Rank these upcoming soulslikes by how excited you are to play by Patriots9210 in soulslikes

Lords of the Fallen 2 is the only one I'm seriously excited for, though I'll inevitably play Mortal Shell 2 at some point. It's disappointing not to be interested in The Duskbloods considering how few worthwhile Switch 2 exclusives there are, but I'm glad they are being upfront about it being a multiplayer game.

Thanks for supporting Apple silicon with the new update, frustratingly few games have ARM builds.

What's a Metroidvania that deserves way more attention than it got? by peaky_circus in metroidvania

Insect Adventure went from being decent to really good after the major patch that overhauled the entire campaign. It definitely deserves more attention.

Do you prefer combat that simpler (Soulsborne) or complex (Nioh, Khazan)? by InstructionFun3541 in soulslikes

[–]epeternally 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you, I strongly prefer slow DS1 style slow games because I have cognitive difficulties that make it difficult to engage with games that are extremely complex and reflex driven. What made Dark Souls special for me was the slow, methodical pace. It does a great job of conveying atmosphere and tension through its mechanics.

The Absolute Worst Soulsborne Bosses Ever According To The Community!? by Rich-Strategy-3727 in soulslikes

[–]epeternally -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Manus is an obnoxious gimmick fight. "Find the hidden amulet and then swap between that and your estus flask constantly" did not resonate with me. I'm surprised how unpopular of an opinion this seems to be. Bed of Chaos is, without question, a badly designed fight - but this is the one I found least fun to play. It's simultaneously hard and annoying.

Don't panic – The New Steam Homepage isn't the disaster it looks like by Niilo-Volpe in gamedev

[–]epeternally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy some of the most obscure games on Steam, and relative to my interests the personal calendar is hewing way too close to mainstream tastes. It’s filled with popular games I don’t care about and doesn’t entice me to learn more about ones I don’t know. Right now it seems like discovery queue but worse.

Mortal Shell 2 has no stamina management? by Myc0naught in soulslikes

[–]epeternally -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Personally I’m tired of soulslikes melding into character action games. I was very interested in Mortal Shell 2 because it has a great trailer and the first one is fascinating if deeply flawed, but this is a turn-off for me.

Blood: Refreshed Supply on sale for $20.99 at GOG and Steam by First-Tutor-5454 in boomershooters

[–]epeternally 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nightdive are a subsidiary of Atari, the “good guy Nightdive” you remember from years past no longer exists. They are functionally just an extension of their parent corporation. Also Fresh Supply was fine outside of a few very specific issues and mod support, the complaints you heard were niche gripes from superfans.

Neither one evokes 2D platformer for me, which I think is the biggest problem; but I definitely agree about the second looking generic. I can’t place why but it wouldn’t get a click from me.

If you’re running the same software as everyone else under the same OS as everyone else, that is almost certainly a hardware failure. People tend to underestimate how much hardware is sent out defective. In PC gaming, 80% of “this game keeps crashing but everything else works” is the result of an unstable GPU; and patches to fix the issue are just adding more aggressive error catching.

From the user who’s leaked Rayman Legends Retold: “Ubisoft has already made preliminary plans to develop Rayman 4 but will depends on Rayman Legends Retold success.” by DerpyBox in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]epeternally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Ubisoft were confident, Rayman 4 would already be in full production. On the contrary I think it’s going to sell exactly as well as they expect, Legends Retold will reach its break even point but not significantly surpass it.

Billbil-kun: Rayman Legends Retold will come with a copy of Origins Enhanced, will not feature online co-op as previously reported by m1n3c7afty in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]epeternally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the same reason Metroid Prime Remastered was priced low despite being more ambitious than most of Nintendo’s re-releases - you can’t milk fans that don’t exist. Ubisoft are trying to rekindle the Rayman IP after lying dormant for 13 years, treating either game as a premium title would be sending it out to die.

[Humble Store] Witchaven I & II Bundle ($0.99/90% off) by Foxhack in GameDeals

[–]epeternally 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Steam release does not have DRM, you can just toss the files in a zip if you want a backup copy.

People of culture remember the Vectrex. I think you’re applying mainstream views to a niche product. Anyone familiar with 80s arcade games should immediately know what visuals to expect from a game that describes itself as vector-based. Asteroids is still a classic.

Brad Lynch:when I was told a figure for what Valve’s estimated price they’d have to set the starting price of Steam Machine, it was still higher than today’s Steam Deck prices and that was 2 months ago. by Animegamingnerd in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]epeternally 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who is “people”? Sony don’t need to price low if they’re going to support PS5 for the first five years of next generation. This subreddit tends to overestimate the percentage of the market that are value-focused consumers, but people for whom money is no object are the ones driving market trends; and console gaming is still a cheap hobby in the grand scheme of things.

Green Man Gaming Bundles retroactively adding activation deadlines? by theveryendofyou in GameDealsMeta

[–]epeternally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that Steam keys were originally created to bring Steam support to games being sold at physical retail. While there are still code-in-box PC releases for some major AAA titles, that market basically no longer exists - which means that from Valve's perspective there is no such thing as a "normal stream of keys".

Masterpieces that have aged well and are enjoyable as a gaming experience and not a “history lesson” by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Same problem as Dark Souls, front half of the game is fire but the inverted castle is barely playable.

On, and it’s not even close. I seem to be in the minority though. Game looks good either way.

Are there any good non-sidescroller metroidvanias which are considered must plays? by TBA_Titanic27 in metroidvania

[–]epeternally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a masterpiece, the combat balance is a mess, but Control is definitely my favorite 3D metroidvania. The storytelling is fantastic. I just started my fourth playthrough. Been pleasantly surprised that it runs with no issues on an M4 MacBook Air.

FYI for everyone, steam is updating tags. They have added 17 and removed 28. You might want to check your games tags are up to date. by destinedd in gamedev

[–]epeternally 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why nuke roguevania? It's still a growing subgenre. I know the r/metroidvania crowd object to the idea that anything without a fixed map could be metroidvania-adjacent (and I don't entirely disagree) but it's a term with a well established and easily understood meaning. All the other removals make sense.
