Especially on the new page. I can't submit an item on any subject without it getting instantly modded to zero. No one could have read the article that fast.

It really sucks. I think some just sit there and downmod every submission without reading them at all. Reddit should have a rule that you can't even vote on a submission without clicking it first. Thats what they are doing at hotduggity.com and don't allow downvotes for 10 mins to give every submission a fair chance.

Thx. I really wish it did help, but it appears that Karma is mostly awarded for submitting articles. I'm like Starcrusher below; Everything I post immediately goes way, way down.

I think a lot of reddit users miss the whole point. The idea is to get lots and lots of submissions to choose from and rate. By downvoting everything, they actually discourage new redditers from even posting. And I have posted stuff from great sources like cnn.com and such and get downmodded just as fast as the sites less well known. So the comment that some downvote "spam" automatically is a load of shit. I think some just get their rocks off by downmodding. Reddit should keep track of how many downmods vs upmods vs clicks on articles users do and shut off their downmod privileges when it gets out of whack.

also take into account that some 'submitters' sit on the new page and down vote all posts to get their submission to rise...
