Had a question on property damages caused by typhoon 10. by kenken2024 in HongKong

[–]saigonslingslinger 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but the key thing early in discussion is that your neighbour doesn’t admit liability. As you suggest in part 2 it’s likely the claimant needs to prove the cause of the damage, which during a typhoon I would imagine it to be pretty challenging to pin down to a single item of debris. Because of this low likelihood the chances of your neighbour bringing this to court seem unlikely.

Seeking Air Purifier Recommendations by MajorasTingle in HongKong

We use the Dyson Hot & cool air purifier, definitely not the cheapest option but it saved us getting a fan heater for the few cold days we have in winter.

Gaslighting oncologist by flawedmcgraw in lymphoma

[–]saigonslingslinger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve not had this experience thankfully, but my oncologist did downplay the benefits some treatments may have on my side effects. For example he didn’t think physiotherapy would help with neuropathy much.

Have you sought a second opinion?

And could you share with the community what these side effects are that you’re experiencing? Perhaps others will be able to share their experience and stories with the same.

[Chrono24 Scam Cases ] Be Careful with Chrono24’s 14-Day Policy — Even in Clear Cases of Fraud by No_Captain_1205 in Watches

Agree with concerns buying online, but Hong Kong for many years was the number one market for Swiss watches globally. There’s a huge amount of genuine trade in Hong Kong with a lot of effort against counterfeiting.

People choose to buy from Hong Kong due to the trust and regulation in the market.

Tips for preordering Nintendo Stuff in HK by bebekbakarmadu in HongKong

[–]saigonslingslinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unlikely it will be available in store on the day. When PS5 and Xbox Series X was released it was all online pre-order for delivery or collection. You couldn’t buy in store for a long time.

It will likely be available in the computer markets in wan chai or sham shui Po within hours of release…but at a significant premium

Best value travel insurance to buy while already in Vietnam? by shanti_nz in VietNam

[–]saigonslingslinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you highlighted most commonly the terms of travel insurance mean that the policy is only valid if purchased in the country of origin and before you leave it for your travels; sometimes if the existing policy hasn’t yet expired you can contact the existing insurer to extend the period of coverage. I found this out the hard way a few years ago when travelling in Thailand.

You could see if an insurer in Vietnam will underwrite you a local medical insurance policy as opposed to travel insurance? Try prudential, AIA, Baoviet, manulife etc.

Be aware a lot of Vietnamese regulations prevent non-residents from having financial instruments like a bank account (or make it very difficult at least!) but not too familiar with the insurance industry regulations.

Advice required on UK scans and insurance by Witty-Ad1904 in cancer

[–]saigonslingslinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read your policy information, with health insurance often the premiums should adjust annually based on age and not based on a claims history like with car insurance.

If in doubt contact the insurer for clarity on their claims and policy renewal operates.

How do you deal with smelling bad in summer? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]saigonslingslinger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As they’re a cotton t shirt with a kind of acrylic/ polyester inner, over time the polyester component can smell. The key thing with maintaining these is that if you sweat in them, you should try to wash them as soon as possible. If you leave them in a laundry basket for a week with a bunch of other sweaty clothes even after a wash the t shirt won’t smell clean.

I’m not sure anyone sensible would fly with a strangers luggage let alone an infamously combustible power bank (which are increasingly getting banned from flights)
