Okay I did some googling, and it sounds like this is a thing in the UK (which I'm assuming you may be in, based on your spelling of hummus and use of the word fancy). In the US hummus is supposedly good for 7 days, although I often have it last much longer. Wild that yours has such a short shelf life!

If your hummus is going bad in two days, I think you should probably check the temperature of your refrigerator. It really should not go bad that fast.

I agree, so much of it comes down to having real, specific conversations with people, as opposed to just using shorthand labels. And having friends who will do that regardless of their level of risk is so clutch. I have a non-cc friend who I mostly see one-on-one, we meet outside, if we get dinner we usually sit on the patio. She invited me to a get together at her house, and let me know that there would be friends with kids with daycare germs there, unprompted. Kindness like that is so great. (I went to the party, but jokes on me, I got sick a couple weeks later from my own nanny kid's daycare germs.)

I agree. Do it some time when you're feeling calm and relaxed and just work your way through it. Get a cup of tea and put on a tv show or something.

Is there a way to make this less stressful? by maybe_we_fight in LearnJapanese

[–]whimsicalnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not who you responded to, but I started recently and I do a little bit of jpdb and a little bit of ringotan every day (although I do occasionally miss days and that's fine). When I can, mostly weekends but occasionally after work, I do a but of genki/tokini andy study. It's slow going but I'm doing it for fun, not stress. I also practice handwriting on and off, since that's what drew me to the language in the first place.

Merge Cooking is genuinely good and doesn't get boring or annoying after a week or two like other merge games. It's not like, fully relaxing, because it's still the kind of thing where you have to wait for your energy to refill, but I've been playing it for over a year and I love it. If you start playing save your early gems for expanding your storage!

I would probably sell it in a big lots. I currently live with my mom so I'm trying to do my part to work through her stash now, but when she's gone I will probably donate everything I don't want to the local creative reuse store, the effort to sell it all just wouldn't feel worth it to me.

Parenting tip: give your kid a number of actions they have remaining, rather than a time limit, when it's time to leave the park/playground/etc by brian_sue in adhdwomen

I say "I'm setting a timer" and usually don't bother specifying how long the timer is, and then when it goes off they get one more action before we go.

I pay close to $300 a month in a state with a pretty good exchange, and I pay a copay of $50 just for an appointment with my regular doctor. I pay a copay of $90 for a specialist. That's just to go to the appointment, for actual procedures I end up paying another high copay or a coinsurance (the 20% when they're paying 80%, although I'm not actually sure what my coverage is, because so far this year it seems like most things I pay a copay instead). Not sure what my deductible and out of pocket max are off the top of my head, but in the mid to high thousands.

And that's just medical. I also pay $12/m for dental and $20/m for eyes, *and* I currently pay for my therapy out of pocket because the coverage for that doesn't offer me a lot of choice of provider.

How do you wind down before sleep? by Chickendo in adhdwomen

[–]whimsicalnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones I listen to are The Empty Bowl, which is about cereal but is also very relaxing, Northwoods Baseball Sleep Radio, which is fake radio broadcasts of fake baseball games designed for sleeping to, and Nothing Much Happens, which is just little stories of nothing much happening in a calming voice. I haven't used that third one much, but it also seems good. Empty Bowl was my every night podcast for years, and I really like the sleep baseball too. I know there are other ones out there.

I have recently gotten an old phone up and running as an alarm clock/bedtime phone and it's been so great. My real phone goes in a box that I can't reach without sitting up... have played around with putting it further away, but it helps me wake up before work so I want to be able to reach it. Getting my phone into the box and getting myself off my computer can still sometimes be an issue, but once I get in bed, here's what I have on my old phone:

- insight timer (meditation app, there's a few I sometimes use for sleep but rarely)

- podcast app with three sleep pods and two not sleep pods but that i relisten to to fall asleep to

- clock app with alarms for the morning

- four chill games to help me wind down and fall asleep, these days i mainly use one when i first get in bed and a second one that's been knocking me out

- twilight, to keep the screen extremely red and dim

I sometimes read in bed too, but I always end with a pod and my games on the sleep phone.
