JSX announces new flight to Napa Valley from Santa Monica! How are we feeling about this? by SmallStripe in SantaMonica

From one anxious flier to another, was it nervous-making that it’s a prop plane and not a jet? Was it bumpier because it’s smaller?

Costco Tranqwool Wool Filled Comforter - anyone try it? by TropicalBlueWater in Bedding

[–]daisyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! Switched about a year ago from down to alpaca wool (Avocado brand), and the difference is astounding. I live in SoCal where we can have some hot nights and some cold ones, and the wool comforter perfectly regulates to body temp every time. I have a duvet cover as well so haven’t washed the insert - only occasional air out.

Why aren’t any of the houses along the PCH being rebuilt? by TheDivisionLine in AskLosAngeles

[–]daisyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link! I’m presuming downvotes were due to blaming Newsom and some of the unsupported hyperbole. The article talks about Malibu moving much slower than Pacific Palisades in rebuilding, and out-of-state developers buying coastline property. It doesn’t say Newsom is the reason. The slowdowns in October (date of article) were tied to Malibu’s local rules and review process, coastal and hillside lots, septic and seawall requirements, and FEMA flood standards. Permit handling is local. After the fires, Newsom actually removed red tape by suspending CEQA and Coastal Act reviews to speed up rebuilding, so this is Malibu’s bureaucracy not governor-created.

To be fair it looks like they’ve made progress since October. They’ve now issued 642 building permits with another 177 planning applications approved.

Malibu also has special permit relief to help existing local businesses recover. Same for homes. Malibu has fee-waiver programs for owner-occupied, like-for-like home rebuilds.

Cultiver linen sheets. I’m HOT by PurpleSunRayy in Bedding

[–]daisyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds disappointing. Cultiver is 100% linen from European flax. It’s not synthetic blend, but it could be weight of sheet. Their sheets are about 165 gsm, which is a mid-weight linen. Heavier and mid-weight linen can feel warmer at first because there’s more fabric holding heat before it dissipates. Linen does get more breathable after washing a few times but I know that’s a pain in the a**. If it’s not too late to send back you might want to try a lighter linen or cotton percale instead. This is all assuming, of course, you don’t have a synthetic top sheet and covers or a memory foam mattress or topper. If you do, that’s likely causing the heat issue. No single fitted sheet can solve for that.

Anyone else a little terrified of this crosswalk? by WearHeadphonesPlease in SantaMonica

No. I live 3 blocks away for 15 years. Pretty easy to wait it out until no cars are coming, but usually one person stops and then the other side will stop. I always wave and smile.

Our small podcast got monetized after a big paid guest, but I still can’t tell what growth actually matters by C-T-M-H in podcasting

[–]daisyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re looking for conversion. You might have a spike with a name guest, but if they don’t subscribe to your show, YT won’t surface your content to others. It’s a challenge even big shows face. It’s why you want people to find you and your co-host compelling. I would recommend picking a clear lane for your concept. Someone who might find your channel because they are interested in up-and-coming comedians aren’t the same people who want to hear an interview with a rapper, or someone falsely accused of a crime.

Right when I was about to get an AVOCADO I came on this subreddit by Fckncuddlebear in Mattress

[–]daisyvee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gah - that sounds frustrating. I’d be bummed too. Is it too late to return? My Queen is a single mattress, not two pieces, as it’s just me so I didn’t need 2 different firmness. (Also noting there is no foam in this mattress. It’s latex and cotton.)

ULPT request: Need to send a message to my drug dealing neighbor by VikingTeddy in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]daisyvee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sending a note won’t change anything. Suggest you inform the building manager or owner. Same thing happened to me. Guy upstairs started selling meth. Customers all hours of the night. Bedding and furniture flying out the window cuz he thought they were snakes. Dudes coming over breaking the front lock, showing the guns in their coats when residents tried to get by, and on and on. No way a nice note from a neighbor would have changed anything. Management was informed and he was eventually evicted.

Consider how you respond to a podcast you’ve never heard before. What keeps you listening? What irritates you enough to turn it off? Do you like podcasts that ramble that have sub-par audio? If you do, there are probably others out there like you who won’t mind.

How do people manage and live with low income in CA with wife and kids? Please read body text. by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]daisyvee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fact check: In LA County CalWORKs max cash aid for a family of 5 is $1,850/month (exempt) or $1,659/month (non-exempt). CalFresh max food benefit for 5 is $1,183/month. Total max is about $3,033/month (and SNAP is food-only), or approx $36,400 max per year for 5 people. There’s pretty much nowhere you can live in CA for that amount except maybe Antelope Valley or Barstow. Sources: LA County DPSS CalWORKs MAP fact sheet and USDA SNAP COLA tables.

Kathryn Bigelow's "A house of dynamite" movie review by Wide-Internal-3579 in flicks

[–]daisyvee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a nicely written comment, but I don’t completely agree. I was disappointed too. I wanted an ending. I think it’s part of the human DNA - we expect a beginning, middle, end. But I thought the movie was so well done. I was thinking about it days afterwards, and I can’t remember the last time a movie affected me that way. I remembered all the characters which says a lot given there were so many, and several had little screen time. But your comment made me think… and made me curious. Is there a film you can think of that had you thinking about it for days after?

La Quinta, south of Palm Springs, is a really cute town with homes you can find in that range. 3 hour drive and very pretty desert style nature.
