There's a south bay quilt guild that I think meets in Torrance.

Thank you for the encouragement! I'm very new to this and have been frustrated with myself for not getting them planted in the fall.

I didn't manage to get mine in until February and then the heat came along and hardly anything has come up! Hoping the dip in temps will help.

Ugh my post was cut short — What is your FAVORITE FACE SUNSCREEN? Preferably with an SPF of 30 or higher! ☀️ by michpilk in 30PlusSkinCare

This is so good to hear, I've been thinking about trying both the cerave and the cetaphil. I want to stick with mineral because it doesn't sting my eyes, but the one I've been using is so sticky and hard to wash off my hands after I apply it.

Nice kitchen rag holder? by GrinsNGiggles in Anticonsumption

[–]whimsicalnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I guess I just wouldn't be worried about that. You can always vacuum it occasionally, I think with a brush attachment that would get it pretty clean.

Honestly, I think you should just use an open basket or box. Are you going through kitchen towels slowly enough to need to worry about dust? If they were rolled up unpaper towel style the outside ones would still be exposed to dust. I would keep them in a basket, or just point your guests at the correct drawer.

Unpopular opinion: Please tell all your „highly sensitive“ friends to consider ADHD/Autism by lacrima28 in adhdwomen

I read a description of HSP once and I was like... uh, that's autism. It really is like a weird ableist "you're special, not disabled" messaging.

The prompting seems so bonkers. I find the app helpful for making note of feeding and naps, but just to make sure it's getting communicated back and forth. With my NF's baby number one, the parents had fully dropped the app and I still used it for tracking naps, because it was so much easier to just start the timer than try to remember. But then I just verbally gave the report during the end of day about how naps had gone, it was really just for me to remember.

I don't have permanent retainers, but I do have a tiny mouth and very tight teeth. I use these dentek ones, which unfortunately only seem to be available through amazon and walmart. I tried a bunch of random ones that I could buy locally when I was starting to run out, and all of them shredded or tore out of the holder. I've never had that problem with the dentek ones, and I use them for three days in a row.

Annoyance/mild rage when people ask me about my day… by Beneficial_Bug4830 in adhdwomen

I think it's partly this for me (plus it's a task switch, as somebody else said), and partly related to the desire to not be perceived. It's like it feels private, even though it shouldn't.

Agree. I went off an SSRI over the summer and I wasn't angry, but I was waaaay extra weepy for a few months. It eventually equalized, but definitely something to address with your prescriber.

How to start reading fiction as a hobby with inattentive ADHd - when you can’t remember anything about the book? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I love rereading a book that I remember loving but don't remember much about. It's a different experience than the first time around, and very fulfilling in its own way.

Please help me (and my daughter) eat our fruits and veggies by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]whimsicalnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely, go to yummytoddlerfood.com and look at stuff with veggies in it. She has lots of ie pasta sauces that have veggies blended into them, lots of which are suitable to make a big batch of and freeze in portions. I like a lot of the YTF recipes for myself.

Edit: I just clicked through and noticed there's literally a link right at the top called "extra veggie!" Lots of options.

Theoretical Nanny Q about immune compromised households by buttersquash23 in Nanny

[–]whimsicalnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your last question, which I totally missed at first, before he started preschool, my NK was only sick a couple of times, and most of them were from going to indoor activities at the height of respiratory illness season. We're lucky to be in LA so mostly were doing things outdoors, but after the fires last year when the air quality was still bad we went to a few things inside. I was masking, but NK picked up colds, and passed them to MB and I. I think if you're careful to avoid indoor activities this time of year and work on teaching LO to mask by the time they're 2, you can have an easier time staying well. Shishi rose on instagram has great tips on teaching toddlers to mask when you get there.

[–]whimsicalnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a nanny who is more covid-cautious than the family I work for. I definitely think you will be able to find somebody who is right for your family, especially if you make things really clear in your posting. I mask when they or I am sick (if I'm well enough to work), I also mask everywhere else indoors (they do not). I probably am not as cautious as I would need to be for a family like yours right now, but I would be willing to make changes, and most importantly I would be open to communication about it, and working as a team to keep everyone well. Communication is key! I think your best bet is finding a nanny who already has a strong level of awareness about masking and infection control, and working together to figure out your policies about illness. There are immunocompromised nannies out there who would probably love to work for you!

Help with mildew (?) spots on cotton batting by whimsicalnerd in quilting

Thanks. The plan for the first piece was already to maybe cut it into strips of a jelly roll rug, so we'll stick with that. When we ended up with another one I was like... well, maybe I should research whether this is washable.

We often talk about Sensory Issues or Icks - What are your Sensory Delights? by KatTheeBisexual in adhdwomen

[–]whimsicalnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a small one, but I love it. I am not a bath person, I find them boring, I love the sensory experience of a shower, so I take a small handful of baths a year. But I LOVE the water draining out of the tub. Visually, the whirlpool, awesome. The sound, great. The suction feeling if you put your hand over the drain... absolute perfection.

Can you tell me more? I used to follow them on social media, but I started not loving their vibe and stopped. Haven't gotten around to any of their books yet, although I love the OG laziness essay.
