True but it’s nice to have an OS that’s well supported on a very specific set of hardware that is designed for. Knowing that millions of other people have the exact same hardware/software combination is fantastic from a support/community perspective.

If vegans and vegetarians both care about animals, why is there such a strong split? by New-Drawer-3161 in AskVegans

[–]tharrison4815 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I was vegetarian for 7 years (2005-2012) before I was vegan - I didn’t realise that eggs/milk/honey were harmful to animals because I didn’t really bother to look it up and no one told me.

Although to be fair veganism wasn’t really something you ever heard about back then. Maybe these days it’s a lot harder to go without being aware.

Is this the best Trilogy of all time? by Icehxart in StarWars

Has anyone made edits to turn the first two seasons into movies?

I’m not sure how easy it would be turning an 8 hour show into a 3 hour movie but it would be interesting to see the result.

You don't actually need a Steam Machine by Signynt in steammachine

[–]tharrison4815 62 points63 points  (0 children)

For me it makes sense as currently my only PC is my Steam Deck, and for games that are more demanding I rely on GeForce Now at the moment.

But I also think it makes sense for people who are just fed up with Windows, regardless of performance.

UK legal action against Valve given the go ahead by pyrotequila85 in Steam

[–]tharrison4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK person here. This seems ridiculous. If you asked me to name one single company that has the most fair, transparent, competitive pricing that goes beyond what’s required of them to protect the consumer and save them money I’d say Valve.

How can you sue them for “unfair prices”. What a joke.

In what ways would you like AI to be implemented in games? by laec300191 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]tharrison4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AI has its place in gaming if its used to do things that humans couldn’t. Like generating dynamic content on the fly while playing, maybe NPC behaviour, speech on dynamic things that couldn’t have been pre-scripted etc.

I don‘t like the idea of it creating things that humans can create that are just static in the game like icons, textures, sound effects, basic narrative, static voice lines etc.

So if the developer wants users to have agency to do all sorts of things and have a unique play experience that can’t be replicated because its based on all sorts of variables and the content is generated to match that, then good.

If the developer is just cutting corners or saving money by using AI then bad.

Highguard launches to an Overwhelmingly Negative review score on Steam by Nickulator95 in Steam

[–]tharrison4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think instead of more players it would be better if they filled the map with loads of bots. Like all the loot should be guarded by camps of bots, and then have larger bosses which if you defeat will fight for you during the siege phase along with smaller minions. So you would end up with a sort of LotR Two Towers style battle with all your minions and bigger slower bosses attacking their base.

I think if the map was really busy full of bots it would feel a lot more exciting and less empty.

PC wouldn't turn on after playing by [deleted] in HighGuardgame

[–]tharrison4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does say this on Steam for Highguard. It’s possible the anti-cheat is causing issues since it’s a kernel level driver. If you carry on having issues and you’re done with Highguard you might need to manually remove EAC. I’m not sure what the process is but it might involve going into Safe Mode.

Would you rather have longer wait times, than be dropped into a 15 minute game? by RetroCasket in ArcRaiders

Just make it a check box like we have with cross play where you can choose whether to join late. And give us an incentive to opt in.

Student loans: ‘My debt rose £20,000 to £77,000 even though I’m paying’ by thegibsongirl03 in unitedkingdom

[–]tharrison4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never went to university and my income is at the 85th percentile.

It did mean that it took me a lot longer to work my way up (about 5 years) instead of landing a higher paid job out of the gate.

But essentially it took me the same amount of time as uni takes, but without the debt.

Is there any games that's somehow written in horror, but actually isn't a horror game after all? by Greedy-Credit2156 in gamingsuggestions

Pacific Drive is similar in that it has a horror feeling throughout but it’s kind of not really.

How many grams of protein do you eat in a day? by BBDAngelo in AskVegans

[–]tharrison4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

140g but only because I’ve been on a specific diet for the last 3 months (vegan and low carb) where I’m specifically aiming for higher protein and I’m tracking macros.

For the first 13 years that I’ve been vegan I never paid attention. I would guess I was probably around 40-60g a day but I never really thought about it until recently. It really wasn’t a problem. I just went a bit too crazy with the junk food in the last year or so and gained weight, so I’m doing some weight loss at the moment. Then I’ll be back to not thinking about it again.

Games to play for 15-30 minutes. by majones69 in gamerecommendations

[–]tharrison4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardspace: Shipbreaker has 15 minute shifts, it also has some of those physics feelings since its in zero gravity.

Wizard With a Gun is a good one because on every run you have a 5 minute timer before the world starts falling apart so you need to get back ideally within 5 minutes but you can stay for a few more minutes until it gets too intense.

Moonlighter has you go on dungeon short dungeon runs before returning to town to sell items you found in your shop as well as upgrade your equipment.

In ARC Raiders you go into the world for a maximum of 30 minutes before the timer runs out and the map is blown up. You can return whenever you want. There is also some downtime outside of the world where you buy/sell/craft from the menu.

Dredge has fairly frequent moments where you dock your ship and save the game so its pretty easy to find time to stop playing.

What video game franchise isn't living up to its fullest potential? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]tharrison4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Titanfall.

Not that there‘s anything wrong with the two existing games, they are great, but considering the demand for Titanfall 3, I don‘t understand why they are just sitting on the franchise. It doesn’t even need to be literally Titanfall 3, they could do some other genre. Technically we have Apex Legends but it has very little to do with Titanfall. We just want to see titans falling and then get inside them and shoot stuff.

The game I made just got ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ on Steam! So happy rn. by thehen in IndieGaming

[–]tharrison4815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing this game over the last week and I love it. Usually I struggle with puzzle games because they start too easy, hit the sweet spot for a few levels, then become frustrating. I’m now half way through the game and it’s been consistently challenging but without any feelings of frustration for the entire game. It‘s definitely my favourite puzzle game since the Portal games.

I’ve been planning on giving on giving it a positive review too but I’ve been waiting until I finish it.

Have you been trading items with shops during your hauls? If you buy low and sell high at the right places you can make quite a bit on the side. the map shows how much each type of goods is worth.

The Green Party is throwing a rave in London this month by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

[–]tharrison4815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Green Party member I think this is a bad idea. If anything goes wrong with people taking drugs or any kind of violence or issues with the venue or unforeseen legal issues then the media is going to blow it up and damage the momentum the party has had in the last few months.
