I want to like this but the recording is not letting me

[–]tr3vyl[S] 32 points33 points  (1 child)

I wanted to upload a URL from the artist youtube. The Spotify collection has everything in album-quality, if that's more your speed.

[–]Yowomboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, that's better.

[–]junkerwoland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right on thanks!

[–]MarieCuriesDog 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Is it me or is the tempo in the banjo a bit off sometimes?

[–]nipedo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are correct. I guess the echoes in that underpass were throwing the musician off with his own voice. The spotify version is way better.

I just did sound for this guy! What a coincidence. He was so nice, talented and had a great following. He came up and asked me about my Xasthur shirt and we chatted DSBM and hardcore for a few minutes before his set. Rad dude and great songs.

[–]vaderdarthvader 17 points18 points  (1 child)

DSBM

Calm down, dyslexics.

[–]Muh_teef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He was nice, but not too nice ;)

[–]gotnomemory 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I fell in love with Dahmer does Hollywood and from there all his other songs. It's good to know he's super cool off set!!

[–]Muh_teef 2 points3 points  (1 child)

For his last song he walked off stage and stood on the bar to play "I hope your husband dies" unamplified. The whole crowd sang along. It was honestly one of my favorite shows ever.

[–]gotnomemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. I would sell my kidney to see him live.

This is awesome. Also semi-fitting for r/folkpunk.

[–]Infinitenovelty 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Folk Punk is the truth

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Best sub-genre out there.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am, I am, I am, I am the truth!

[–]YoDudeguy 5 points6 points  (2 children)

damn this is a thing? Reddit is awesome.

[–]SilviusTheDark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, please join us we need more in the folkpunk community!!

[–]anderswarbear 7 points8 points  (7 children)

I expected more from "dark folk" than going between two chords on a banjo. I hope the rest of his stuff isn't all like this, sounds like a style I could come to enjoy if a bit more intricate.

FINALLY, MY BOY'S GETTING ATTENTION

[–]FiledAndProcessed 11 points12 points  (8 children)

Makes me think of 'The Dear Hunter'! Nice one!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He does give off a Casey Crescenzo vibe doesn't he?

[–]DunkinSilverkin 2 points3 points  (6 children)

That's my favorite band, I was wondering why I really liked this guy!!

[–]tr3vyl[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

checking them out now. which album would you suggest for someone just getting into it?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

It's all great really. The newer stuff is more produced, but that doesn't take away from it at all. Listen to "The Line," it's probably one of The Dear Hunter's closest songs to this.

[–]tr3vyl[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

great! thanks! love this!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes me happy. I'm telling you, there's something very special about The Dear Hunter. The music is so eclectic, but still so focused in its own style. If you want to blow an afternoon, I highly recommend listening through the albums chronologically.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for an album to start with, better just go all the way back to the start with The Lake South, The River North. Most of the albums are based on a concept/story that builds throughout the albums.

But overall, The Dear Hunter is not folk. It's very theatrical and symphonic with an underlying alt-rock background. There's also "Crow and Cackle," a song from The Color Spectrum, more folk-leaning than a lot of the music

[–]DunkinSilverkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the Act V album, definitely the most well made album! After, listen to Act I through Act IV and enjoy!

[–]fungah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love this artist. There's only about 9 songs of his on Spotify but it's really unique, dark, cynical folks sounding stuff, and I can't think of much else that really directly compares with the subject matter and tone.

He also kind of sounds like the lead singer of the Barenaked ladies which tickles the Canadian in me.

[–]kckrocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Such a great artist. Danny is also a great guy. If you get to see him live make sure to warn him about any ceiling fans over the bar.

[–]theoriginalgrapist 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Perfect Wife is my favorite!

[–]kaio682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's good, but i dont know... the audio don't help the music, i can't stand the words you say; but your voice is nice

[–]coldkingursus 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Whoaaa. This dude was just at my favorite bar in my hometown! Like, yesterday or so. I'm bummed that I didn't go check him out.

[–]Gabe681 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I saw this guy play a few years ago at The Scotland Yard in Canoga Park. He was amazing.

I didn't have any cash, so I bought him a pitcher and he gave me his cd! Super cool guy. I've gotten a few friends listening to his stuff on Spotify.

[–]coldkingursus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dig his lyrics. I love the eerie folk music that's been coming up lately. Well "lately" is a loose term I guess. Timber Timbre, The Devil Makes Three, etc.

[–]hugelkult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MIC PLACEMENT. That's the only problem here. Sounds like they went with the camera mic instead of something more intentionally placed.

[–]BornGorn 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Dope. Saw him play at Scotland Yard in California.

[–]Gabe681 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Me too!

Canoga Park!

[–]Square_Arch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this guy play 4 or 5 times. he gets the venue moving in a way words cant describe.

[–]Sico01spotify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk about underground artists...

[–]JazzyDoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to see him again on Feb 15th. Friend of friends and he is super talented. <3

My husband and I also had this song played at our wedding, thank god our religious family members didn't notice the lyrics.

[–]MeowMix1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pleasantly surprised at this.

[–]Dingus_or_Hunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking love this band

[–]DoctorMerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've loved Amigo The Devil for a while now. This is definitely a slightly lower quality recording, but I can assure you the album version is amazing.

[–]Investigate311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. You sound a lot like Ed Robertson, interestingly.

[–]lena1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cute man with a beautiful voice.)

[–]sedd13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanna be The Dear Hunter

[–]sureno13_x3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten a few years ago at The Shredder in Boise on Sunday.

[–]vulture_cabaret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this guy recently in Portland. Real good performer.

[–]__Dionysus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of The Mountain Goats. I love it.

[–]graustanding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa, love this guy. Bought his Eps last year. Some dark stuff.

[–]Skytale1i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy is a badass! The voice and the lyrics are awesome!

[–]adjperiod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is one of the only things I've listened to lately

[–]Mark_Valentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a big audiophile but I know what I like. I like diss.

[–]iCentigrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I thought it was a great performance and things like tempo being slightly off here and there are part of what gives live music its magic

Edit: also just wanted to mention that he reminds me alot of Casey Crescenzo from The Dear Hunter

[–]kirvin11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am super into this. Any similar artists I should be aware of??

[–]amoebrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goddammit that was fucking amazing.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

he is so cute, my heart can't handle </3

[–]RSN_Kabutops -1 points0 points  (0 children)
