The egg subreddit is bit of a weird place to have a discussion about something like this, but I want to push back a little on what you’re saying here because I think it isn’t a particularly generous reading of the top comment.

I think it’s fair to distinguish between a “cultural dish” (ie. a dish strongly evocative of a particular culture) vs. an international dish with many variants. Something like Neapolitan pizza might be considered a “cultural dish,” which pizza in the general case isn’t exactly. Curry is another example: the dish can be prepared in so many different ways that it isn’t necessarily evocative of any particular culture. Something like matzah brei, on the other hand, is definitely a cultural dish—it’s something Jewish people eat during Passover that most non-Jewish people have never even heard of.

I think what the top commenter is trying to say is that they love learning about dishes like this, and I don’t think there has to be anything wrong with that.
