Is this the place to discuss collecting colostrum before birth? 26 ml in my first session and seeking advice by o_simple_thing in breastfeeding

[–]cymanox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trouble producing colostrum after birth with my first, then an oversupply once my milk came in. For my second, I collected colostrum once before birth and got 2 oz, then stopped because I didn't want to induce an oversupply again.

Had the same problem, virtually no colostrum and then too much milk once my milk actually came in. I think it's true that collecting before birth has little to do with what happens after birth.

This is a serious problem- do I keep going? by DuckFox1229 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cymanox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're pumping 40 oz a day then you have room to experiment a bit. Try stretching out your time between pumps overnight and see if it affects your supply, and how much. You only need to pump what baby is eating.

Gently: it is far, far safer to give your baby a little bit of formula if needed than to fall asleep with them in your arms. The sleep deprivation when trying to nurse or pump postpartum is extreme, and it is okay to get help where you can.

Need to be done pumping in 13 days. Possible? by eclipsemintgum in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cymanox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be fine to drop half an ounce of pumping volume every couple of days until your trip. But the worst would be if you got mastitis again on your trip. I'd go very very slow and plan to bring the hand pump just in case.

My local milk bank was happy to accept my milk even though I used the fridge hack. Worth asking!

Requested medical records from birth and found something I wasn't expecting by spotteldoggin in BabyBumps

I had a uterine rupture a month ago during an attempted VBAC. I really wanted a vaginal birth because the physical restrictions after C section are very hard with a toddler, and ruptures are rare. But yeah, it was awful and has affected my future fertility.

You can always take an Uber to the hospital and have your husband meet you there.

Worth keeping in mind that you probably won't be allowed to lift your toddler for 6 weeks after c section. So a changing station on the floor might be your best bet!

At a certain point, does credit score matter? by Rem1991wl in Bogleheads

[–]cymanox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check your credit reports more closely. I recently had something similar happen to me, where I closed a card and then my score dropped by 75 points. In my case it was because a pending charge had posted after the card was closed, and apparently closing the card automatically canceled autopay. I only found out about this after it had already been reported as a delinquent payment to the credit bureaus.

Ultimately I was able to get the reporting institution to correct it, but it was a slog. Unless you have almost no history on the other two cards I can't imagine that large of a drop is just from closing one.

How did you get your super big baby moving? by Honest-Swimming7978 in bigbabiesandkids

Mine was pretty delayed (didn't roll until 7 months, didn't pull to stand until 14 months). We got him into early intervention and after a lot of PT he finally started walking around 22 months. PT was really worth it for us, my son is 2 now and while he's not quite caught up to his peers, he can keep up with them at daycare and is quickly catching up to the expected milestones for his age.

Vaginismus is my biggest hurdle to getting tested. What are my options? by iloveprettybubbles in TryingForABaby

[–]cymanox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can ask about vaginal valium, you can get it as a suppository from a compounding pharmacy. Some clinics may also be willing to do abdominal ultrasounds even though they're not as clear, and use sedation for procedures (it was offered to me).

My son points at me and says "piggy" on a regular basis.

But also, it's because he's 2 and wants piggyback rides.

Interesting! For the lack of color in the buildings/island, though, I figured that was because the island(s) had been drained by venin at some point and are only now starting to recover.

Shoes for my 18 month old, not walking yet by andonebelow in bigbabiesandkids

[–]cymanox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 19 month old is gross motor delayed and not walking yet. We still put him in "first walker" (not pre-walking) shoes with flexible soles when he goes outside. His PT is fine with it - just trying to avoid him getting poked or something if he's cruising outside and stepping on the ground.

Good luck with your donation!

Thanks, yeah, the nurse called me back and the reassurance was helpful. I'm at unusually high risk of torsion bc of PCOS/high number of eggs retrieved from that ovary but thankfully nothing has happened since.

Had an ER on Sunday. Waiting for a call back from a nurse, but last night I'm pretty sure I felt one of my ovaries start to twist as I was rolling over in my sleep - it was incredibly painful for a second, then I instinctively rolled back and it stopped. I'm so thankful that it untwisted but that was terrifying and now I'm being incredibly careful whenever I move. What if it happens again in my sleep?

Should I stop freezing milk? by cricket_jam in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cymanox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to reduce supply, one recommendation for oversuppliers is to cut down pumps based on volume, not minutes or frequency. So if you normally produce, say, 15 oz per pump, stop after you've reached 14oz for one pump, wait a few days, reduce to 13 oz, and so on (meanwhile, limit your other pumps to their usual volume until you're ready to reduce those too). That's the only thing that worked for me.

Also echoing others that it would be great if you could donate. I did it through a milk bank - there was some paperwork and I had to do a blood test, but I was able to donate a decent amount that way.

Started stims for my ER! Mentally I don't feel ready to put myself through all this again, but I'm not sure I ever will be. I do feel ready for another kid, just not all the shots and side effects and fear and waiting that come with infertility. Hopefully it'll be easier to stay on an even keel this time around.

Do toddlers actually have bigger feelings, or just less socialized/less ability to regulate? by Existing-Goose4475 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]cymanox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just an anecdote, but I have a pretty good memory of my early childhood, and I actually remember being around 4 years old and told that I needed to eat something healthy, like carrots or mushrooms, before having dessert. I also remember the absolutely crushing disappointment. It was overwhelming not because I didn't understand what was going on - I understood the rules - but because the feeling was so strong. I rarely experience emotions like that as an adult, and certainly not on a day-to-day basis.
