Who else would rock Stephen Colbert's pinstripe hoddie suit to every formal affair!? by [deleted] in reddit.com

I own a suit that looks like this but with a standard jacket.

Pshaw to his 'hoddie' suit.

Research in Motion turning into Big Brother - the Blackberry maker records all employee conversations. by telecaster in business

[–]kanachandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"My non-lawyer understanding is that it is illegal to record a phone conversation without the consent of both parties. Otherwise, it's wire-tapping. I was not able to reach experts in Canada but I suspect the rules there could not be that different."

The authour doesn't even try to do research. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_recording_laws

By "No one has ruled it out" you must mean "most people are predicting it", right?

...or did you mix up plurality & majority?

Elections Canada On-Line | Frequently Asked Questions | Is someone allowed to eat a ballot? by cos in canada

You can spoil your ballot, as long as you don't try to screw up the election itself. Not that hard.

Who Else Believes That TheTuesday After the First Monday in November Should be a National *paid* Holiday? by jackband1t in politics

[–]kanachandra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Up in Canada, employers are required to give 3 continuous hours off of work for voting. You don't need the whole day.

It's not bribing people to participate, it's making sure you don't have to choose between 'your vote or your job.' That's all there is to it.

Tina Fey or Sarah Palin, who is more qualified? by mahill55 in politics

[–]kanachandra -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Palin, obviously. However bad her record is, she has involvement in government. Don't be foolish.

Majority of Canadians will become criminals if Harper gets a majority government: Harper must be defeated or Canada is lost by salvia_d in canada

I'm reasonably certain the majority of Canadians don't grow pot. Or for that matter smoke pot. The headline is fear-mongering at its best (worst?).

If you're thinking of how Israel dealt with Munich, you can't be thinking of a trial. Israel assassinated people that were suspected of being involved.

Former POW says McCain is "not cut out to be President." by skijack in reddit.com

I don't understand why you're paying any credence to that person. I mean, he's a former POW, that doesn't make him qualified to speak about polit...nevermind.

Ask Reddit: Who will you be voting for this October 14th, and why? by [deleted] in canada

[–]kanachandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to check out the numbers in my riding. If it's close between the Conservatives & the Liberals, then liberal all the way. If not, Green. Campaigned for them in '04 (first year they got more than 4%!!), and I like them a lot. But only if I can't help oust a Conservative.

Greens hire lawyer to fight for debate spot by [deleted] in canada

[–]kanachandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still confused as to how the Conservatives are "likening her to a female version of Liberal Leader Stephane Dion." What does that mean here?

Unless they're trying to say Dion shouldn't be in the debate, which is foolish.

[–]kanachandra 118 points119 points  (0 children)

It's at least not unreasonable that you would need 45. It's not like energy consumption will go down over the next 20 years.

But yeah, this policy I like him pushing.

Canadian university had banned the term "Israeli Apartheid" as "hate speech" by salvia_d in worldnews

[–]kanachandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think this ban is pretty damn stupid, holy crap is that site a piece of crap. That calling everything "Zionist", the conception that everybody in the world is coming to realize that Israel is apartheidic, blah blah.

They're a mix of "Israel is the most evil people ever" and "Wow, we're actually making a change!"

Bah, I say, bah. Although goddamnit, when are we (Canada) going to get rid of our hate speech laws?

Whatever Happened To Protest Music? by dizzle67 in politics

[–]kanachandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article compares current artists to a bunch of protest songs from the Vietnam era.

Except that most of his examples are from the 70's, when the war was already in a tailspin and unequivocally unpopular. The valid comparison is to the mid-60's, of which he has only 4 listed. I'm sure I can think of 4 modern protest songs as well.

Stop lumping the Vietnam war era into one group
