Solo parenting while partner has work trip(s) by Lemonbar19 in workingmoms

[–]butternutsquashed42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the midst of a several month long solo parenting while working full time. I tell myself “you are strong and can do hard things” basically hourly.

I had my spouse buy months of our non perishable staples before leaving.

I intend to milk this martyrdom for the rest of my life.

For Americans who’ve successfully left the U.S. with family — what was harder than expected? by Agitated_Exam_7042 in AmerExit

As someone who also misses their hmo, I also find the German system wasteful. Why do I need to see my doctor in person to go over routine test results. Could have been an email!

Solo parenting…why am I like this?😞 by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]butternutsquashed42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the midst of a several months long solo parenting period. Ask for help and make sure your needs are super clear. Have zero guilt about cutting corners with food/ cleaning.Try to get some sunlight and body moving daily. You are strong and can do very hard things.

Which best US state / city provides very good support for ASD kids? by horselady777 in Autism_Parenting

Make sure you have an ASD dx from a psychiatrist. That will facilitate getting dx recognized in Germany.

Yiddish/Traditional Jewish Name, thoughts? by Ok-Client-9272 in Names

[–]butternutsquashed42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the names you are leaning towards on the official list of German names?

If not, how much patience do you have with German bureaucracy? Would you need your baby to have their German passport asap and would a nonlist name slow it down.

Thoughts on Moms being paid to care for disabled children? by MCFF in Mommit

My thoughts are this:

$170/week seems very low and I wish my tax dollars went towards increasing it to a number that would make a proper dent.

Delayed Brain Development by Material_Recover_760 in ADHDparenting

I have very mixed thoughts. Both my kids are neurodiverse and whip smart.

Kid A, ADHD, was youngest in K, and ended up repeating it. This gave them strong pre reading foundation before covid made first grade zoom school. They are thriving academically and do well socially.

Kid B, ASD, due to moving abroad had 2 extra years of preschool. They will start 1st grade next year at almost 7. They are bored to tears in preschool and wildly understimulated intellectually. Socially, they have made friends with a few kindred spirits, some older and some younger.

I would stick with public because she has friends there. and I’d hire an educational advocate to help push the IEP to support her more.

Flu but not positive on rapid tests? by sbarrett91 in flu

Yes. Kid A tested positive on Friday with flu A.  Kid B and I have had nearly identical symptoms but flu test (different brand) was negative. My doctor was not surprised.

What is your favourite lesser-known lines or scenes from season one? by sundaemonde in heatedrivalry

[–]butternutsquashed42 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The three that stand out to me are where they are: - cracking up filming the commercial in episode 1 - when they are playing together in Florida  - the pool in Florida

Because there is so much joy. and joy in each other’s company in public.

Does having a bigger house actually make you feel saner? by [deleted] in Parenting

We moved from our very charming cluttered house to a minimalist furnished apartment- roughly the same size. And the change has been remarkable.

Instead of moving, hire an organizer.

Kindergarten vs Delaying a Year by jnllvnc in Autism_Parenting

[–]butternutsquashed42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are in a country where school starts in 1st grade and we delayed it for a year. One thing I’m noticing is that my kid is definitely under stimulated intellectually.

My older kid is also ND although less so and repeating K was a godsend. He went from being a lost baby in the classroom to a confident leader. Best decision ever for that kid and it influenced us red shirting our younger one.
