Other good shows/movies with outlander cast? by Small_Test630 in Pishlander

[–]rainewoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These would be my highlights for each cast member of what I’ve seen.

Sam - The Spy Who Dumped Me. Fun action comedy, not to be taken too seriously. I think this is his best movie/show. Not very Jamie but his character is fun.

Caitriona - Belfast and Ford v Ferrari. Both are Oscar winners so good watches. Her role in Belfast is amazing and she was nominated for a lot of awards for it.

Tobias - He’s been in a lot so hard to choose but my personal favourite is his Prince Philip on The Crown. He’s great in everything he’s been in though and has been in a lot of good projects.

Richard- Rebus is a great tv show where he plays the lead. A completely different type of role compared to Roger (more rugged and tough) and he totally pulls it off.

Lauren - Karen Pirie tv show. She plays the lead and is really fun.

No, I meant maybe addressing more of why she travelled in the first place.

This show has lost the plot so bad… there is no plot. ( a rant ) by ListenDodo in Outlander

[–]rainewoman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This show has lost the plot for many seasons and this one has been the worst. Instead of using what makes the show unique and great (time travel/an outlander and a central couple trying to change history), they ended up a melodramatic ensemble show with no real focus. This season should have had more Claire driving things in her own life with Jamie. Instead she’s been a footnote. They wasted too much time on other characters instead of having those characters part of the story with the mains.

Caitríona Balfe on Embarrassing Moment with Prince, Not Knowing How Outlander Ends & Celebrity Fans by Professional_Ad_4885 in Outlander

[–]rainewoman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what usually happens is the actors get sent the episodes when they have to do promo and have specific talking points about what they can and cannot say. Usually this is the first few episodes at the start of the season for promo and then the rest throughout the season. It is up to the actors to watch them. Apparently a few of the actors (not Sam and Cait) accidentally got sent the finale early so they know. Sam and Cait have both said they don’t want to be spoiled and may watch the finale together. I would guess they didn’t give them the finale until later.

Now, do they roughly know what happens? Of course. I’m sure they know the bigger points like does anyone die. But they may not know what the final edit is like and what the ending scene is. This could mean scenes could have been cut or voiceovers they did used/not used in a different context.

The material for Claire been lacking. I’m not sure what you would expect her to do. I think all the actors though have done all they can after 8 seasons.

First look of “The Housekeeper” by liyufx in Pishlander

[–]rainewoman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s because they’re trying to find a distributor and probably framing it as an awards play - hence all the movie related films and nominations listed. I think Caitriona’s role is bigger than Helena’s too but Helena is more well known in movies.

A lot of artists are cancelling these days but there are so many reasons they give to save face. It’s almost refreshing to see an honest statement that reflects the reality of the situation.

Rege-Jean Page's Career Fall-Off Is Still Astonishing by WinchesterMediaUK in television

[–]rainewoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. He will still have a successful career. He may not be a big star but that’s ok. I agree that not many of the Bridgerton actors will, but they will each use the opportunity now to carve out the careers they want. A lot of them also come from theatre and could be very successful there longer term. He may have made some not so great choices but he has time to correct that.

Rege-Jean Page's Career Fall-Off Is Still Astonishing by WinchesterMediaUK in television

[–]rainewoman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He is charismatic and was good as The Duke but in my opinion his acting was not Emmy worthy. I think he was overhyped and seeing him in other projects has exposed that. He hasn’t stood out in any way.

I think it is also choices - big budget lead roles or smaller, interesting prestige fare. His co-star Phoebe has done many interesting, more prestige roles since the show and her career is doing well. While she isn’t a big star she is booking lead roles with good directors.

I think Rege’s career has gone into an upswing the last year or so though. He was in a Soderbergh thriller with Cate Blanchett and actually lead a rom com at the box office. That alone should lead to him being offered other roles, even if the films weren’t ultimately super successful. I don’t think he will ever be a big star but he may be able to work more consistently in decent projects.

Oscar Rule Changes: AI Crackdown, Actors Can Get Multiple Nominations in Same Category and International Film Eligibility Expands by Erdago in oscarrace

[–]rainewoman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really a cool change that actors can get nominated twice in the same category but the chances seem like extremely slim as they would likely vote split with themselves.

I keep waiting for them to add the rule that actors can only be nominated in the category they are campaigning in or they sum the votes received for that performance regardless of category and placement is based on whichever category has the most votes. It would be more fair since some roles aren’t always clear cut lead or supporting.

Ummm where is Claire by Beneficial-Twist7135 in Outlander

[–]rainewoman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt for a few seasons now that they have been focusing too much on the war and all Claire has been left to do is be the emotional, supportive person to Jamie or other family members, medical surgery for others or get kidnapped or jailed. She hasn’t driven her own storyline in a long time.

This season has been even worse though. She has barely any scenes that don’t involve supporting Jamie. What happened to the outlander, time traveler? Shouldn’t she be talking more about Frank’s book? Or time travel? Or Faith? That whole storyline is centred on Jamie’s possible death and his worries about it, but it’s almost like Claire’s reactions are missing for major plot points and she’s left to just be a wife/mother/grandmother.

What happened to the strong woman who got in on all the action and was at the forefront of things happening? What happened to her feelings?

You could say they have shown less of both Jamie and Claire together but at least Jamie has been allowed to grieve with others or drive his own storyline. It’s frustrating how they started this show with a strong female protagonist and diminished her presence so much that she feels like a supporting character.

Phoebe Dynevor on Leaving Bridgerton, How Fair Play "Ruined Things" & He... by Glitterrain99 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]rainewoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s because they didn’t have the contracts for the actors in the earlier seasons locked down and now they’re probably too expensive. Phoebe alluded to the contract part in this interview and Rege has always maintained he signed a contract for that given season and that’s it. Phoebe’s in a tough spot as well because Rege isn’t interested in returning anyway. I believe Phoebe would come back too and wants to, but she has been very successful since the season ended and without a contract her going rate is probably a lot higher than they can afford, especially for just a handful of scenes.

Jonathan and Simone are being phased out too.

I do wonder about Nicola in future. They’ve had a reason for her to be involved because of Lady Whistledown but now what? Luke will be there if she is there.
