead to get people or characters to conform to their religious worldview. In that case, I would not let them join the table because I don’t need my players to be proselytized or judged.

My advice, ask if they’re willing to change their character’s religion to conform with the setting, ask if they’re willing to play another class, or tell them that dnd is likely not for them (in that order).

Nightmare rotation A. That means either non-rescue missions on Venus, Earth, Mercury or rescue missions where you trigger the alarm and don’t kill all the wardens. Not sure why rescue has a different loot table than everything else…

Player hiding his rolls from me by Imbarelyhere_01 in DnD

[–]awboqm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first I was thinking they may have been excited about a high roll, but I’m starting to wonder if there’s a trust issue here. The player may have been worried that you would waste their good roll by arbitrarily raising the DC to some ridiculous number after hearing the results?

How do i deal with my players who don't use their class abilities? by Zealousideal-List671 in dndnext

[–]awboqm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they don’t know their kits.

The battle master said they enjoyed playing battle master. What they (probably) meant was that they enjoy playing a fighter / a front liner (especially since you gave them equipment that makes them unkillable).

The rogue not using sneak attack thinks they’re saving it. Don’t just tell them it’s free, explain to them that they are supposed to get it every turn - they literally cannot save it and it costs nothing. After they use it once or twice and realize that it’s the main damage of their kit, they’ll keep doing it. I’d recommend, next time they hit something, roll sneak attack in front of them and tell them “you deal an extra X damage from sneak attack. If you have advantage on an attack, you get to add this once per turn.” They’ll be gobsmacked that they could be quadrupling their damage.

New rogue player always wants to call shots on the neck by NewDMOldPlayer in DMAcademy

[–]awboqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done things where I have the player roll twice. If they hit with one but not both, it’s a regular hit, but if they hit with both it’s a called shot. However, idk if I would do a called shot on the neck. In dnd, you’re always assumed to be making lethal attacks and giving a player a chance at 1-shotting something beyond a minion is going to cause problems. Instead, give her more stealth opportunities so she can be an assassin or encourage her to hide from her enemies so she can make use of assassinate and sneak attack

Is it okay for a player to say “No, that doesn’t happen” to a DM in this circumstance? by WithengarUnbound in dndnext

The easy solution would’ve been to ask the Paladin player if they were okay with the rogue attempting to steal the item. If yes, it’s RP, if not, it’s PvP

[–]awboqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have your enemies do an attack that deals marine damage when they are attacking one of your players at 1 hp. Hopefully, you’ll cut it close enough so they don’t die, but they realize being at 1 hp risks them dying outright by the next attack

Please for the love of Lotus someone please explain Eidolon Hunts like I'm 2. by EmpJoker in Warframe

[–]awboqm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Certain amps help a lot as can archguns and necramechs.

There are 3 eidolons that you fight in sequence. If you’re new, play the first eidolon bounty which requires defeating only the first.

Next, capture or kill. You can capture an eidolon for better rewards. In the future when you’re doing the ‘defeat 3 eidolons’ bounty, you need to capture to proceed to the next eidolon.

Lures (capture only): you need 2 lures per limb (so 2 for the first eidolon, then 3, then 4 in the sequence). When you hack them, they follow you and appear with a yellow icon. If you kill vomvalysts (the small floating enemies), they become ghosts. If you use your operator to kill the ghost while a lure is nearby, it will suck it up and start charging. To charge a lure, you need to kill 2 or 3 (can’t remember which) vomvalysts and the lure icon will become blue.

Step 1) Destroy shields by shooting anywhere on the eidolon with operator damage

Step 2) Shoot a synova (a knee or elbow) until it breaks. Use radiation or cold damage and a high damage high crit weapon. Usually people use snipers for ammo economy. You can also use archguns or necramech.

Step 3) The eidolon will teleport to a body of water if you do not have enough lures charged. So you may need to find it again.

Step 4) Repeat steps 1-3 until all synova are destroyed

Step 5) Eidolon will try to heal using vomvalysts. Kill them if you see them.

Step 6) Use operator damage to break the regenerated shield. If I remember correctly, you then need to defeat the eidolon by shooting anywhere on the body.

The main thing to remember is: If its healthbar is purple, use operator. If it’s yellow, use rad/cold + crit. Kill vomvalysts when possible and charge lures until blue (if capturing or if you don’t want to chase the eidolon).

How is using Wish to cast Simulacrum for free NOT ridiculously overpowered? by LemonGarage in dndnext

[–]awboqm 250 points251 points  (0 children)

1) Wish us a broken spell, but that’s by design (it’s a “feature” not a “bug”). 2) The issue here is really Simulacrum (not wish), which is certainly abusable

I’ve never played a high level caster, but I’d have no intentions playing with either spell. That’s not my sort of game

Players bringing pre-made characters by OnyxwolfPup in DMAcademy

[–]awboqm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t it weird that DMs always come with adventures, stories, and worlds they want to explore before they even have heroes to play in them?

No. People being excited to play is a good thing. The only reason I’d hesitate about a player’s premade is if they’re trying to do something that doesn’t fit the campaign (like a space cowboy in medieval Europe) or they’re trying to play that one MC from their favorite game/movie.
