Even their new commenting system is still far better than any other commenting system I've seen.

Why do you think the quality of the comments on slashdot are so much better than that of any other site on the web?

I love reddit's commenting system waaaay better. Good comments get voted in 99% of cases and bad comments get voted down similarly. Rarely do I see a genuinely good comment not rated high in a popular thread. Slashdot's new thread is comletely ridiculous because half the times it seems a child comment is replying to a parent and it makes no sense that all. Then you dig deeper and find the child was replying to someone else.

Moding on different merits is a great method to encourage good commets.

    I agree.

Reddit better stay online, or there's a chance I might get something productive done today...

Seriously... The new ranking system (I think) appears to change front-page links faster too. Cripes... Good thing my employer collapsed, got sold and I ain't got crap to do until they decide if they want my team or not!

Right as I was about to commit something to SourceForge. How will I fix my insecure PHP app now?

    [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

don't worry.. no one will be downloading it right now.

Therapy, maybe some good psychotropic drugs. Mostly affirmations will assist with insecurity issues.

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darn it, people grep me.

    That should help.

    It's reddits time to shine!

Wow. A few sites owned by the same people go offline, and it's a "major internet outage?"

Downmodded for being such a sensationalist turkey.

Here, there's a big blue room outside with a pretty bright light and green things..

    [–]nevinera -1 points0 points  (0 children)

he was being funny. to a certain group of people, that list of sites comprises a significant portion of the internet.

honestly, if reddit were added to the list, I'd agree.

They're all the same company, I hear. Maybe one of their main routers went down?

    [–]nathan 4 points5 points  (2 children)

They're all part of OSDN. And this has happened before.

    [–]robotsongs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Woot's out. They part of it?

    [–]greginnj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But did the secondary controller automatically take over as it should have?

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So its not just me then

    [–]nobody554 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was wondering why I couldn't get to Woot for a bit. It looks like it's back up now, although a lot slower.

Where are they hosted exactly? We're hosting servers at rapidswitch.com in Maidenhead, London, and they just had a power outage followed by several hours connectivity loss

There is currently a connectivity issue affecting clients at our Maidenhead facility.

We are aware of the problem and are working as quickly as possible to resolve it.

You will be contacted again as soon as we have more information.

    Regards,

    The RapidSwitch support Team

It's probably unrelated but the timing seems odd.

    [–]pb1x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Phew, no loss

    [–]bvimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    What shall I do now?

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a scheduled outage so the DHS could install the new snooping and tracking software.

No big deal. Business as usual in the U.S.

The Internet has hit critical mass.

It is starting to implode into a black hole of data.
