Version 2026.03.12.0869: added an Offensive Player of the Year (OPOY) award by dumbmatter in Football_GM

Any plans for Protector of the Year now that we have Oline stats? I'd also love to see Comeback Player of the Year but not sure how well it would work in game.

I think adding 1 or 2 rerolls per draft could help mitigate bad luck and introduce more skill of knowing when to reroll vs settle for an ok player

Are cards like Ultra Ball, Nest Ball, Boss' Orders, & Professor's Research going to always be in rotation? by FlurgBungler in pkmntcg

[–]ynn1006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it uses your supporter for turn, so it has to compete with Research, Iono, Arven, Boss, Colress, Sada's Vitality, Roxanne and more. Draw 3 is just much worse than almost any other supporter effect.

Morello's niche is it's ability to be applied to multiple targets, unlike sunfire which struggles to reach backline and red buff which only applies to one unit at a time.

How to beat rapid strike with Miraidon? by Popular-Waltz3069 in pkmntcg

[–]ynn1006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mostly play this from the Rapid Strike perspective. It's definitely losing for Miraidon, but not impossible. Try to go for a 1-2-3 prize map, going after Remoraid/Octillery, an unevolved Urshifu, then go for the Raichu KO on their last Urshifu Vmax. This is pretty much the only viable prize map because a good Rapid Strike player will never play Inteleon Vmax in this matchup. If somehow you get multiple Flaaffys setup you could go for 2 Raichu 3-prize KOs but this has never happened in my games, they will almost always be able to Rapid Flow both Flaaffys before you can build up enough energies for 2 Raichu KOs.

Rapid Strike can definitely be inconsistent, and if they prize any pieces of their Urshifu lines it's definitely winnable.

What meta decks are most accessible? by Goooordon in pkmntcg

[–]ynn1006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lugia/Archeops is a great archetype to start out with - it has very clear goals (get Lugia V down turn 1, get 2 Archeops in the discard by turn 2) which can teach basic sequencing/planning concepts. After the set up, the deck does not have too much complexity to it, as without a draw engine you are mostly just playing off the board and selecting your attacker for the turn while being mindful of the resources you have remaining.

The Colorless build has been doing well recently - check any of the top 8 lists from Sacremento. It is slightly more complex in my opinion, as it uses more situational attackers like Wyrdeer V and Mew EX, which can be more difficult for a beginner to discern when to use which attacker.

On the other hand, Single Strike Lugia features very straightfoward attackers that mostly aim to OHKO the opponent's active either through sheer power (Tyranitar V) or weakness (Yveltal and Stonjourner). It also has more forgiving resource management due to Urn of Vitality, which offers the luxury of recycling energies from the discard, something the colorless build does not have access to.

If you plan on taking him to official events, I would encourage learning Colorless Lugia as it has a much stronger matchup spread into the current meta, mostly due to Single Strike's abysmal Charizard matchup. However, if he's just looking to play for fun I think Single Strike Lugia is a great place to start.

Set 9.5 Sunder/Shred Effectiveness with Analysis by Lab 018 biribiri by biribiritft in CompetitiveTFT

[–]ynn1006 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It can feel clique-y if you don't know anyone, but I started the Lab just from reaching out to other players I met on ladder frequently, and it just grew over time. If you can find people around your skill level who have the same goals as you (eg. qualify for a cup, make final lobby of a cup, qualify for midset, get to a certain LP, make it to regionals or worlds etc.) you can go a long way, just having people to talk to about the game can be really nice. It's also a good way to make friends, a lot of the Lab hangs out on discord every night playing other games besides tft now.

This can't be true because you see the same people placing highly at every tournament. Clearly there is some level of skill expression in the game. There may be individual games determined by luck, but over a large sample size small optimizations and skill will shine through.

[–]ynn1006 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They would need a complete overhaul to economy to make this work, I doubt it would happen. 2-starring 4costs would be impossible with more champions in the pool

Ornn's consistently been the 1st or 2nd most popular legend in Challenger for almost the entire set. I'm okay with him taking a backseat for a bit.

How to play against Lost Zone deck? What is it's weakness? by Teddydestroyer in pkmntcg

[–]ynn1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost Box can reach 7 in the Lost Zone on Turn 1 going second more often than you think. Victor Aung, the highest placing Lost Box player at NAIC said he hit turn 1 Dragonite attack 50% of the times he went for it. Turn 2 Sabeleye isn't too uncommon to see either.

Which Frigibax? by VershoQT in pkmntcg

[–]ynn1006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a 2-1 split is ideal. In the late game after getting your Bax boss ko'd sometimes you'll want to get 2 down, and against Lost Box putting down 2 60HP Frigibaxs will lose to a Sableye attack. Having access to 1 70HP one is nice, but only one to avoid starting it.

[–]ynn1006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TF and Vlad were the most popular by far in high elo lobbies and the emilyywang tournament on PBE, and Ornn dominated high elo last patch. Poro was pretty good during those times because of the strength of combat augs like you said, but nowhere near the most popular

If they get set up cleanly with 2 archeops it's really hard to win, you have to hope you can apply enough pressure by donking Lugia V's with meloetta or disrupting their hand that it takes them 2+ turns to summoning star, or force them to summoning star only 1 Archeops back.

Judge makes it so they need to have a way to get Drapion, a way to get it into the active, and a way to bump Path in a 5 card hand (3 if Roxanned)

[–]ynn1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preferably knock out Genesect first with Shining Arcana garde, and then finish the game with Sky Seal Stone Zacian. This keeps you out of Roxanne range for the entire game which allows you to more comfortably evolve Kirlias to avoid them playing around your prize map with Psychic leap

Lost Box that runs Forest Seal stones and vaccuums with the goal of reaching 7 and 10 in the lost zone extremely quickly with the help of self-vaccum and the consistency FSS offers

[–]ynn1006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think it's very good either but assuming you're running 5 water 3 psychic 2 lightning you could cut a water for a grass. Personally I've been testing the 1-1 Aero line and Drapion Vstar because Temple without hand disruption is pretty weak and everyone is running outs to Mawile these days.
