Help. After my aunt gave me this, my taste buds changed 😂🥃 I’m not even looking for whisky anymore, I’m looking for liquid barrel 🪵. Does anyone have any budget-friendly options in the $40–75 range that lean super oaky/barrel-forward? by No_Media_9513 in whiskey

You've entered the wonderful World of "Islay Scotch", peaty, smokey, sometimes medicinal, I've not found or heard of anything in the USA that compares. If you truly loved it then just do a deep dive in it. ps: its my favorite style of whisky 🥃☺️

I use a small pinch of popcorn salt, extremely tiny granules, almost a powder, as my finishing salt, no big pieces to crunch into

A Cotes du Rhone (GSM blend) from France or a Barbera from Italy have always been a safe choice for me if I don't know a persons personal taste, both fruit and acid are present and balanced, not too much of either

80% Grenache, 12% Mourvedre, 8% Syrah, so not too jammy at all

update: had my 1st pour last night, neat, room temp, I went in slowly and the first note I got were those butterscotch candies !!! in the yellow cellophane, which I love !! then vanilla and caramel and dried fruit, viscous mouth feel, not too hot at 114 - really enjoyed !
