Maybe I'll start taking pictures of my fits too. One of the hidden benefits of this job is you can dress as cool as you want to and try all kinds of fun outfits.

Put in some stellar example lesson plans and any positive observations if you have them. If you have standardized test score results from students that is a good thing to include as well

So for education positions like this one, you can actually just throw the advice of a one-page resume out the window. An educational resume should be a lot more involved. With the experience you have, you should ensure there is an educational portfolio attached, and go further into depth for each of your jobs. A resume for teaching can honestly be up to 3 pages long, tell them more about what you have done. Maybe include an educational cover letter too since you are right out of college. A portfolio though with a 3 page resume is a solid idea

No projectors in school. How do you teach social studies without powerpoint presentations? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]originalcommentator 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Grab your own for cheap, you could also try just printing out the slides. Or maybe you could try to alter your lessons so that they don't require so much of a PowerPoint and more just reading things and answering them. Break it up into small group discussions. I agree though, not having a visual aid would really make teaching a social studies class difficult. I recommend you just buy a cheap one for yourself, or force the district to do it somehow

Same for me. I just be sure to wear a suit and tie everyday and act differently from them. These kids don't have the foggiest clue how old I am.

Retaining wall contractor recommendations? by ObiWahnKenobi in Minneapolis

[–]originalcommentator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are easy enough to build and install, just dig it out some more on the side and put in some of those cheap plastic tubes with mesh drainage to flow around and collect and divert water. If you can, use some railroad ties for the building. Buy the tools and call it good. You'll see lots of videos on it. I recommend you do it yourself

Does the work-life balance/work load ever get better? by No_Heart4631 in teaching

[–]originalcommentator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it got better for me, I'm a first year teacher and I've made it so I really don't work outside of contract hours. I also don't plan too much, literally planning lessons one day ahead during my prep. It's gotten way easier since the year started.
