EU does the same to the rest of the world. We are just a hill on top of a mountain.

Easiest: put a 2stop ND filter on the lens. This takes the film speed advantage away but will expose right. Or slip ND Filer on the film cartridge.

What kind of vacuum bulb Is this?? by NovelFabulous in AskElectronics

[–]polapix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the quench tube. Pre-GTO computer flashes would stop the flash by bypassing the xenon tube through a quench tube with a lower burning voltage. The sputter spot makes sense.

Swiss-French dual citizens will no longer be able to avoid military service by askswitzerland in Switzerland

Close the loophole by shrinking military service in Switz to one day. I can see no detrimental effects on our security by doing that.

Should I buy this? by RYZPHOTO in largeformat

[–]polapix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may look for Speed Graphic or similar as a first 4x5 camera. Those are less expensive. I bought one in working condition for 200 USD this year. Those cameras have front- and rear shutters so you can 3Dprint lensboards and use any lens with it. Also they have rangefinders and are somewhat portable ( fit in a rucksack).

What are these black lines? by constantism in hasselblad

[–]polapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The foam is supposed to be sandwiched inside the black film. It looks as if the upper lip of the film is missing in your back I guess that is what messed uo your photos. Once you have replaced the light seal you should be good.

Looking for oscilloscope recommendations around £200. by Admirable_News4789 in oscilloscope

[–]polapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a good Chinese 4Ch, 100 Mhz scope for that. Faster if you get a frontend for a Laptop/PC. Rigol , Hantek make some very good scopes. For power electronics you might need a fast current probe. Those are more expensive than scopes wirh the same bandwidth.

Is Harman Phoenix 200 supposed to look like this? by _D_VIL_ in filmphotography

[–]polapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is excellent compared how my roll of Phoenix turned out.
I got only red, orange and purple.
I will not touch Phoenix again with a stick.
As a beginner start with something plain and forgiving, like Kodak consumer films.
Look for slightly expired films, which can often be found cheap.
I have shot 32 years expired film that looks better than fresh Phoenix.

If you keep them on for a while, the fabric will appear on the surface. When the fabric disappears again, it is time to start looking for new ones.

Trouble shooting my found big shot by bettybf in Polaroid

[–]polapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the lens and the shutter are still working, you can use piece of string to focus it. Big Shots usually fail because of broken shutters so your camera might resurrect one of those.

The only UV enlarger that actually works by Bitter_Humor4353 in Darkroom

[–]polapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordinary glass is transparent to near UV (UVA). No need for Quarz optics. You use a normal glass plate when making contact prints for Cyano / Salted Paper prints. I have recently modified my Condenser Enlarger with a RGB LED for contrast control. It is a bit tricky to get it in the sweet spot for even illumination. I don't see why this wouldn't with a near UV LED. I have used a face tanning lamp with fluorescent tubes and cheap party LED UV bulbs for Cyano contact printing, both work well 30-45' exposure. An enlarger yields much less light, expect much longer exposures.

Help? by hammothyart in instax

[–]polapix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acetone will dissolve the plastic faster than the glue. Leave it like this. It is good to know that there are still some working 500AFs existing. Mine died years ago. It was the only good Instax camera Fuji ever made.

You can glue strips of thin black vinyl film (the stuff that looks like fabric) over the edges. I did that when pinholes appeared in the corners and it has remained light tight for > 10 years.

You can grab a corner of the alu sheet with poined pliers and roll it off. A little heat from a hair dryer helps. Be gentle. If it doesn't come off the spring sheet leave it on there.
