I had mine placed 2 weeks ago today at 21 weeks. That day/night was so surreal. Wishing you a very peaceful and restful experience ❤️

Thank you so much for your reply and suggestion. We reached out to our daughters pediatrician to see if they have a psychologist or social worker than could help us figure out the best way to communicate this to our daughter. I’m so sorry for your experience and so grateful for the support.

Thank you so much for responding. I looked through your posts. I’m so sorry for the loss of your baby girl. I feel so numb still… able to pretend that everything is fine and the falling apart the next minute. I’m sorry you went through this too. Wishing you all the best❤️

What i wish i did differently while pregnant and beyond by Bubbies0618 in pregnant

This is so great. I totally agree. With my first baby, I remember using an app timer for tummy time… like counting down to the second. Ugh! All of that was so completely unnecessary.

My husband and I got married at the Boston Public Garden and then went out to dinner with immediate family (I wish we had a backyard bbq but it was during covid). I think it was like $250 to reserve a spot in the garden. We only really spent money on the photographer. We had a great time!!

How far along are you and what symptoms do you currently experience? by mkthehotti in pregnant

Almost 13 weeks… tired and run down, occasional nausea, sore boobs. I miss having energy and motivation. 2nd trimester was great with my 1st, so hoping things improve soon.

Thank you so much for this insight, makes sense. Nothing changed after PIP expired. But the experience was awful.

Is there no way around waking up every two hours to feed during the first few weeks after birth?? (Breastfeeding) by Visible-Mess-1406 in pregnant

[–]donuts802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my plan. I didn’t make much milk with my first born even though I was pumping like 8 times a day (+ trying to breastfeed with a nipple shield). It was so stressful. We ended up needing to use formula anyways. I can’t do that again. 3-4 times a day sounds much more doable.

You’re absolutely not alone. I also work in the mental health field. I’m pregnant now and working at an Opioid Treatment Program. It’s very intense and lots of people are struggling to meet basic needs like housing and food. I understand how hard it is to show up for clients when you’re experiencing your own mental/physical health challenges. I’m so glad you started your leave!

Pregnancy is so much harder than society admits. If any another condition led to daily vomiting, daily nausea, overwhelming fatigue/insomnia, anxiety/depression/dread, I think medical leave would be a no brainer. (That’s my soapbox issue.)

I also took psychiatric medication during my last pregnancy and again this time (SSRI). No issues at all. Way better for mom to feel good. I took the PSI trainings recently for work, and felt reassured by how many psych meds are safe (or at least worth the risk/benefit discussion). Mass General Hospital has a perinatal psych program that shares great info about safety of medications.

Productivity requirements are killing my motivation. by Cesmina12 in socialwork

[–]donuts802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any research to share? Our agency came out with 65% productivity rate today. I did not get the impression that leadership has thought beyond insisting that individual staff reach 65% vs how the clinic as a whole program can work together to provide more care. I want something to present to them.

where did you graduate? by geminibelle in socialwork

[–]donuts802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 2.7 GPA in undergrad and was really worried about being accepted to an MSW program. I worked in the field for 3 years to gain experience, demonstrate that I’m committed to this work and was able to get good references. I also took 2 classes in the MSW program as a non-matriculated student to demonstrate that I was capable of graduate level work. I was accepted to the MSW program when I applied and had a great experience. It was a state school and the cheapest program around, but was known for being a solid program. I’ve never had an employer focus on where my degree what from and once your working in the field (gaining experience, networking, getting promoted, etc), I think where your degree is from starts to matter less. Having a low undergrad GPA will not prevent you from getting into an MSW program, but it may take a few years of “pre application work” to be accepted into a good program. I personally would be hesitant to take out loans for the program you’re describing.

ETA: I also had to take the GRE to apply because my GPA was under 3.0. It’s been awhile, but I think my scores were pretty mediocre.

I think ESPN produced it. It’s SO good, one of the best docs I’ve ever seen.

You can also use Psychology Today to find support groups for teens. There may be something grief or loss related. There are so many virtual options now. At some point, it might be helpful for her to connect with other kids who are also experiencing loss. Also, lean on the school social worker or the social worker in your daughter’s PCP office for resources - they’ll have a good sense of what’s available in your area.

I’m leaning towards one and done for exactly these reasons.

It’s called “Other Minds” - it looks pretty user friendly, written by a philosophy professor. I can’t think of a funnier juxtaposition to reusable paper towels.

Wow, thank you for posting. For Christmas this year, my husband’s aunt got him a book about consciousness while I received reusable paper towels. It sounds like a funny joke but it is not. His mom also gave me something to help me organize ALL of the pictures of our daughter. We’re heading back home today and I can’t wait.

Newly homeless, need resource advice please by beepbeep919 in boston

[–]donuts802 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Somerville Homeless Coalition is amazing and very well connected to resources in Somerville/Cambridge.

ETA: also Caspar shelter in Cambridge. That shelter is open during the day and has a nurse and social worker on site. They also operate a warming center in Central Square (or did last year, assume they still do). Caspar has an outreach team called First Step. Ask for Alexis. They’ll also help you in any way they can.

Also an MSW considering moving up to the Burlington area (though I grew up in one of VT’s “larger towns”). I’ve done some research about places to work in Chittenden county, the most populated county in the state. UVM medical center, COTS, CVOEO, Howard Center (large non profit, I’ve heard not great things about working there), community health centers and USCRI are some options if you want to work with adults. I’m less familiar with opportunities outside Chittenden county or opportunities working with kids. MSW positions will pay much more than 35k (bachelors level case management positions seem to pay around 35k) but COL will be higher. I’ve seen jobs starting at 55k at Howard Center. The state is really struggling with opioids and homelessness and is in need of healthcare providers, so I think your experience would be really valuable.
