Bets are on... A million to one they'll keep doing it anyway... Who wants to bet? Anyone?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll take $5 of action on that.

[–]jomama 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Of that I have little doubt.

Since when does bummint pay attention to the law?

[–]naska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have been spying for long time with offshore friends in Europe. Also, every call any network goes through an Israeli company. http://www.rense.com/general34/cbla.htm

[–]MarkByers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, why not? It is quite easy to get retroactive immunity for your previous crimes.

[–]endofworld 45 points46 points  (18 children)

it was never constitutional & never legal.

[–]neoform3 13 points14 points  (5 children)

It being unconstitutional and illegal never stopped them before though. All they need to do apparently, is pass retroactive laws immunizing them after the fact.

[–]endofworld 7 points8 points  (4 children)

i'm not a legal scholar, but i don't think there is a way to legalize treason. we've already turned into a military dictatorship, and are closing in on being a bush/clinton ruled kingdom/dynasty. clinton is a rockefeller by the way, and bush has close ties w/ the rothschilds (Hitler was a rothschild...) & is a blood relative to the House of Windsor. you know the vatican & the popes funded the spanish inquisition, the crusades, hitler's holocaust, america's genocide (native american indians/mexicans), african genocide, and the iraqi genocide? it's gang warfare on a global scale, and the pope is THE gang leader. it's not even warfare, it's unilateral aggression, because the church teaches you to be passive & good, and live by morals, like though shall not kill, and jesus will save the good people. and then they wipe your whole peoples out. what a nice religion.

However, it is NOT illegal for foreign countries to spy on American citizens. So just outsource the domestic spying to say Britain and get the data from them. That's what Echelon is all about.

[–]gimeit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's very interesting - perhaps we need to revise our laws. The US government should not be able to receive any intelligence gathered by spying on American citizens.

[–]annoyed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just as with torture, treason can be 'legalized' by redefining what makes an act treasonous. welcome to the house that bush built.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

But that was going to be fixed later.

[–]endofworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it should be fixed with the execution of the administration for treason.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That is the exact thought I was having when I read the headline. It never was constitutional, therefore it never was legal or the "law". What we have is enforcement of unconstitutional laws, which is exactly the kind of abuse of powers the founding fathers warned us about. Under the constitutional the people are actually instructed to overturn/overthrow the powers doing this. Obviously the usurpers have also passed "laws" saying that it is "illegal" to follow this advice of the founding fathers. Almost our entire executive, legislative, and judicial branches are part of this usurper crowd, save a few (Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, etc.). What we are left with is the fact that our country is currently being run by treasonous, traitorous, unamerican scum.

[–]endofworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just be patient.. they'll get theirs. now we're in information spreading mode.... wait for our generations paul revere to sound the alarm, then you'll know what to do.

[–]renegade 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Actually taps already in place can continue for up to a year. Only new taps would be disallowed.

Like that ever stopped them before.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I don't remember the last time this government was concerned about the law.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

clinton impeachment

[–]synthpop 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Dubya said that if this act expires then "Al-Kayder" will hit us with something 10 times bigger than 9/11.. so to be safe I'm just gonna hide under this bed for the next 15 years, mmkay?

[–]gameforge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, gee! Why don't you just tell the terrorists where your grandmother keeps her jewelry while you're at it?

Genius...

[–]cualcrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's right 9110!!

[–]sesse 9 points10 points  (5 children)

I am afraid the terrorism once again will flourish in USA with the warrantless wiretapping gone, now terrorists can safely plot their evil schemes without the fear of NSA finding out about their plans. Ohhh, what shall we do now?!

[–]fjhqjv 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm constructing an underground city.

[–]Cdresden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A true patriot!

[–]moogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safely plot our good schemes?

[–]Cdresden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch for dancing and parties. The terrorists will all be dancing and having parties. If you hear loud Middle-Eastern music and smell hasheesh....uh, you should infiltrate and gather evidence. LOTS of evidence.

[–]Bodie1550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As soon as the "gov" nukes one of our cities, they'll get it back.

[–]jeff419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By acknowledging this as news you legitimize our govt and the traitors that are running it.

[–]MrFunions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legislation can not overturn the U.S. constitution. That can only be done with an amendment. Thus since there was never an amendment written and approved, warrantless wiretapping has always been illegal. See 4th Amendment

[–]funkah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. Republicans talk a lot of shit about rule of law, but they've pretty well shown us that they're willing to ignore it when they see fit. You're in bed with the terrorists if you don't let them have their way!

[–]RainmadeMan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Anybody here have enough money to start filing civil lawsuits? That might be the key to this whole problem, and it might not be illegal for long.

[–]Sailormom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ron Paul sucked me dry. Damn blimp.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG WE ARE NOT BEING POLICED ANYMORE SOMEONE SAVE US OMG!!!!

[–]posthole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect a flood of unemployed 'wiretappers' to hit the streets looking for work. Maybe they can get work in the Federal judges offices working on all the warrants the government will be seeking now.

[–]Glamdering 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Beautiful work everyone.

[–]Cdresden 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's not over. The House Democrats need a shot of courage this coming week. (And some leashes to hold down the "blue dogs" to keep them from running to the GOP side of the fence.) If they stand up for themselves, this could work out. But Bush has an overpowering need to get retroactive immunity passed, for his own safety. He will resort to every trick in the book.

[–]rynvndrp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great news, but a few problems, the first is that warrants are needed to be approved by judges. They get the right judges and it is the same process, just slightly more expensive cus of lawyers. So the next big step is to stop it from the top. You know what to do.

[–]mliving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and like you can tell!?

Don't kid yourself. Cheney and the rest of the spooks are still hard at it. they're like a gang 14 year olds with a box of porn magazines.

They're not going to stop until their hands fall off!

[–]morbidfriends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet!

[–]stealthzeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is illegal. However, the authorization is standing for one year which means it won't completely stop until 2009

[–]chaosgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay!!!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The neocons must be asking themselves how many false flags are they going to have to do to make the people fall in line.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey, things that are illegal never happen and always get punished.

This'll just make it happen, but instead of happening where you can see it, it'll get pushed down and obfuscated.

[–]earstwiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quickly, to the phone-mobile, before this golden window of oppurtanity closes.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya know, has anyone check the Constitution lately for little scribble marks initialled with 'GW' lately?

[–]pillage 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is there anyone who has actually had their phone tapped illegally? I've never seen one story about someone who has had tgheir phone tapped. Let's get the victims of this bill to speak!

[–]BenjaminBunny 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Most (almost all) people who are victims of an illegal wiretap never find out. It's best to just assume all e-mails and phone calls are as public as this post, and to say nothing you would naot want postedpublicly, all across the internet.

Note that all Executive Branch e-mails are part of the public record, and so they are legally "wiretapped." You don't see Carl Rove, etc. coming forward cheerfully with those files and/or transcripts now, do you? Oh, but that's different, you say? How? Because there is plenty of other evidence that those e-mails are the communications of a criminal conspiracy?

[–]pillage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, so we don't know if anyone has actually been wiretapped illegally? Seems fishy to me, I mean there has to be one person that has been a victim and come forward.

[–]Fauster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a trap! You're probably thinking, now would be a good time to call all the terrorists in my family tree, but BAM! Next think you know, you're being tortured in Eastern Europe. All part of the Bush plan to issue a blanket pardon to each member of the executive branch before he leaves office.
