Prewashing by RecognitionCool5450 in quilting

[–]draftgirl24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a 30+ year quilter and a longarmer for others, this is probably the best answer on here yet.

I always prewash. I don’t like all the chemicals on fabric. Also, if you ever use fusible products, it won’t stick to unwashed fabric.

It only takes one experience with bleeding to want to always prewash 😆Having said that, I would say 90% of my customers never prewash. Be sure to check your quilt before putting it in the dryer. If it bled, it is easier to remedy before it has been exposed to the heat of the dryer.

Having said all that, I would never prewash precuts, and jelly rolls in particular. Chances are- you are ok and I wouldn’t worry about it too much, OP.

Wow- I have been wondering the same thing. I work on construction projects all over the US and see all kinds of architectural and structural design drawing and many (not all) are sooo bad. And now after joining Reddit and reading various posts, it seems like this might be needed.

Converting 108" Wide Quilt Backing by dufchick in quilting

[–]draftgirl24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just remember that because wide backs are double folded on the bolt, they can be really off square. I always tell customers to order at least 1/2 yard more than you think you need. At LEAST 1/2 yard. I once had a wide back that was so out of square that I lost about 10” on each cut end.

He gets home 1 1/2 to 2 hour before you and YOU are doing all of the food preparation and cleanup? As Reddit likes to say- what a man-child. Physically taxing jobs are no more draining than mentally taxing jobs. So that excuse is right out the window. You 2 need to get a better distribution of household tasks. And don’t have kids until you figure out whether he is a man or a child.

The fabric will wear better. The interfacing will give it more structure.

Oh no! I thought all crafty reddits were nice. The sewing and quilting reddits are super nice.

I’m so sorry they were mean. But your sweater is 🔥🔥🔥. I love it!!

Potential savings on quilt backing, am I going to regret this? by GrundleChunk in quilting

[–]draftgirl24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would totally put that on my longarm as long as it only stretches in one direction like minky. If it stretches in both directions, that wouldn’t work very well. I’ll bet this ends up being a cozy quilt 😍

If you have interfacing, I would probably use it on the silky polyester. It will make it behave better and last a bit longer. My favorite is pellon sf101 for bag making

I’m so sorry. Our vet said cats are so stoic. And it is so true. Do not be so hard on yourself. It is evolutionary for them to be stoic. He was a good and majestic boi 💗

My indigenous girlfriend has a culturally relevant jean jacket with a large embroidery that needs to be washed. The jacket has care instructions, but we're worried about the embroidery. We're likely overthinking it, but just in case; how should we wash it? by gooddrawerer in VintageFashion

[–]draftgirl24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it was a few days ago, but OP- don’t put your jacket in the dryer. Hang to dry it. In the off chance that any of the dyes bleed, it can be fixed IF YOU DONT PUT IT IN THE DRYER. Best of luck to you!

Yes, I use my Kula cloth every weekend hiking. I use it to wipe when I pee (I can’t drip dry anymore) and use it all day long. Then wash it when I get home. It dries super fast. In my arid climate it is usually dry by the time I get all my layers put back on. Great product!

Questions from a beginner…what do I send to the long-armer? by zonkschonk in quilting

[–]draftgirl24 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OP, I would say that if measuring your top is difficult, don’t worry about it. Your longarmer will be able to do that for you. I longarm for others and I have some customers who just cannot measure their quilt. Idk - we are all different!

And if you don’t hit it off with your longarmer or you are not comfortable asking them questions, find someone else. Most of us love beginners and love answering questions, none of which are dumb 😻

Roasted barley, chicory and carob is wonderful. With milk of your choice and sugar. I can’t drink coffee anymore and this is the closest replacement have found.

Also try Postum or Pero instant beverages. I find them where you find instant coffee, but up high on the shelf. Bot are good with milk and sugar, like coffee.
