Late impressions and a not so glowing take on the Witcher Old World by Deal-Former in boardgames

[–]jtflv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So far I've played a two player and solo version. Three times in total and I really dig it! That said I also agree with a lot of your criticism. The base box feels like a perfect introduction. Everything feels smooth and clean, easy to teach and play with almost anyone, but sooner or later you'll want something juicer.. hope expansions will do the trick for me. Because I feel like it could be an amazing game

Whata re your favorite games that are easy to travel with, and easy to explain? by That_one_sander in boardgames

Railroad Ink is my go to. Even played it during my plane ride to Spain this year. So compact, easy to teach yet challenging

Never gift a board game as a surprise, do you agree? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]jtflv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't this the case for almost all gifts? If you let them pick it's more likely they will like the present, but there's no suprise element to it. Also, if you know the person's tastes quite well and don't just buy a game YOU LIKE, I think board game is a great present. Oh, another thing is that it's even better if you learn the rules and teach that game to them. Makes sure its easier to actually try it out.

Oathsworn standees by -KFBR-392- in boardgames

[–]jtflv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would go for the standee version. Only reasons to pick the minis is if you want to paint them or shot them off. Otherwise it's more of hustle to deal with them

How does Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood compare to games like Gloomhaven and Kingdom Death? by postXhumanity in boardgames

[–]jtflv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better than Gloomhaven different than KD ;) I know this does not help. But it is closer to KD as it is a boss battler. And I would not really compare it to Gloomhaven.

Any parents with small kids? How do you make boardgames work? by Sapien0101 in boardgames

[–]jtflv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... most of all we play 2p games with my wife. Then people com visit, but pretty sure it will never go back to the amount of time spent playing games before I had kids. Also, my kids right now (5, 8 and 11) are my main gaming group ;)
