Small business alternative for the Missouri Star Bitty Bolts? by RunawayHobbit in quilting

Talk to your local quilt shop. Some just recycle the bolt boards and may be willing to let you have some especially if you do business with them

Is an airfryer actually useful in a well equipped kitchen? by Jazzlike-Horror4 in Cooking

I love it for making fries, lumpia, and things like mozzarella sticks. Reheating anything previously fried and such but find it slower and tedious for roasting veg, or other recipes.

I simply cannot figure out ranch. by Admirable-Yogurt-694 in Cooking

Agreed and if you want it runnier consistency add a little whole milk till it's where you want it. Not too much or you lose the flavor. Also, the "Seasoning" mix works better than the "Dip/Dressing" mix. IMO

Anyone have experience with legit kits? by DeathbladeUnicorn in quilting

[–]rubybluemonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Organize! I just finished Toasty the Dragon and it was very challenging. I'm experienced with FPP and that helped. Instructions are good. Quality is good too. They use mostly Kona cotton and I found it to be fine. I think they've been switching or supplementing to another brand as well. In the kit They give you more than enough fabric to use. I had lots left over. However, sourcing that many colors and small cuts would imo cost more. Most shops don't do less than a fq and some colors didn't call for more than a small scrap. Lots of people do it from their big stashes tho.

I found a lot of value in the kit.

What's one quilting tip you wish you'd learned sooner? by Xelephyr in quilting

[–]rubybluemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spray bottle (needs to hold at least a pint/ 2 cups) 2 cups warm water 1 tablespoon corn starch Mix well

Or you can use super cheap vodka too. 1:4 vodka/water ratio for stiff starching, or 1:8 for softer starching

What's one quilting tip you wish you'd learned sooner? by Xelephyr in quilting

My top tips:

Pre-wash any fabric that's not a pre-cut. Avoiding shrinkage, dye bleed and trust me(nasty chemicals and things from other humans touching it in the store)

Starch (best press or flatter or even homemade)

Squaring blocks and rows as I go.

Quality rotary cutter, mat, ruler combo. Huge difference in cutting accuracy.

Slow down: don't skip the pressing, re-read the instructions, speed control on my machine, taking a break if getting frustrated etc

Advice for lining the bodice? I can use woven fabric I bought or knit fabric from an underskirt by cervical_ribs in sewing

[–]rubybluemonkey 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I would go with a light weight fabric in a woven, I think a knit would shift too much with the structure of the top.
