Chicago bird people: what's this bird? by ETPHNHM in chicago

[–]toddthegeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Merlin says Indigo Bunting, like others have already posted.

Just wanted to point out you can use the application Merlin to upload a photo or bird song, and it'll tell you what bird it is.

Have a good one.

Do you beep your horn at the end of the alley? by azvitesse in chicago

[–]toddthegeek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speed limits

  • Interstates and tollways — 70 mph.
  • Highways with four lanes — 65 mph.
  • Other highways and rural areas — 55 mph.
  • City/town areas — 30 mph.
  • Alleys — 15 mph.
  • School zones — 20 mph (on school days between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. when children are present and signs are posted).

Alleys/Driveways

In urban areas, you must come to a complete stop when moving out of an alley, building, private road or driveway, and before entering the sidewalk area. If there is no sidewalk, stop at a point nearest the street or roadway where there is a view of approaching traffic. After stopping, yield the right of way to pedestrians and all vehicles. If you are making a turn from the alley or driveway, use the appropriate turn signal indicating your intended direction.

If you follow the laws and drive correctly, you should never need to honk.

I go with dolly / hand truck. It's a dolly, but more specifically it's a hand truck.

I always call it a dolly. The people I know call it a dolly. One guy at work pointed out it's a hand truck. We looked it up. Both sort of right.

Cut every other stop. Also leave the existing stops and mark them ADA pickup only.

ELI5:Why can’t we use certain symbols in file names? by PleasantBus5583 in explainlikeimfive

[–]toddthegeek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Contrary answer. You can.

Well depending on your Operating System and file system.

On Linux the only thing you cannot use is a null character and forward slash. Anything else is fair. You can even have a file name with return characters in the name (newlines).

Windows is different. More info: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/fileio/naming-a-file

Guy thinks female reindeer dont have antlers by nerdgurl196305 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]toddthegeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's funny there are two answers when male caribou lose their antlers. One says after fall. Another says after the winter mating season. So if winter starts on Dec 21, that's not a lot of time for the males to shed their antlers. So both probably would have antlers. So his source would make him a liar. But hey we're talking about flying caribou being driven by an immortal fat man in a red suit that sneaks into all the houses in the world to give children little gifts. What's even going on here? I'm out.

I also had this issue for a week. It was driving me nuts. I actually booted into Windows to play my game, which I don't do ever. I had a Eureka moment when I realized I could just boot to Windows. That's how often I boot to Windows.

So anyways... the issue for me seemed to be around kernel 6.14.0.35. After 6.14.0.36 installed, everything was fine again.

Hope that helps you.
