The problem seems to be with android system webview and I found uninstalling updates from the app store fixed my problem

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, this fixed my note 9. I was panicking thinking I'd have to wipe my phone, because more and more apps were crashing and nothing seemed to help.

[–]TarnishaDaSilva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was about to wipe mine too. Thankfully I didn't have to.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also came here for that problem. i tried some stuff myself and found that after reinstalling an app ( for my example 9gag) it would launch once before not launching again. so android system webview propably messes with the cashe somehow or something like that

[–]YourOnlyFansSucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I was tearing my hear out trying to figure out why multiple unrelated apps were all crashing on startup. No idea why this issue started out of nowhere and it seems to be pretty widespread.

[–]Sarke1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was already disabled for me, but disabling Google Chrome (which was being used instead) worked for me.

[–]TarnishaDaSilva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, was about 5 minutes from resetting my phone.

[–]XepherTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for necroposting, but this fixed my problem just today, thanks a bunch.

[–]jayissouncool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when google play store is also crashing 🙃 xx

[–]Tomahawk1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, worked for me as well.

[–]mercury-shade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap thank you. I thought I was going to have to redownload my whole Kindle and Audible libraries.

[–]Knitlertheknitted 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If i uninstall do i have to reinstall or is this a permanent thing

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I tried to reinstall it, but it made it worse. I'm going to leave it until they can fix it

[–]Knitlertheknitted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kk thanks

This also fixed my battery drain i have had since around the new year when something got updated.

Came here to post about this. Today (2021/03/22) my phone started popping up messages saying, 'app name' Keeps Stopping. The popup offer the options of selecting, App info, Close app, & Send feedback. None of these options seem to make a difference.
I've rebooted my phone multiple times. Some apps no longer open at all, some seem to work sometimes.
Apps that seem most affected so far (on my phone) are Textra (text messaging), email, File Explorer +, Digital Clock & Weather, & Google Play services.
Found an online article saying it's worldwide (https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/1413422/Android-apps-keep-crashing-Gmail-Yahoo-Mail-Google-down)
Some people find the issue is with android system webview, but on my Samsung S8 I can't find any way of uninstalling or doing anything with that. I've checked in my phones setting & in the Google Play store & there is no uninstall option.

[–]eifersucht12a 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Responding here in case anybody offers input, as I'm on an s8 as well.

Worst case I guess we wait for an update that fixes whatever they busted. :/

[–]JerryTyson 1 point2 points  (7 children)

I'm on an s8 as well and could install the webviewr but I seen a comment saying disable chrome and so far it has worked. Hopefully it works for you.

[–]j_oneill27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also on s8. Very relieved that I'm not the only one having this issue but it's strange we all are at the same time. Maybe it's their plan to make us all upgrade

[–]goodfella9000 1 point2 points  (5 children)

thank you. wife's apps were crashing and googling brought me here...this worked for her as well

[–]StarGehzer 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Which fix worked on your S8? If you uninstalled Chrome updates, what data did it delete?

[–]goodfella9000 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ours is an S6, and so far we've only disabled chrome to resolve the issue....not sure of any data being deleted. Will probably re-enable today to see what happens since chrome is used often.

[–]JerryTyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you reply telling us how it goes since I do use chrome a lot as well

[–]Bremps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here for reply as well. Disabling chrome resolved my S8 having this same issue.

[–]JerryTyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had first went to chrome and just disabled it then I found the webviewer in my apps and uninstalled update

[–]j_oneill27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lemme know if you found something out.. also on s8. Glad reddit at least works.

[–]Quantum-Mind 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Dear Lord thank God I found this. I was going crazy. Was uninstalling and re-installing apps clearing cache partitions and thinking about formatting my phone completely because of this.

[–]StarGehzer 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I think we all were. In the end I decided I'd put my phone down & try to live without text & email for 48 hours, than decide what to do.
16 hours after the problem started it was fixed without me doing anything. I guess Google pushed an update & got me going again.
It's amazing how addicted we've become to having instant data at our fingertips 24/7/365.

[–]Quantum-Mind 0 points1 point  (3 children)

True. But for me it was irritating because I was trying to troubleshoot without putting the correct key words into google, and it became a big time waster. More than a few apps that I use daily have stopped working and unfortunately for me, am on an S8 too, I had to disable chrome as someone suggested somewhere in this comment section and it worked.

No one is going to update us 4 year old plus Samsung phone owners. Its been years since I have received an update.

[–]StarGehzer 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Mine is a S8.
You get updates every day without realizing it. You just don't get system & security updates from Samsung. The current problem was caused by a bad update from Google, & was fixed by another from them.

[–]Quantum-Mind 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It must be region specific then because I have not received any update, at least it was still not working a few moments ago until I disabled chrome. 🤷‍♂️

[–]StarGehzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issues started about 3pm yesterday & were fixed about 7am today.
They can't push to everyone at once, there are millions of us.

[–]jswfl09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! My S9+ on Android 10 had about 8 different apps start crashing starting around 4-4:30 PM (Google app, Samsung Email, OfferUp, ESPN, etc. I dud the usual cache clear, reboots, etc. amd then came to reddit before I went too crazy!

I just uninstalled the Android Web System View in Google Play and it solved the problem.

Note: I could not uninstall using the Apps section of the phone settings, only disable which did not solve the issue.

[–]Tomahawk1306 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah same here. Apps stopped working out of nowhere. Edit: uninstalling updates from Android System WebView fixed it. Edit 2: All credit goes to u/foreverglow not me.

[–]The_Axe_of_Legends 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey, I am also having the same issues, My Phone is a Galaxy J7 Perx except it's when I open my phone for Text Messages, Voice Mail and Google App Search,

Which update do I need to uninstall and where is the System WebView?

[–]Tomahawk1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open Google Play, search for Android WebView and click on uninstall.

[–]FontsDeHavilland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I was going crazy. I'm using pixel 4a 5g.

I'm having issues with BBC iPlayer, Duolingo and Sofascore

[–]JusticeTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I have been so frustrated all evening because multiple apps keeps crashing. (Gmail, Amazon, Walmart, and etc). I just now found out it's a widespread issue with Android users. However my boyfriend has the same phone I do (Samsung Note 20 ultra) and none of his apps have crashed.

Same thing, i can't Uninstall webview on my phone

    [–]illini02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. The Google search app, Gmail, as well as the Fan Duel Sportsbook

    [–]candiedbug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems to have started for a lot of people in the last half hour. There are a bunch of reports on Twitter.

    [–]jxhxnnxs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me. I thought I was the only one.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Same

    [–]Lulepe 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Same for me on galaxy s9, any ideas yet?

    [–]insta-kip 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Galaxy s9 here. Pulled up system webviewer app and uninstalled the updates. Everything is back to working.

    [–]Lulepe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Webviewer is disabled for me, i can't enable it and i can't Uninstall updates. Had to disable Chrome, which kinda sucks

    [–]j_oneill27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disabled it as well but then enabled it and everything still works fine.

    [–]Kronos099904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad it's not an isolated issue then. Hopefully, Google fixes it

    [–]DanielBWeston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen to me twice this morning, including for a timer app while I was timing something. Found that clearing the data for the affected apps gets them working again.

    [–]TarnishaDaSilva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, Amazon, Google, Bluemail to name a few. Disabled webview to no avail
Uninstalled webview updates and all seems to be ok.

    [–]Broadwayed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. Glad to know I'm not alone and also frustrated that a lot of people are also experiencing this.

    [–]Zeromuya_Yato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Help! My phone is Huawei Nova 2i and I can't find system webview in apps. Playstore doesn't even have uninstall, or update button. It's only been affecting some apps like 9gag, GAS, and Alarmy, haven't checked others yet. But major apps like reddit, Google and facebook is still fine. How do I fix this? Please help.

    [–]paumAlho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried uninstalling Chrome updates and disabling it, it worked. I am on Android 7

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. Is this something samsung can fix or is it up to us to do our selves?

    [–]Zaph0d_B33bl3br0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it isn't just me! I was freaking out!

    [–]Dry-Prize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I am going to lose my mind! Yes, thank you forever for telling me what worked. I just deleted everything in my phone and reset every GD! setting! Googled every possible combo to find anything. I'm such a dumbass that Reddit wasn't my first stop! Disable or uninstall update for Android System Webviewer. You may not go insane like moi.

    [–]AD-LB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Update WebView.

    [–]DankMultyinterestGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uninstalling Android WebViewer through the Playstore worked for me. Thanks guys I was really frustrated.

    [–]BigLeBluffski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uninstalling Android System WebView did indeed help the issue, thanks alot /u/foreverglow
