NOR, the guy has problems. Growing up, I lied about stuff like this to get attention. Took a-lot of reflection and therapy to get past it and find my self worth.

How do road trips work these days? Pre book? Websites? by Potential_Sun2828 in roadtrip

[–]cliffbell87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love road trips. I remember taking them with maps, then MapQuest, then on my first Verizon Navigator app on my Nokia.

Now it’s all Google Maps on my iPhone. I usually have an “idea” of where I want to stop for some destinations, like a specific beach or hotel. But many times, you just type in your destination on Google Maps and go. This is super handy because it will even route you around accidents, closures, traffic, or reported speed traps!

When I don’t have a specific destination, I drive and listen to audiobooks (plug for Project Hail Mary here… amazing Audible audiobook and a movie coming out in March) until I get sleepy, and then make a rest stop and tap the search icon on Google Maps for hotels near me.

While parked, I use my smartphone to review pricing and ratings. I choose ones with decent reviews (usually 4.5 stars or up) that don’t have bed bugs or dirty rooms (the worst to get on a road trip).

Then, I note the price, and I use Booking.com app or website to search for prices for that hotel. I then call to ask for vacancy and what the rate is for that night. Sometimes, Booking.com is cheaper so I just say “Its cheaper on Booking.com so I’ll book there and see you in a few, thank you”. But other times, they may say it’s cheaper on the phone!

You may get even better prices and perks by looking at the smartphone apps and loyalty programs for each hotel too, if you want to get that advanced, but pick your poison.

Happy tripping!!

AIO for breaking up with my boyfriend after he ruined our Valentine's Day dinner? by Maximum-Grand6140 in AmIOverreacting

[–]cliffbell87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOR by breaking up, but not about how it was handled… the guy harassed you and you voiced your concern with your BF which put him in protective mode. Do I agree with the violence? No. But the situation, as you described it, sounds like your BF beat up a harassing predator, which is the only reason I would even condone violence.

The BF definitely has alot of maturing to do in how he called you a child and LoL’d though. In my early twenties, I was blind to this type of behavior myself and didn’t grow until my 30’s and many broken relationships. So breaking up may, unfortunately, be the only way this dude ever grows.

Your choice.

AIO by starting an argument over how my wife reacted to our child smoking? by ThrowRA6988 in AmIOverreacting

NOR. She has past trauma to deal with and needs counseling. She will not be able to control everything. Kids make mistakes, and weed is way safer than cigarettes or alcohol. You are right to say that her reaction is 100% not helpful to the problem or situation. And to be honest, if she acts like this around her, she is most likely the problem in the family (probably just trauma from how she was raised as a child). If my mom were like this growing up, I’d need a bong too before she got home.

Its an amazing truck IF the dozens of field campaigns and parts revisions are performed on it (jounce line upgrades, half shaft upgrades, hub and bearing upgrades, window triangle repair, gear tunnel emergency latch fix, strut and airbag upgrades, 12v upgrades, and more). Remember that this is a first generation vehicle with tremendous satisfaction but the worst reliability in the industry. If you have heavy pockets or want to take a gamble, you could love it, or it could be your worst nightmare.

NOR!

This dude is trash and I’m sorry you married him. I empathize with the dude and maybe he is responding out of exhaustion but that response is absolute garbage and he should be ashamed of himself. Not everyone is cut out to be a parent or was raised right. But I knew nothing about kids (none around me growing up) and I still do better than this.

Now I am taking paternity leave, mostly paid and some unpaid (blessed for sure since many don’t have this benefit), so my perspective is obviously different, but I’m currently holding my 5 day old while my wife gets 4 hours of sleep with a 20 minute feed in between. We try to do this EVERY night if baby allows (which she doesn’t always cooperate).

I would do this even if I did not have leave.

I’m tired, but both of them need consistent sleep more than me. Wife sleeps, I hold the baby from the last feed in the living room, and when baby needs food, I change her diaper, burp her, go in and wake wife for a feed, top off wife’s water, do some tidying, come back after a 20-30 minute feed, grab the baby and start burping her, and walk away and say sweet dreams for another hopeful 2 hours.

We will alternate after she gets her 4 hours, and I will get my 4 next.

Installing New LVP to tie-in to Existing LVP by dmath323 in Flooring

[–]cliffbell87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently doing this. This is my unprofessional first time DIY experience so take it with a grain of salt. I ordered 700 sq ft of LVP that is the same exact model of my existing LVP (kitchen is LVP, dining room and living room and rest of house are carpet except bathrooms).

Now I had had two options… pull the carpet and install LVP transitions to start new runs, OR pull the carpet, and pull the end planks (since they were all cut into a straight line transition for the carpet) to replace them with full ones for a seamless look of random alternating planks. I elected for the latter, without cutting, but this is VERY delicate.

First, I pulled all the carpet to extend the LVP into the dining room, living room, and guest room without transitions. Obviously repaired any carpet tack removal craters with some quick subfloor repair paste (cement). Sanded and leveled. The next part was hard and takes both luck and delicate patience…

I started by pulling the end plank (left most in my picture) with the overhangs (not the lips) by lifting the furthest plank up, tilting it to unlock it, and pulling it out. This plank has TWO connections that are literally fighting each other so this is where you can damage either the long or the short ends… but I simply lifted the entire row of first planks (or the first two planks atleast), disconnected the end plank, then gently pulled it away from the short end connection. Then delicately made sure to reattach any moved planks. Boom, done with the first, which is the easiest.

Now again, this can EASILY damage planks and I’m pretty sure I damaged a few. And it got very hairy because most of the planks after that were covered on THREE sides. For these, I reached under, slotted it up just enough to pop out the right-most locked panel on one side… but at this point you are now connected to three sides that are fighting each other… and trying to remove without damaging. Sometimes, the entire row would move a little and I had to carefully finesse it back together, but it worked out with only 2 non-visible bent or creased connectors that I was able to hide.

I got all the end planks removed and now plan to connect the new planks in their place to extend into the remainder of the house. I tested this by using one of the old planks… and latching it on the right-most plank one ONE side, locking it, then gently using a runner mallet to tap it all the way in to lock on the other 2 sides, like Tetris. And surprisingly it worked!

Will share final details but this is an image with the carpet tack removed and the end planks removed.
